Follows Side of Roast Weyrwoman

Once she made it to her weyr from the mating cots, the Weyrwoman
immediately got herself into some cold water. It soothed her skin and
she couldn't help but breathe a huge sigh of relief. To keep things as
quiet as possible, she let K'sedel find a healer. It wasn't unusual to have
a healer checkup after a mating flight to make sure nothing was torn
and injured enough to need attention.

She might not have been entirely thrilled, had she known who was
dispatched after a surreptitious whispered conversation. Reeva was not
the happiest ray of sunshine to bless the infirmary, with a
nature both slightly acidic and rather gruff. But she was also
wonderfully good at what she did- and quiet about what she saw.

"Weyrwoman." The terse title, after a curt knock that _didn't_ await a response before
entering, was greeting and statement in one. She swung her case up onto
the nearest surface to hand. That the greeting came to a woman in a bathing
pool rather than in a seat or bed didn't seem to flap the healer one inch.

"Oh thank Faranth." Rhosyn was just grateful to see someone who might
be able to ease her pain and get her through this mess. And a healer
had to keep confidence so that wouldn't be an issue. It was also a little less
awkward since Reeva was a female. "I numbweeded before I came but I needed
to get into the cold water." Through the clear water, it was immediately apparent
that the Weyrwoman was suffering from second degree burns on her entire body.

"Two processes that will have neutralized each other. Please get out. You
cannot possibly dry other than by air, though that shouldn't be too unpleasant, other
than the awkward dripping and/or drooping." A brief flash there of
the terribly dry humor that many didn't believe she actually had.

"Looks like the Weyrwoman fell asleep on the beach, hmm?" No, Reeva was not
blissfully unaware of the mating flight. She was just discreet, and to a large extent
disinterested in the odder habits of riding life. It was clear she didn't expect an answer
back either way despite the implied question. Slim fingers began rooting
in her case, looking for the pots she wanted.

One plus of being assigned this healer was she usually had *good*
medicines. No one dared fob a fellow apothecary off with inferior
produce- and she liked experimenting. Her own over-achieving nature
tended to make them _good_ experiments.

Sighing, Rhosyn got out of the cool water, already missing it. Standing there, she put
her hands on her hips. She wasn?t ashamed, just uncomfortable due to her skin so it
was no problem standing there as she waited for Reeva to do what she would.
Spotting the glass of water she?d forgotten, she reached for it and
began drinking. ?So how bad is it? I mean...are we talking days, a sevenday what??

Finding what she had been searching for, Reeva straightened, leaving several little pots
on the table and the Weyrwoman's question unanswered. "Before you finish that..."

She handed Rhosyn a small twist of her own particular pain-killing blend to drink with the
water. "That should help some and won't make you sleepy. I can help with that, though, if
it is a problem, but you probably have duties. Does your head hurt?" She would be surprised
if it didn't. The way she circled the other woman like a predator would have been funny, if
they'd had an observer or Reeva had a notable sense of humor, but she was too busy scrutinizing
the damaged skin. Fingers hovered briefly over the worst part- shoulders and back, as always-
but didn't touch. She was well aware that comical though it may always sound, sunburn of this
degree was serious.

"You have blistering beginning. Blistering on such burns is bad. It will take at least a sevenday.
I would anticipate some pain past that as well. If it begins to peel, it will be worse than if it
does not. Bad, like for your dragons. Not a good look for parties either." Reeva's habitual delivery would
probably sound monotone on a more robust woman, but her voice was soft and low and it disguised
some of the flat delivery and allowed the occasional shred of dry humor to show.

"We cannot allow infection. I need to be sure the skin is clean- which will hurt a little but not
much I hope, for the sake of my knots- then I can use the numbweed. This blend will be
stronger and better than that the stores have. The blistering will need a light dressing to ward off
infection. Your shoulders are the worst. Would you care to lie down for comfort, Weyrwoman?"

"Wait, so what are we doing now?" She'd lost track of what the woman was saying except for the
sevenday part. She was going to have to tell K'sedel. Shardit all. Following Reeva was quite hard
when one was hurting and burning and beginning to just want sleep. Rhosyn was a
patient that would have to be led.

Reeva smiled, thin lipped but genuine. "Drink the painkiller, Weyrwoman. Then please lie
down on the bed, on your stomach, so I may dress the worst. I need to
know if you feel chills, feverish or your head hurts." She stood back patiently, waiting for compliance
or questions.

Nodding numbly, she took the drink and swallowed it. Grimacing at the
taste of the stuff, she made a few motions with her lips. **Foul**
Moving slowly, she got down onto the bed, squeaking some since
she didn't have any more numbweed yet and the painkiller hadn't kicked in.
**Slowlllyyy** "Reeva, it's hard to know if I'm feverish because I'm hot all over."

"Of course." Even as they spoke, Reeva ran a gentle swab over the first patch of raw skin,
her own fingers soaked in oil to offset the salve's effects. This was going to be a *long* job, and she didn't like the
look of some of the worst of it. "Does the heat vary? Have you felt chills?
Is your head merely sore.." She was willing to bet the woman did have a
headache. "Or does it seem to pulse? Also, does any of the burn itch?
Like a? rash?" Why she was asking, she wasn't too sure. If the woman *didn't*
have some degree of sun poisoning she'd be surprised. But she was thorough.

"Yes my head hurts and I'm getting very sleepy, but that might be some of your stuff working too." It was
cool where she put the stuff on, but Rhosyn didn't think that's what she was asking. "It doesn't itch so
much as just burn like crazy."

Reeva surrendered. The Weyrwoman hadn't really answered her question, but she doubted it was strictly
necessary. Quick fingers finished the woman's back, gently dressing some of the worst of
the burn. "Allow that to dry a moment, then we can finish the rest," she said softly.

"You will need to drink, lady- and water, not wine. Plenty of it. I will leave you some other painkillers, for the
burn, but they need to be respected and not overused. Your activities will have to be limited."

"Oh believe me, I'm not going anywhere." Sighing, Rhosyn's eyes began to droop. "Reeva, I'm going to find
someone to look in on me, but you're probably going to have to come every so often I imagine. Can you
leave instructions for whoever I find?" Spread eagle on the bed, Rhosyn did start to shiver then as the air hit her.

"Hmm..." The noise was non-committal. For a few days, Reeva would not be
comfortable handing over the duties needed at all, at least till they
saw what damage might further present itself.

"Yes, when we are sure how bad it develops to be. Do you have a light
robe, or something soft you don't mind messing? I would suggest you
sleep for a while, then eat- and be sure to take in liquids, as I've mentioned."

"There should be a wrap hanging on the clothes chest over on the right,"
Rhosyn answered quickly.

Spotting the garment, Reeva handed it over. "Now sleep, Weyrwoman. Rest
well and relax. It may be tedious and frustrating, but it's an injury that will pass
with time. Should you need me, I am of course at your disposal."

"Thank you Reeva." As she said that, she drifted off.
