Y'gel strode across the weyrbowl and into the hatching cavern. Vilarth
was nearing her time and lay egg heavy in the mouth of her Weyr. There
was nothing that quite brought out the pride and hope in him as one of
the huge golden queens heavy with her clutch about to be laid on the
hot sands. **Well maybe the eggs themselves.**

"Lenala," he called as he crossed toward Vilarth. He bowed to her and
waited for her rider.

"Yes?" Lenala emerged from her weyr. She gave Y'gel a smile. "That time
again, Weyrdragonhealer?" She went to stand next to Vilarth's head and
she lowered it for her to scratch the eyeridge.

**They sure make a pretty picture** Y'gel smiled. He had known Lenala
long enough that the picture was to be appreciated but it didn't
attract him to a deeper knowledge of the gold rider. "She's close from
the look of it. May I come close?" He asked for as politely as
possible.

"Sure, she won't mind, will you?" Lenala replied. The gold snorted.

For all her egg heavy bulk, Vilarth was still a beautiful and
impressive sight. "I'm honored," he smiled. Then nearing the gold he
asked. "Is she feeling well?"

"Except her mood and general discomfort caused by the eggs, she's
fine," Lenala replied. "She's terribly cranky," she flashed a smile.

"Ah yes," he smiled back at the beautiful rider. After all these turns
he was fairly familiar with the Weyr's queens and their temperaments
when clutching. Vilarth looked about ready to begin delivering her
clutch any day. He bowed before he laid a hand on her flank to feel
the bulges of her eggs. Of course he also kept an eye on the whirling
eyes. He knew she wouldn't hurt him but he didn't want to distress or
upset her so near term.

Vilarth gave out a deep draconic sigh so that the dragon healer would
know she was only tolerating his ministrations, not enjoying it.

Y'gel didn't laugh out loud but he did smile and tried to finish as
quickly as possible. Her tolerance of him was fragile and he knew it.
"There," he said finally. "All done." He turned back to Lenala. "I
think she'll begin laying very soon."

Lenala nodded. "I thought so too, if from nothing else but the way her
mood has deteriorated lately," she grinned a bit.

"Well from what I can tell," he smiled. "There's a generous clutch in
there. She was flown well." He nodded as he was speaking. He realized
this hadn't always been the case and wanted to reassure the lovely
gold rider.

"Yes, it was a good flight," Lenala replied, swirling a lock of her
hair around her finger and giving Y'gel a flirty look. It was habit
mostly. Y'gel wasn't quite her type, too old. Still, she might end up with
him after some Flight, so it didn't hurt to keep his interest up.

Y'gel recognized the look and smiled as his eyes slid back to his
patient. He was a little flattered but didn't realistically believe
she'd follow through with him. It was pretty standard for gold riders
to keep all the bronzers in the vicinity at least a little hopeful.
Now in his younger days he'd had plenty of opportunities, but those
days were mostly in the past.

"She's doing very well and with her experience, I doubt there will be
any issues. But if anything seems at all difficult for her, call me."
Of course he meant for the rider to have hers relay the message
through Aug. He'd be there in moments. After all the Dragon healing
cavern wasn't all that far from the hatching grounds.

"I sure do. Her well being is after all my first priority," Lenala
replied. Too bad he wasn't younger, like D'ren's age, she thought.

Y'gel smiled and patted her arm. "I know. You take very good care of
her Lenala." That was one thing Y'gel never worried about with
Vilarth. Her rider took very good care of the gold and it showed in
the gleaming well oiled hide. Of course there was more of her to oil
right now that she was egg heavy. No matter what others might think
of the gold rider, she was quite attentive to her lifemate and that
was what was most important to the big Dragonhealer.

"Thanks Y'gel," Lenala grinned.
