Fears Confirmed

Writers: Chelle, Cymiri
Date Posted: 14th July 2013

Characters: Rhosyn, Reeva
Description: The healer is called to attend the Weyrwoman after she goes to her weyr.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 2, day 25 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Solieira, N'vanik, K'sedel; Follows a Feast for No One

With Solieira's help, she managed to get to her weyr, take a bath, and get
into a clean gown and into bed. She still felt a little dizzy but things weren't so
bad now that she wasn't moving around so many people, noise, and smells. Someone had fetched a
healer, she thought, and Rhosyn hoped it would be Reeva or someone who wouldn't bother her
overmuch. She was tired of this being sick and on her own Hatching Day!

"We should stop meeting like this, Weyrwoman." Soft spoken as ever, the healer's voice was tinged with
dry humor- and a slight murmur. That would be the hairpin stick firmly between her teeth for
lack of a set of hands to hold it. She was busily involved with trying to ensnare the hair she'd
brushed carefully loose back into a more workaday constraint. She'd failed to change from her smarter clothes
though, but the worn case she carried was back in its accustomed spot. It was an incongruous sight.
"So, what antics have you for me today?"

"Well you know throwing up in the middle of the Hatching into a serving bowl..." Rhosyn sighed and tried not to cry but a few tears came out. This was ridiculous!

At the Weyrwoman's face, Reeva abandoned the failing attempt with her uncooperative locks and instead pulled a kerchief
from her sleeve. A gentle hand mopped away the one tear she saw trickle down a cheek before placing it
in the younger woman's hands with a reassuring pat.

"Don't fret so. They'll delight in the bit of gossip then it will all be forgotten. Tell me more- what sparked it?"

"Admittedly I'd been sampling quite a bit on the food trays. I might have
eaten just a bit too much. Or maybe it was the sauce on the fish roll...
Just all of a sudden I felt nauseous and I felt it coming. So all I could
find was a bowl.." She sighed and looked down at her hands. And the very
slight bulge that her belly made under the sheet. Disgusted by her new
weight gain, Rhosyn vowed to fix that as soon as she started flying again.

"Oh yes?" Reeva's sharp eyes caught the nervous little movement- and some of what
seemed to go unsaid in the Weyrwoman's words. She'd heard murmurings from
another source that didn't really help either. She wasn't all that sure they
needed to be telling the cooks to remove the fish sauce just yet.
Busying herself fiddling, she gestured for Rhosyn to lay back properly.
"And has it happened before?" she asked neutrally.

Lying down and breathing, she looked up at the ceiling, prepared for the
healer to look down her throat or whatever she needed to do. "Sometimes when
I overeat I get a bit sick, but not recently." Indeed-this scared her
because usually Rhosyn had an iron constitution. She ate what she wanted
when she wanted.

Because she well knew the dangers of assumption, Reeva did check certain
other things, including her throat, asking Rhosyn this or to do that as it
was appropriate. She found nothing to contradict the niggling feeling she
had and an awful lot to support it- not least a certain new roundness to the
familiar patient. Her amusement at the scenario made her want to smile, but
professionalism kept her face as neutral as ever.

"Your dragon had a Flight recently." Rather self-obvious statement, given
the Hatching feast proceeding merrily without both of them. "Do you take much
precaution in that area normally?"

"Precaution?" It took a moment for Rhosyn to switch gears and it didn't take
her long to see where Reeva was going with this and she didn't like it-not
one bit. Still, she quieted her nerves, knowing it would leak out to her
dragon who was still basking the afterglow of the Hatching. "No, I usually
deal with it after."

One eyebrow lifted, but the healer otherwise kept the snarky comment that
rose to her lips inside.

"I can find no obvious reason you would take ill, Weyrwoman. Your
temperature and throat is normal, you seem to have no digestive distress..."
She considered a moment- but then, she was a direct woman and always had
been. "It may be worth considering that this time you didn't do that."

"Well of course. I was so caught up and worried about everything else." She
sighed, allowing that it might very well be possible, though not the most
desired of outcomes for her. "How can I know?"

"You can, of course, have the dolphins confirm it. But I'd fly there straight,
myself, Weyrwoman- there is little doubt." Reeva smiled slightly, a little amused.

She sighed, thinking that was just wonderful. "Allright Reeva. You can go then
and I'll just try to rest thank you. I'll have to talk to the Weyrleader about all of
this." Rhosyn was looking forward to that conversation.

Reeva's grin widened into something toothier. "Rather you than me, Rhosyn. Those
big shiny dragons tend to give those boys fine opinions." She winked, and petted the back of Rhosyn's
hand. "Yours is the only one that needs to count."
