Description: D'naz and F'aen continue their 'interest' in each other and
their relationship grows
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 21 of Turn 7
D'naz had been busy with his schedule of duties and he knew F'aen had
been busy as well. He wanted to see the greenrider again. Not only had
he enjoyed his company since they'd gotten to be friends, he'd enjoyed
the time they'd spent together after Scarleth's Flight.
He'd checked and found out that F'aen was done with his duties for the
day. Now all D'naz had to do was _find_ him.
F'aen had been busy running errands, which wasn't unusual for a
greenrider new to the Wing, and after he'd dropped off his last
package he had gratefully accepted the invitation to sit and have a
drink with a few other riders. F'aen knew most of the men sitting at
the table, although the handsome bluerider sitting across from him was
certainly a pleasant surprise.
"I am F'aen, of green Scarleth, I don't think we have met before." He
extended his hand over the table.
"I am Ey'thar, and I can assure you that we have not, I would remember
you." Ey'thar winked at the greenrider flirtatiously.
Flashing a smile at the man, who was probably only a Turn or so his
elder, F'aen took a deep drink from the cup of klah that had been
passed in his direction.
}:Keluth's rider is looking for you.:{
**D'naz?** F'aen asked with surprised, but found that he was pleased
as well. Things between himself and D'naz had certainly taken a nice
turn after Scarleth's mating flight, but it still surprised F'aen that
the bluerider would be seeking him out. They were far apart in age,
and while that did not necessarily matter at the Weyr, F'aen had
worried that it might be an obstacle.
}:He's in the Dining Cavern.:{ Scarleth happily supplied to Keluth,
her blue mate as of her last flight.
Keluth relayed the message to his rider. D'naz immediately turned and
headed in that direction. As he approached the dining cavern he
stopped himself for a moment and thought about what he was doing. Was
he being foolish? D'naz had an affinity for more long-term mates and
hadn't taken another since the loss of N'ril. He'd dallied with men
when he needed to, but had never sought one of them out the way he was
with F'aen.
Almost convincing himself _not_ to continue it was Keluth who provided
the needed encouragement, }:Scarleth's rider makes you feel happy. I
miss this happy side of you. Go, spend time with him.:{
With that encouragement, D'naz moved forward. It didn't matter if he
just sat with F'aen for a spell, he just felt the _need_ to be near
the younger greenrider.
Glancing around the cavern he spotted him at a table with some other
riders. He knew most all them, though some only by name. Walking over
to the group, he gave a big grin, his usual smile when greeting
others.
"Hello there. Would you all mind if I join you for a spell?" He was
speaking to the group, but his eyes were focused on F'aen as he spoke.
F'aen wasn't listening closely as the others all agreed to D'naz's
arrival, instead he was smiling at the bluerider as he kicked the
chair out beside of him, "I have an open seat right here." He winked
at D'naz, although he thought he felt Ey'thar's heated gaze on them,
obviously wondering at the connection between the two men.
D'naz let out his breath on a relieved sigh. He already felt as though
the weight of his work was lifted just _being_ around F'aen. He wasn't
sure why the greenrider had that affect on him, but he accepted it and
found himself wishing he could run into F'aen more often.
"Thank you, it's been a long day with the weyrlings. It's nice to have
more _adult_ company for a chance," he said as he nodded and greeted
those at the table. He caught the eye of another of the blueriders.
Ey'thar...the name finally came to him. He didn't know the other rider
well.
Settling into the seat, D'naz was pleased when one of his favorite
kitchen workers, Ganari, appeared and with a smile brought him a cup
of klah and a small plate of pastries.
Leaning over she said quietly, "I saw you come in and brought you some
of your favorites." Then with a smile and a wink Ganari was gone.
Ganari always took good care of him. He helped her with tasks from
time to time and had even taken her children on some dragon rides over
the Turns.
Setting the plate down, he picked up one pastry that had some sort of
jam oozing out of it and took a bit. "Feel free to have some," he
gestured to the plate, offering it to those at the table.
F'aen laughed at the appearance of the pastries, "Leave it to you,
D'naz, you have the most connections out of anyone I've met. Is there
anyone you haven't charmed at this Weyr?" He grabbed one of the
pastries from the plate, and picked it apart with fingers, feeding it
to himself a pinch at a time as he waited for the bluerider's reply.
The other men at the table seemed grateful for the plate of goodies as
well as they all eagerly helped themselves. It was Ey'thar who
declined any, and instead settled for fixing F'aen with a pleasant
smile.
"So, F'aen," Ey'thar spoke up, deliberately trying to break the
greenrider's focus on D'naz, "I hear your Scarleth just had her first
flight a few days ago. How was it?"
Poor Ey'thar was far too obvious in his interest, but it amused F'aen
as he arched an eyebrow, "It was beyond expectation, actually, and
D'naz here can vouch for that since it was his Keluth that won."
"Ah, well, you've got to make friends where you can," D'naz replied to
F'aen's question before the conversation turned toward the other
bluerider. He watched with interest Ey'thar tried to take control of
the conversation. D'naz. felt a slight pang of something akin to
jealously as he watched the obvious interest of Ey'thar towards F'aen.
He squashed the feelings quickly, knowing he had no claim on the
greenrider.
"Oh, aye, it was a great Flight," D'naz grinned and shot a look toward
F'aen. His eyes flashed with a hint of desire, though he did his best
to reign it in around the other riders.
F'aen caught that look in D'naz's eyes he'd seen a sliver of that look
before when he'd woken up in the bluerider's arms after Scarleth's
flight. Desire pooled in the greenrider's stomach and in that instant
the pastries and other dragonriders seemed nonexistent. Why were they
wasting time in the Dining Cavern when they could be enjoying each
others company in the privacy of their weyrs?
}:My rider would like to know if he could go with yours back to your
weyr?:{ Scarleth passed along to Keluth.
It wasn't a conversation that F'aen really wanted to have in front of
the other men at the table, and he waited with a poised eyebrow for
D'naz's reply, his eyes watching the man's face for a reaction.
Keluth relayed the message, }:Scarleth's rider wishes to come to our
weyr with you,:{
D'naz's eyebrow inched upward at that message. He had to do everything
in his power to control his reaction in front of the others. His eyes,
however turned to F'aen with a burning desire and his lips curled into
a faint smile.
Rising, he glanced to F'aen once more and then spoke to the group, "If
you'll excuse me men, I've just recalled that I have some _very_
important business to take care of in my weyr. Enjoy the pastries and
thank you for letting me join you." He moved from the table and
glanced back with a look that indicated he wanted F'aen to follow.
F'aen didn't even try to come up with an excuse, instead he winked at
the remaining dragonriders at the table and stood, "Well boys, I'll
catch up with you all later." Tipping his head at them and ignoring
their knowing grins, F'aen followed after D'naz, who he caught up with
outside of the Dining Cavern.
"I have not seen you since Scarleth's flight, bluerider, where have
you been?" F'aen asked, a teasing tone in his voice as his eyebrows
arched upward.
D'naz relaxed when F'aen joined him. They walked together side by side
a few paces before he answered.
"It's been a busy time. The werylings are preparing to go /between/
soon and it has taken more effort than I expected." D'naz heaved a bit
of a sigh, the lines on his face showing worry for the first time.
"Being new to this, I'm anxious. I've heard and known enough to know
that not all the weyrlings survive. I'm not sure how I'll stomach it
if we lose any of them."
He hadn't meant to change the mood, but one of the reasons he's sought
out F'aen was that he'd needed an outlet for his worry. He'd needed to
feel the happiness and joy he'd felt when he was around the younger
rider.
"Being with you, however, helps me to feel better. I'm glad you had
Scarleth tell Keluth your thoughts." D'naz's eyebrows rose in
playfulness. "I couldn't wait to get away from those others. I _want_
to be with you, and just you."
F'aen was not surprised to hear that D'naz was worried about his
Weyrlings, he knew that losing any rider was hard, but especially on
the Weyrling staff after they had helped nurture and develop the young
ones. There had been casualties in F'aen's class, not many, but the
losses were still tough, and F'aen remembered the gloom that had hung
about his classmates for a while afterwards.
Reaching out, F'aen caught hold of D'naz's hand, and linked their
fingers together loosely, "But if you need some help getting your mind
off of the worry, I think I have a few things that might help." A grin
spread across the greenrider's lips.
He liked the way it felt when F'aen's fingers joined with his. D'naz
almost wanted to sigh with relief. He couldn't even explain it, but
being with F'aen brought him peace he didn't feel at other times.
"I would love to find out _exactly_ what those _things_ might be,"
D'naz replied with a knowing smile of his own. He was eager and his
body was already pumping with anticipation for what was to come. It
didn't take him long to lead F'aen to his weyr. Pushing open the door,
D'naz invited him in. The instant the door was closed, D'naz turned
and gazed hungrily at the taller greenrider.
"I've been wanting some time alone with you since the Flight." D'naz
took a step closer, reaching his hands up to run them down F'aen's
arms. "Now, how about some of those _distractions_ you mentioned
before?"
