R'enh

R'enh

R'enh didn't bother with a grand announcement or request for an
audience. Instead he just walked into her weyr. They'd been very close
once, probably closer than she was currently with N'vanik. That didn't
cause any negative feelings in him for their intimacies had amicably
faded to a long term friendship and his heart had moved on long since.

Now, it was the friend that came for a visit. "Rhosyn?"

In her part of the world it was just after lunch, so she wasn't actually in
her weyr. Orlaith had told her Mnoranth was there, though, so the goldrider
put two and two together and made her way there as soon as she could.
Walking inside, she found him there. It was a sevenday after she had gone
to Dolphin Cove and been ignored and she hadn't returned since so she was
curious. "Hi."

The corner of his mouth tilted up in a half smile. "How are you doing?"

"I've just returned to full duties. Well at least to what I can do since Orlaith
is grounded now." And she wasn't thinking of her personal life-at all. "You?"

"Thought I'd stop by and see how you were is all." It wasn't all but
that was fine for now at least.

"I'm okay. Busy but okay. How are things with you?" She found herself a little
unsure around him for once, which was strange. So much had happened lately
and Rhosyn wasn't sure if she thought of him as hers anymore. Maybe he was
more loyal to N'vanik...

"Fine," he said and since that was about all the pleasantries he could
stand he just asked the question. "You know why N'vanik is angry don't
you?"

"Loseth said it had to do something with Traelyn but I am not nor will I
ever be anything like that _woman_ and it disappoints me that he would
think so." Instead of her usual brash manner, she spoke that slowly and
softly, showing that it had indeed hurt her very much.

"Not just Traelyn, Jaela too," he said softly.

"What does she have to do with anything?" R'enh would know better than
anyone that up until Rhosyn had gone to River Bluff, she rarely had
anything to do with the rest of the South's Weyrs. She had been kept
at Vista Point-controlled. And that was likely why she hadn't had a
reputation at that time, her nature considering. Confusion crossed the
goldrider's face and then she wondered how R'enh knew more than she
did.

"I don't know the whole story," he said. "But she was fine one day and
died the next," he shook his head. "That is bound to leave a mark on
anyone what was at all close to her."

"So what? Does that mean every time I get sick, he's going to go
crazy?" She shook
her head, still not understanding. "Because that is just not going to work."

"No," R'enh shook his head emphatically "Jaela died from an ectopic
pregnancy. You said you were sick and hid, throwing healers and your
gold at him to keep him away. Traelyn shut him out. You shut him out.
Do I have to spell it out for you? You scared him Rhosyn. He doesn't
want _anyone_ to do that to him again. He's lost too much already."

And that made her think. She hadn't known any of that before. **He
thought I was pregnant?** Turning her head just slightly, the Weyrwoman
considered the situation from his perspective. "And now he won't talk to me.
Brilliant. Is he okay?" Looking back at her friend of so many turns, she
didn't know if there was any fixing this.

"He'll be fine, it will just take time, but you know he missed most of
his daughter's life Rhosyn. I know he doesn't want that to happen
again. I certainly wouldn't."

She sighed, thinking about what R'enh was saying. "No....So he thinks I
would hide something like that from him. No, he doesn't understand me
at all." Hopefully N'vanik would realize his error and come to speak to her.
Otherwise, she mulled over what R'enh was saying.

"I don't think he reasoned anything like that out. But whatever
happened, you scared him, then wouldn't let him in which just made it
worse." At least that was all he could figure out about it.

She needed time to process all of this and Rhosyn also planned to ask
some of her Weyrfolk who had been at Dragonsfall at that time about
what had happened. Perhaps it was time she get a little more familiar
with N'vanik's past. "Why did he miss all of Cosani's raising?" She
didn't know that part-the why.

R'enh gave her a rather sad smile. "He didn't know she existed until
she just showed up on his doorstep. I can guarantee he doesn't want
that to happen again."

"Hmmm." Rhosyn cursed those duplicitous women again. Still, she had
hoped he could rise above all of that for her. Looking at her hands, she
didn't know what else to say really. "Does he know you're here?"

Truthfully, he wasn't quite sure N'vanik had heard him when he said
where he was going. But he opted for the affirmative and nodded."Got
any snacks?"
