}:The hatchling is here:{ Orlaith informed her rider and Rhosyn found
herself glad that mother and child seemed to be doing well. She waited a few
days but then went down to find Briata and offer her congratulations. Besides,
she did want a peek at the little thing. Would it be special too?
"Why hello Rhosyn." Briata greeted the Weyrwoman with a smile as soon as
the door was open. In one arm she cradled a little bundle who was, for the
moment, sound asleep. For someone who'd had a child only a few days
prior, she seemed well put together. Her hair was back in a
braid and she had color in her cheeks. "Please, come in."
The baby was quiet so Rhosyn took the hint and spoke softly
herself as she entered. "You're looking healthy. And the
child?" She didn't know its name or what it was so she couldn't
address it properly.
"Doing well, thank you. His name's Brigel." Briata smiled as if she had read the
Weyrwoman's mind. She motioned to a chair, inviting her to sit down before she did
so herself. "You're very kind to visit."
"A son! He looks healthy enough." She sat down and crossed her legs.
Rhosyn didn't reach for the baby or make any moves. The Weyrwoman wasn't exactly
kid-friendly. "I'm sure Y'gel is pleased."
"Yes, he is." Briata shifted the child so the Weyrwoman could get a
better look at him. A full head of dark hair was stark against pale
skin. It was impossible to tell what colour his eyes were for they were
shut tight against the world. "Would you like to hold him?"
"Oh no, he seems all right and I'd hate to wake him up." In reality, she
could just see it in her mind. **Weyrwoman breaks baby** Rhosyn did
look at him though, wondering what he could possibly be when he grew
up. "So are you going to foster the babe or raise him yourself?" With
Briata's crafting, that was a certain decision. Of course, if he was fostered,
it was Rhosyn's duty to see that it was with the right fosterparent.
Briata turned her gaze down to her son as one finger lightly caressed
the side of his tiny face. "As much as I love my craft, I want to raise my own child.
So I will do that." That didn't mean she couldn't continue to create, it just meant
she wouldn't officially be a crafter or take classes. That, however, was a sacrifice she would happily make for her child.
"Very well. Are you going to live here then for a bit? Or should I tell Solieira to find you
some quarters? You know...if you aren't going to craft, Briata, you could be a fostermother
yourself once he gets older." There was always a need for women to take
on the Weyr's children and Rhosyn was always looking for them.
"I'm going to stay with Y'gel for a while." Briata smiled at the
Weyrwoman's suggestion. "Actually, that was something I thought about.
It is something I am considering." To her, the most important thing
was her child.
"Ah well if you make a decision, let me know. It's certainly always a need."
Rhosyn knew it was more of one during a Pass but there was no need to voice
that fact or the whys of it. "Well I'm very glad you've had a healthy son. I'll let
you rest, but if you need anything, just let one of the drudges know. We
take care of our possible future riders." She gave a wink before standing, taking
one last look at the baby.
