A Meeting of Minds

Writers: Ames, Chelle, Jelena
Date Posted: 26th July 2013

Characters: Famell, Naton, Relik
Description: Famell introduces Relik to Naton and ideas blossom.
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 2, day 27 of Turn 7

"So, Journeyman Naton should be back this way. If you'll follow me, Master
Relik," Famell told the Seacrafter as they journeyed down the narrow
hallway to one of the main workrooms. "I hope you will find his light
project to your liking."

Famell pushed open the door to the room Naton used. He had already let the
journeyman know they would be stopping in this morning. He hoped all would
go well and Relik would take an interest in the lights the way he had with
the wetsuits. While it would take time to craft new wetsuits for Relik's
seacrafters, the business would be good for the Dolphin Hall.

"Naton?" Famell called out as they entered.

Glancing around the workroom, Relik found himself curious. Dolphincrafters
were an interesting lot, though he didn't particularly care for the amount
of females running around the Hall with knots. Not his business, though.

"Yes, sir?" Naton called back as he stepped back out of his closet, turning
around to see the unfamiliar Seacrafter. He quickly spotted the Master's
knots and stepped forward with his hand outstretched. "You must be Master
Relik, welcome to my humble office, do come in!"

"Well met Journeyman Naton, is it? I've heard good things about your new
lanterns and I admit, I'd like to see if they might be useful for my folk."
Of course Relik didn't hate technology altogether-not if it would save
lives.

"Yes, I'm he," Naton smiled, his eyes dancing at the mention of his dolphin
lights. "It will be my pleasure to tell you all about them. If you want I
can arrange a demonstration as well, but that would only be useful after
the sun has gone down." He turned to the cupboard to take out one of his
proto-types for Relik to inspect.

"I understand. I will be available after dinner, I imagine." Taking one of
the things in hand, he looked at it, expecting the journeyman to explain
the contraption.

Famell watched the interaction with interest. He hoped Relik would find the
new lights useful as it would benefit the trade with the seacrafters. He
was also watching Naton. He hadn't had as much chance as he would have
liked to see the journeyman's project up close and hear him explain it in
detail.

"That's wonderful. Now, this strap is used to attach the light to the
dolphin's head like this -" Naton pretended to wrap it around an imaginary
dolphin head "- and fastened like this -" he clicked the
strap in place. "You can open this lid here to insert a glow and if you
need a wider or more narrow beam you can adjust that over here." The
journeyman then pulled his hands back so Relik could inspect the device
himself.

"Could it be sized differently?" Relik could imagine this to be quite
useful, though his men wouldn't have as much use of it as the dolphineers
did. Scratching his chin, he examined the thing.

Famell watched as Naton described the device. His thoughts from a previous
encounter returning once again. Naton was good with words. He had good
leadership qualities. **Something to hold onto for later,** he mused. Right
now, he turned his attention back to the pair and learning as much as he
could about the device Naton had created.

"What size would you want it to be?" Naton asked curiously, wondering just
what the seacrafter had in mind.

"Well a human head is different than a dolphin head. Or even...if you could
use it as a belt instead..." Now that would be useful, especially on a
boat.

"A belt.." Naton said thoughtfully. "That would work. I could..." he
pondered it for a moment, looking at Relik, "Would you mind if I stole that
idea from you and made a few prototypes?"

"No, as long as I get a few of the finished product for free," Relik
agreed, letting the boy do the legwork.

Famell grinned at the bartering going on, "I'm sure we can arrange a fair
trade off for the idea and prototypes. Why don't we let Naton finish his
work and get started on the new ideas and then we will contact you when we
have something to show you? Unless you had anything else you wanted Naton
to know or show us?"

"Well no, not that I know of. And that'd be fine to see it when it's done
up." Relik wondered exactly why Famell was eager to leave the room but
perhaps that was better to find out if he left the room. "You know my
hallsecond is great for this sort of thing. Coming up with stuff."

"Wonderful, I'll see what I can do about it," Naton nodded, extending his
hand to Relik once more, as if to shake on the deal. He had a good feeling
about this. The extra use of his device would certainly help prove the
validity of his mastery project.
