Arippa or Faldrimme

Faldrimme
K'reyel

K'reyel

She reached an arm up and wiped the sweat from her brow. Faldrimme had
never had to work so hard in her life. She wasn't sure she was
actually cut out for this crafting business after all. Leaving her
rake, she moved over to where the water was stored. She was due for a
short break. Filling a cup, she sat on a stone ledge and drank her
fill. Her eyes watching everything around her, taking in all the
sights of the Weyr.

"Taking a break?" asked a passing bronzerider.

She looked up at the man and smiled. Her eyes flicked to the knots he
wore. She was learning to read those to help her get a better idea of
who was who in the Weyr.

"Yes, it's _very_ hot today. They recommended we take breaks and drink
lots of water," Faldrimme replied, lifting up the cup she was drinking
from. She'd only been at this a few days and already she wasn't sure
she could keep it up. She took more breaks than the other apprentices,
and she knew they thought her weak because of it.

"You're new here," it was a statement, not a question. Spend long enough in
a warm climate and regular breaks for drinks became a habit, not something
that had to be thought about. "Have you got a canteen yet? Or a water skin?"

"No not yet. I should probably find out how to get one of those for
myself," Faldrimme replied, wondering who she should talk to about
that. No one had mentioned that to her yet.

"Ask the headwoman, if you tell her that K'reyel advised it she'll see that
someone gets one for you."

"Thank you, K'reyel," she said the name so she would remember it. "I'm
Faldrimme." She looked at his knots again. She was still learning to
read all the dragonrider knots. "You are a....bronzerider?" She asked,
pointing to the said knots on his shoulder. There was more going on
with his knots than that, but she hadn't figured out all the parts
yet.

"That's right, Erdenth is my lifemate. We're part of the Weyrleader's wing"

"Oh," Faldrimme replied, "I'm sure it's an honor to be part of his
wing." She really was still working on her communication skills with
the riders. They were so different than the people she spent most of
her time with back at the Hold. She wasn't really sure what else to
say to him.

"You could say that. But they look at us as the ones to set an example for
the rest of the Weyr, be they rider or not."

"I see. So you have to make sure you are setting a good example all
the time. I understand that," and she did. For being part of the Blood
at Amber Hills meant that she had to know her place and act the proper
lady at all times. That was until she came here. Life here was much
different.

"You do?" he asked.

She blinked at him and realized that she'd revealed alot more about
herself than she'd intended. She'd been trying to keep her family
heritage fairly quiet for fear people would treat her differently,
but alas, she _had_ started this.

Sighing a bit she replied, "Yes, I'm from Amber Hills Hold. My
grandfather was Lord Benaroy. We were raised to set a good example for
all the people. So, yes, I know what that feels like to have people
watching you and judging your every move."

"Welcome to River Bluff, my Lady," K'reyel said courteously. "I hope you
enjoy your stay."

"Thank you," she replied.

"I must take my leave now, but get yourself a canteen," K'reyel advised.

"I'll do that," she replied as she watched him leave. "Nice to meet
you!" She called after him. She didn't even know his name.

"Hey Faldrimme!" Settin, one of the young apprentices. "I didn't know you
knew him."

She looked over at her fellow apprentice. "I just met him actually."
She didn't want to sound _too_ foolish by asking _who_ he was.

"So you know that was the Weyrleader's second, K'reyel then?"

"Who? Wait....what?" She asked, turning to stare after the man who was
now quite a distance away from them. Her eyes were wide. He was
important in the Weyr, just as her own family was important back at
the Hold. It was like talking with someone close to the Lord Holder
and not even knowing it. "I didn't know," she finally said to Settin.

"He's supposed to be too busy for the likes of us apprentices," commented
the young lad. "Still we better get back before the Journeyman comes to hunt
us down."

**Too busy? Interesting** She wondered why he'd stopped to talk with
her then if he didn't talk with the other apprentices much. He hadn't
seemed to know who she was at first, so it couldn't be her family
heritage.

"Yes, we'd best get back to work. Don't want to get in trouble
already," Faldrimme replied, taking another drink and vowing to get
her self a canteen as soon as she was finished with this shift.
