Description: The Weyrwoman tells the Weyrleader about the eggs.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 2 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Y'gel, Lenala, D'ren, M'galec
After seeing the eggs, Rhosyn knew she had to tell K'sedel. That way
no matter what Y'gel thought, they would be ready if something happened.
So she headed to the Bowl where the Weyrleader was supposed to be holding
drills. The wing was still up in the air so she picked a rock and
waited.
}:Nikornath, mine would like to share news with yours when he is done:{
Orlaith shared from where she was prodding a blue who had gotten too close for
comfort.
}:Tell her I won't be long,:{ came the reply from Nikornath.
}:He comes shortly:{ came the relay which Rhosyn acknowledged mentally
before stretching out her legs on the rock. "Time to shave again. Pfftt.."
Annoyed, she put her legs back down, covering them up with her skirt.
Moments later, the Weyrleader arrived. "Orlaith told Nikornath you wanted to
talk?"
"Aye, about the eggs. I went to see them today." She gave him a look that
said it was bad news, though not an emergency. "Vilarth did fine but there is
one...Y'gel will have to look at it."
"Oh?" An eyebrow was lifted as the question was asked.
"It's off color. It's hardening like the rest but...Vilarth is
sensing something wrong and she's keeping it away from the others. I'm not
sure about it." As usual if it didn't hatch, it'd be taken /between/, but
Rhosyn was worried. What if it did hatch?
"There's no guarantee that something is definitely wrong," K'sedel said,
thinking aloud. "What does Lenala say?"
"The same thing-she is going to get Y'gel to look at it. She's unsure," Rhosyn
bit her lip. At this stage of the game, it was critical to keep Lenala's confidence up.
What if something went wrong at the hatching? She couldn't have a disaster
on her hands. Whatever it was, they had to minimize the risk.
"Then we need to wait until he's had a look." K'sedel's words may have been
delivered with an even tone, but he could feel a small worry forming. If the
egg didn't hatch, well someone, usually the clutch's sire had the sad
responsibility of taking it /between/ forever.
"Mm..I know, I just thought you should know. And be thinking about it. See
the thing is...I've started Lenala's training and she has a major confidence
issue. If something happens-it could ruin everything and her." Rhosyn sighed and
hid her mouth behind her left hand. She knew there was nothing they could do at this
stage, but it felt better to share all of her thoughts and worries with K'sedel.
"I'm sure you'll cope. Sometimes people need some tough lessons. I'm almost
wondering if everything has been coated with too much sweetener in the past
for her."
"That's some of it. The rest is no one really paid much attention to her.
She was allowed to float along." Her irritation was clear. This wasn't her mess,
but she would clean it up. "We're making some progress though, at least. Her
getting away from M'galec helped things."
"What do you know about the young lad who's bronze caught her?" K'sedel
asked. "Is he likely to be a good influence or not?"
"He seems like a good kid, but I don't think he's old enough and
experienced to be able to handle Lenala." Like it or not, the woman knew
how to bat her eyes for the men. Scratching her chin, she considered.
"He's in your wing, isn't he? How is he for you?"
"He pulls his weight, seems to be settling in well, but I don't know an
awful lot about him yet, other than what is in his records," admitted
K'sedel.
"Hmm..well I'm going to sit down with them and talk about how a hatching
goes since it's his first and make sure everything is settled. Maybe it'll reduce
the chances of something odd happening." Scratching her knuckles, she moved
a bit to get out of the sun by standing in his shadow.
"I'm sure it'll be fine. I hear good things about some of the candidates."
Of course it helped that his granddaughter was standing, having finally
decided she wanted to try. "Reyela is looking forward to it."
"I'm hoping she'll come away with something, but if she doesn't manage on
her first try, that'll be allright too. Maybe we'll get a gold egg next
time." Thinking she was ready for lunch and he probably was too since he'd
just finished drills, she put her hand on his arm. "I just thought you should
know about that. We'll see what develops. For now, though, I'm hungry. You want
to have lunch?"
"Why not?" It wouldn't hurt the Weyr to see them eating together.
