K'deren

Cyradis came back to her empty weyr after checking on Panitath and the
progress of the eggs. She lifted the covers and smile to see two
plates and one of K'deren's favorite dishes included for dinner. She
thought the cook must have taken the initiative because she certainly
hadn't ordered it.

"K'deren," she called, wondering if he were here already. The children
were with their foster mothers tonight and she hoped to have a nice
relaxing evening.

"I'm here," he answered. A smile crossed his face as he saw her. "How's
Panitath?"

"She's finally starting to relax," she said and one hand rose to her
own neck to massage a kink. "She makes me tired when she is first
clutching." Cyradis walked over to him and sat on the arm of his
chair. "What are you reading?"

"Something Trievan wrote," he lifted up the hide. The boy had drawn a
picture of children playing and written a story about it. "He's doing well
in his classes and the Harper thinks he may have a talent for it."

She leaned over to get a good view and read the child's hand. "Oh,"
she said when she finished. "That really _is_ good" She smiled and
brushed a few hairs out of K'deren's eyes. "Come on then. It looks
like dinner is ready."

"And we mustn't let it get cold." The hide was set aside as he got to his
feet and offered her a hand. "After you."

"No," she smiled warmly and took his hand. She walked back toward the
table and lifted the covers before slipping into her seat.

"Looks good, who did you bribe in the kitchen for this feast?"

"Our Qorri can be a wonderful conspirator when properly motivated,"
she grinned. "I am now going to ply you with an especially fine bottle
of wine I got from my uncle." She lifted the bottle and handed it to
him to pour for them both.

K'deren took a moment after pouring to raise the glass and inhale. "This
really is good," he said after a long moment. "I could get used to this."

"It helps to have relatives in the craft," she smiled. She was
secretly delighted by his good taste and knowledge of a fine vintage.
That was something her former Weyrmate had never shared with her. She
picked up her own glass to savor the fine red. Deep ruby picked by
amber highlights floated around the swirl of the glass.

She leaned forward, "K'deren, I hope you know how very much I care for you."

"And I care for you too," he leaned forward too, reaching out to take her
hand. "So very much."

She squeeze his fingers lightly. "I know how it might seem to
outsiders looking in but there are times when I just don't know how to
say what I really want to say. So, I guess I'll just blurt it out if
you don't mind?"

"Not at all," K'deren smiled at his lover as she spoke. "You can always say
what you feel with me. I'm going to listen."

"I know," she said with a soft smile. "I'd never thought I could feel
this again," she started. Her eyes dipped to her glass and she took a
sip before setting it aside and reaching for his hand with that one
too. "I have to have that for the rest of my life," she said softly.
"If you will," her eyes glowed at his. "I'd like you to move here with
Deralie and Trievan. Would you Weyrmate with me K'deren?"

"Yes," he said. The brownrider let go of her hands and got to his feet to
move next to her and kiss her. Gently at first, then he let all his feelings
show, answering her in the best way he knew how.

A flood of happiness filled her at his simple reply and she responded
to the kiss as ardently as he bestowed it on her. When they finally
pulled apart she lifted a hand to caress the side of his face. "I love
you," she said.

"I love you too."
