Description: Sabonus finally makes his way back to Uetia...
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 13, day 23 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: U'das
Sabonus shouldered his bag, and after giving the members of the crew a
final handshake and pat on the back, he walked down the gang plank and
back onto the dock once more. **Home at last!** he thought, breathing
in the familiar air. For some reason it smelled cleaner, fresher than
he had ever imagined it could be. The cliffs glowed a beautiful hue he
had never noticed before. The sounds of the waves, the creaking ships,
the voices, all were like the most excellent music. Such a long absence
truly could make the heart gloss over any blemish and render a place
the peak of perfection. Now, to find Uetia! Shards he ached to hold her
for more than just a moment!
She was running. She got word his ship had finally limped in the port
and as soon as the drills ended she headed for there.
"Sabonus!" she cried.
He stopped as soon as the sound reached his ears. There was no
mistaking that voice. "Uetia?" he called back, looking around,
searching for her.
And then she was there, wrapping her arms around his neck. "You're
back!" she kissed him soundly.
With a quick shrug, his bag slid from his shoulder so he could fully
embrace the greenrider. Even though their lips parted, he could not
bare the thought of loosening his hold on her. He had waited far too
long for this moment. "Well, I made it home," he said before diving in
for another kiss.
"I'm so glad you did," Uetia said with a sigh of relief.
"I hope you don't mind, but I told them I didn't need my berth
anymore..." His eyes gleamed at the thought that tonight he would be
sleeping beside her once more.
"Well, it just happens my weyr might have enough room for one seilor,"
Uetia said with a grin of expectation.
"_Might_?" he asked with an amused smile. "What else are you keeping
in your weyr, hmm?"
"Mighty big green," Uetia said ** and occasional harper.** She was
trying hard not to think of him.
"Well, that's true. You can't help that one," he grinned, touching his
nose to hers. "So you'll make room for me then?"
"Certainly," Uetia replied. "You just have to help me clean up," she
couldn't resist it and grinned. She wasn't the neatest person on Pern,
but neither was she messiest.
"Oh, but that takes time, and I _definitely_ don't want to waste time
cleaning. Unless we do it naked and take frequent breaks." In fact,
he didn't want to see a stitch of clothing on her for the next day at
least! He nuzzled her neck, letting his hands slip down to her well
defined backside. "Your man has missed you."
"Now, that sounds like a great plan," Uetia said enthusiastically and
called Sirjath to give them a lift.
~*~ A while later ~*~
They didn't get any cleaning done, just made more less. Lifting her
head from Sabonus' shoulder, she could see the trail of discarded
clothes leading from the ledge to the bed. Including Sabonus' seaman's
bag, which had somehow ended under chair.
"You're not going anywhere are you?" he asked, cracking open an eye to
look at her.
"Nope," she replied and her head fell back to rest against him.
"Good." Sabonus kissed the top of her head and let his lips linger as
he breathed her in. Shards, she smelled so good! He, however, most
likely did not. "I probably stink pretty bad, don't I." That was
something he really should have thought about _before_ throwing her
down on the bed, he realized.
"It's not bothering me," Uetia said honestly. "When you grow up as only
woman in household, you get used to all kind of smells. At least you're
not smelling like ripe fish."
"I'm glad to know you love me even when I stink." He laughed softly,
stroking the fingers of the hand that rested on his chest. "Tell me
what you've been up to since I've been gone. Tell me everything I've
missed."
"Well, there's guite a lot to tell, let's start from the most recent.
We had a big birthday party for uncle U'das...and then he found out
he's going blind..." Uetia started.
"U'das? What?" Sabonus was truly shocked by that news. "Why? What
happened?"
"Old age and bad luck I suppose. Some people lose eyesight when they
age and few unfortunate ones lose it earlier," Uetia replied, her
voice sad.
"I'm sorry to hear that," he said, with true sympathy in his voice.
Sabonus couldn't believe that U'das would end his amazing career in
such a sorry way. "That must be hard on him."
"Yeah, it's so sharding unfair," Uetia said and buried her face against
him.
"Hey, now," he said gently, pulling her closer. "He may be going
blind, but he's not _dying_. And he won't be taken before his time by
Thread, either. It's not all bad."
"You're right. And you're here. So, how about taking a bath together?"
"And where shall we take that bath?" he asked with a grin. Sabonus was
certainly not opposed to the idea. "I'm not sure I could keep my
hands off of you in a public bathing pool."
"I'm sure Uncle U'das won't mind if we borrow his," Uetia said with
wicked tone.
"Hmmm... Sounds like a good plan. But, there's a spot on my back I
can't reach. I might need your help."
"There are few other places I can help to wash too," her voice was
growing husky again.
"Well, I guess that means we have to get dressed again," he said with a
dramatic sigh. "But it's for a good cause. Show me to the bathing
pool, greenrider, and let's get a little dirty."
