Reven

Caenir didn't even take the time to look over the quarters he'd been
given. Nor did he walk the halls to familiarize himself with his new
home. No, the first place Caenir went to was the stables. He stood
in the doorway and surveyed the scene, then drew in a deep breath.
Ah, the smell of runners and hay and leather all mingled together.
His lips curled up into a smile and he moved over to a stall that held
a pretty little filly. "Hey girl." He murmured as he stroked the
soft nose. "I'm Caenir. Nice to meet you."

Word spread fast around a small place like Green Valley, so Reven knew
the moment Caenir arrived and he eagerly dropped some of the ledgers
he'd been reading and headed for the stables. Reven had become
acquainted with Caenir when he lived at Red Rush, so he knew without a
doubt that the man would already be familiarizing himself with the
stables.

"Just what I thought, talking to the animals already." Reven said with
a smile, as he came in on the tail end of Caenir's introduction to one
of the runners.

"Reven." Caenir moved away from the runner and held out his hand to
catch his friend's, then pull him into a pounding hug. "Good to see
you again." He took a step back to look his friend over. "And now a
holder. I suppose I should learn to be more formal."

Reven turned the hug, clapping Caenir on the back, "Oh yes, because I
am _so_ formal." He replied sarcastically, a grin covering his face.
Having Caenir at the hold made him feel as if he had at least one
friend. Someone he could have a drink with and not be the "Holder".

"I see you've already acquainted yourself with the only ladies that
will be in your life." He motioned to the runners.

"Yes, well, I have to admit, I get along just fine with these ladies."
Caenir gave his friend a half grin. "You found me fast. I've not
been here for long. How are you settling in?" The only ladies, most
likely. It wasn't that Caenir didn't like women, it was just that
he'd never really found one he loved and could marry. He supposed he
didn't have to love one, but no one interested him enough to catch his
attention for that long. "Where's Ellena?"

"Ah, Ellena, turns out she didn't want to leave Red Rush. Which makes
this finding a wife thing interesting. When I met with Lord Corowal
his advice was to find a wife and produce an heir fast. As it was,
they were scraping the bottom of the barrel when they found me to take
over." He chuckled, although an image of Arippa did flash through his
mind. He'd gotten to know her briefly during his stay at Emerald
Falls, and if he had his way he would be getting to know her better
soon.

"I'm sorry to hear that." Caenir had thought Reven was going to marry
the girl, but if the girl refused to leave Red Rush, she obviously
didn't love him all that much. "Well, I'm sure there are nice women
around here." Not that he would no, or necessarily look for himself.

"Aye, that there is, and there's some promising ones at Emerald Falls
as well." Reven looked around the stables, "I know you've just got in
but do you have everything you need down here?"

"I've not taken stock yet, but I'll let you know. As far as my
personal effects, I'm fine." Caenir tilted his head at the mention of
Emerald Falls. "Found another woman already?"

Reven laughed, clearly guilty of the accusation, "Maybe, we'll see."
He rubbed the back of his neck.

"Good. Ellena wasn't good enough for you." Caenir grinned and clapped
his friend on his shoulder. "You need someone who will make you
happy."

"Says the man who is single." Reven pointed out.

Caenir spread his hands apart. "I'm happy. And maybe I'll eventually
meet someone. Just haven't yet." He shrugged, then reached out to
give the mare another scritch. "Besides, looks like I have a fine
girl right here."

"I don't know Cae she might be too pretty for you." Reven teased,
clapping his friend on the shoulder.

"That she might." Caenir laughed and gave the mare one last pat
before he turned back to his friend, a playful twinkle in his eye.
"How about you show me to my quarters? Or are you above that now that
you're Holder?"

"Well," Reven gave a lofty sigh. "I suppose I can take time out of my
busy day to show you to your rooms." He grinned as they started
walking.

"You honour me Holder Reven!" Caenir laughed, then walked alongside
his friend toward the main building of his new home.
