Description: The new Weyrlingmaster visits the Weyrdragonhealer to see about an old injury
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 1, day 5 of Turn 7
H'vack strode into the Dragonhealers rooms. Glancing around, he noted
it was fairly empty at this time. Not surprising, since it wasn't a
Fall.
Seeing movement, he strode towards the corner.
"Hello," he called out as he approached.
"Hello," replied Y'gel from the bench where he was restocking some of
his cleaned utensils.
"I've come to check in with the healers here. I'm H'vack, the new
Weyrlingmaster. My dragon, Rilarth had a tail injury awhile back and
started complaining that it was bothering him again. I can't say I
notice anything wrong with it, but I wanted to make sure." H'vack had
said his piece and waited for the man to respond.
"Good to meet you H'vack," he smiled and held out a hand. "I'm Y'gel,
Aughashyth's rider. Let's have a look shall we?"
"Nice to meet you, Y'gel," H'vack replied. He'd noted that the man was
the Weyrdragonhealer from his knots. It was always good to get to know
someone in his position.
H'vack led the way to where Rilarth was waiting.
"This is Y'gel, Ri," he told the dragon, "he's going to check out your tail."
The bronze dragon swished said tail towards Y'gel.
}:Tell him it hurts on the right side.:{ Rilarth had H'vack relay the message.
"Ahh," said the big dragon healer and examined it visually before he
touched anything. But when he bent over to look he could see a bit of
swelling on one side of the bronze tail. He reached out and ran his
hand lightly over the length of it and could feel the edema.
Straightening up he took a step back and cocked his head toward the rider.
"I'd say he's chased a rather tricky green lately." Y'gel's grin
broadened. "Did you catch her?"
H'vack stood there for a moment and then laughed.
"Is _that_ what caused it!?" He was shaking his head incredulously.
"We did chase, and Rilarth _did_ succeed," he gave a bit of a _look_
to Y'gel, knowing the other man would understand. "She wasn't an easy
catch. Do you think it will be a problem?"
"It _could_ be the cause of a flair up in that particular area. "
Y'gel smiled at the other rider. "Maybe you could get him to swear off
them for a week or two?" He knew how difficult that might be for a
bronze in his prime.
"I _think_ I can control him for that long, since he did _just_ win
the last Flight before we came here. Do we need to do anything further
to treat it or will it simply heal on its own?" H'vack wanted to make
sure Rilarth was in tip top shape as he took on his new role here at
River Bluff.
"It should heal on its own. But if he's in pain there's always a bit
of numbweed or a soak in the warm waters around here. There are some
hot pools some of the riders swear by up the coast a little." Y'gel
smiled. He'd more than once availed himself of them and Aug had one he
particularly liked when his wing started to ache. "I could show you
if you like."
H'vack nodded. "Now, that sounds like a better solution than numbweed.
I'd appreciate it if you'd show us." He found he liked this man.
H'vack seldom made decisions about people so rashly, but when he did,
he was _always_ spot on.
Y'gel grinned and clapped the other man on the shoulder. "How about a
spot of dinner then and we can go up the coast after for a nice soak.
My Aug got flamed in a training accident Turn's ago. He likes to go up
there when his wing begins to ache. I'm sure he'd like the chance to
just relax up there."
H'vack agreed. Pleased that not only had Rilarth's injury been taken
care of, but he'd met a new comrade to spend time with here at River
Bluff.
