Jeyme

It had been a few days since Jeyme had spent the night with D'hol, and
since then Weyr duties had kept them apart for the majority of the
time. Even though she was a Senior Weyrling now, she still had duties
that she had to attend to every day, and as a Wingleader, D'hol had
his own list of things to accomplish. Still, every night since the one
she had spent with D'hol, Jeyme would often lie awake in her own,
narrow bed, thinking of how nice it had been to fall asleep next to
the man. And waking to him the next morning.... A grin covered Jeyme's
face just thinking about it.

Having been out flying on some errands, Jeyme's cheeks were still
flushed from the wind, her hair tousled and her eyes bright as she
knocked on the open door of D'hol's office and stepped inside,
"Wingleader?"

D'hol was staring out of a roughly hewn window, his expression
distant. He didn't look behind him. "Come in."

Jeyme studied the set of the man's shoulders for a moment before
stepping in and closing the door behind her. The smile she had been
wearing faded a bit as she tried to puzzle out if D'hol was being
"normal" or not, "D'hol?"

"Hmm?" He blinked then turned to the woman at his door. "Ah. Jeyme."
He inclined his head and cleared his throat, moving away from the
window to sit at the edge of his desk. "Good evening."

Well, he wasn't kicking her out of his office, that was a good sign at
least. Jeyme took a seat in one of the chairs in front of D'hol's
desk, one leg casually slung over the other as she regarded him with
concern, "Everything okay?"

He sat on the edge of his desk. "It's simply been a long day."
He looked at her and her windblown hair. "Looks like we both have had one."

Jeyme chuckled as she ran her fingers through her short hair, "Let's
just say that I am definitely not regretting the decision to cut my
hair." She could not imagine what a mess of tangles the elbow-length
hair would have been. With her left foot she stretched out her leg and
tapped his foot, "You up for company tonight?" She asked.

Tilting his head and arching his brow, D'hol's lifting of his lips was
not as open as she had seen it before. "Nor am I. It slides through
the hands much easier." He glanced down at her foot and for a moment,
his eyes warmed in memory. "Your company? I believe I could manage."

She smiled, "Want to grab some food first? I can assure you that you
will need the nourishment." Jeyme winked teasingly.

D'hol pursed his lips in thought and drummed his fingers over his
forearms, then nodded, rising. "I'm not the only one." He barely
smiled, but gestured her to leave the office in front of him.

At least they could eat together now without the wrath of the
Weyrleaders falling on them, Jeyme thought as they walked to the
Dining Cavern. That did bring the greenrider's thoughts back to her
meeting with Cyradis however. The Weyrwoman had been so opposed to her
sleeping with D'hol. Jeyme would have described Cyradis's behavior as
jealous even.

Once they were seated with their food in a corner of the Dining Hall,
Jeyme decided to ask a question that had been on her mind for a while,
"You know, there are a lot of rumors going around that there is bad
blood between you and the Weyrwoman. Is that true?"

D'hol's lip twitched slightly, but it was more a frown than a smile,
coupled by a tightening of his jaw. He took a breath, set down his
fork and turned to look at Jeyme. Considering the past few days, the
question stung more than it regularly would have. His voice was tight.
"Why do you ask?"

Jeyme lifted her shoulders while chewing down a bite of tubers, "Just
curious. Cyradis was very touchy when I talked to her about being with
you. To be downright honest she was in a snit about it and was trying
to force R'enh or Sh'dori on me." She looked up at him, "Combine that
with the way you act whenever she is mentioned, and I am left to
believe that the rumors must be true."

One brow arched high. He hadn't known that Cyradis had actively tried
to place Jeyme with someone else, but thinking about it, it wasn't
that surprising. That Jeyme hadn't capitulated was also impressive.
Cyradis, when in one of her moods, could be very...persuasive. He
stayed silent for a moment, took a deep breath and spoke coolly. "We
do have a history, yes."

"I take it that it wasn't a good one?" Jeyme asked pinching a piece of
her roll a part to pop it into her mouth. There were a million things
she would have liked to asked, but she was afraid of ruining her night
with D'hol if she did.

"Use your instincts." The response was dry. "What do you think?"
Evasive, but clear. He didn't want to give details.

"I say her loss." Jeyme winked at the man, trying to keep the mood
light. After all, she had fun things in mind for them that evening.

One brow quirked higher and his lip finally lifted. "I don't think she
would agree." He sighed and took a drink of klah. "Several years ago,
we were lovers. She had a weyrmate." He looked at her, his face cool.
"You can imagine how it ended."

Cyradis had been having an affair! How could she have done that to her
weyrmate? How could she have done that to D'hol? If his reactions were
any indication, Cyradis had hurt him by choosing her weyrmate. **Calm
down, Jeyme, this isn't the Hold. Maybe she had an open relationship with
her weyrmate. They _are_ more liberal about those things here.**

"I am sorry, D'hol." Being second best was never a good feeling. She
wondered of history was going to repeat itself. Was Cyradis completely
faithful to K'deren?

He shrugged. "Don't be. I didn't tell you for your pity. I learned
from it." His face was implacably calm. "So, now you know. But I do
not want to discuss it more." Inside, there was a surge of well hidden
fury directed not at Jeyme, but for the subject of their conversation.
"And I would appreciate it if you kept it to yourself."

"Give me some credit," she said, her voice soft, "I wouldn't run
around telling your business." Jeyme promised.

He relaxed marginally and inclined his head. "Thank you." He glanced
at her food and changed the subject. "Lets think of something more
pleasant, hm?" His arm casually lifted to lay over the back of her
chair. It wasn't overt, but to those who might have been watching, the
meaning was clear. The young woman was his.

Jeyme settled comfortably closer to the man, "Yes more pleasant," a
grin tugged at her lips. "I was thinking tonight we would try that
rough and wild that you mentioned."

D'hol's brow arched upwards and his eyes glinted as he bent to speak
softly. "Then you may want seconds, Jeyme. You'll burn them off."

With a wink, Jeyme took a generous bite of her food.
