Y'gel hummed as he approached the Weyrwoman's door and rapped on the
frame. "Rhosyn? Got a minute?"
"Aye," she answered from inside where she'd been reading Solieira's menu
for the next few sevendays. It was enough to make her quite content, thinking
about the food items and what they would taste like. It was making her hungry
though so she hoped this wouldn't take long.
Y'gel didn't realize it but he had a rather silly little half-grin on
his face. Maybe it was just because something marvelous had just
occurred. It was something he'd never really believed would actually
happen and now that it had, he wanted it as 'official' as he could
make it.
He slid into the chair across from the little Weyrwoman and leaned
forward with his elbows on his knees and waited for her to look up
from her work.
When she did she noticed the smile right off. And her eyes began to
look a little suspicious. "You look like you've eaten some very good cake."
He chuckled a little. "Hmm I guess you could say that." He didn't want
to give it away all up front. He'd spent way too much effort getting
here not to savor the moment just a little.
"Well I know you have a new son, but that's been a bit of time so it
can't possibly be that again. So something else." She couldn't put her
finger on it, though, and she wasn't really in the mood for guessing.
"Did you get a new journeyman promoted?"
"No," he smiled. "It's much better than that." He paused for effect.
"Briata has agreed to Weyrmate with me."
Now that _was_ news. Rhosyn sat back in her chair, thinking about what this
might mean. She could have more bronzerider-HAD candidates coming. And Y'gel
was far less likely to be killed in threadfall so Briata wouldn't have
to have that
problem again. And no more single former Lady Holder running around the Weyr
unsupervised. **This is good. This is very good**
"Well congratulations! And when is the party?" Of course a harper would have to
be arranged usually, though K'sedel himself could do such things. He
left it to the
harpers, though, most of the time.
Y'gel had the grace to look surprised. "I hadn't even thought about
that," his mouth twisted sideways. "Do you think I should suggest she
talk to them or should I?
"Well usually these ceremonies are the responsibility of the wife's family,
so in this case-I might leave it to her." Briata had already been married once,
though, so there was the possibility she might not want a big fuss. Leaving it
up to her to do how she wanted was probably the best choice.
He nodded with a little smile. "I'll talk to her about it and see what
she wants to do. Thank you Rhosyn."
"You're welcome. By the way, I'm claiming all of your future offspring
for the Weyr,
just so you know." She was smiling, but it was unclear if she was
teasing or not, really.
Y'gel threw his head back and laughed harder than he had in ages. "As
if I could ever get them out of your clutches woman." His Gelira was
already firmly enamored of their little whirlwind of a Weyrwoman, not
that he blamed her. "But I doubt you'll pry Brigel out of his mother's
arms any time soon."
"Oh no, she and I spoke about that. She says once he's old enough she'd
like to be a fostermother which suits me just fine. So many children and so
few mothers to care for them. And I won't have to worry about finding one
for Brigel either." She had just solved two problems with that solution. Rhosyn
thought this was turning out better than she had even thought. Now she'd
have a steady little stream of candidates, possibly some who could hear
all the dragons, once they were born and old enough of course.
Y'gel smiled at that. She was already thinking ahead. Though he didn't
want to be over burdened with chidren in his weyr. He did love them
but he also prized some quiet time at the end of the day. "Not too
many I hope."
"It's up to her," Rhosyn answered quickly. She didn't generally give them too
many at a time though.
"Alright," he chuckled. "Well I should see what she wants to do and
then I'll let you know."
