Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 16 of Turn 6
"Hello Master Y'gel. I've brought Menanth for his annual." The bronze
was perfectly healthy, but it was important to have regular exams.
}:Of course I am healthy. How else would I fly a queen?:{
D'ren rolled his eyes. The bronze was still smug about it.
"Right on time too," said the big dragonhealer. He liked that about
the young bronzerider. He didn't take advantage of others, and hadn't
let his lifemate's recent success go to his head. "Any complaints?"
"Yeah, his ego has gotten too big," D'ren joked.
Y'gel chuckled and winked at the other rider. "What do you expect?
He's bronze!" He turned to the big dragon. "Let's see your mouth." He
always started looking at gums and teeth. There was much that could be
detected early in the color and condition in a dragons mouth.
Menanth opened his mouth for the healer. }:My ego is not too big. It
is perfectly-sized like the rest of me.:{
Y'gel reached into the dragons mouth to look and the gums and teeth.
"Looking good," he commented. Then he moved to the side and ran his
hands over the dragon's chest muscles and one after the other each of
his legs. "Any tenderness in his claws from landings?"
"No, sir. I've told him to make sure to tell me if he has any pain."
He knew dragons sometimes ignored little problems until they became
worse. Rather like people, actually.
"Good, good," he said even though he was preoccupied with the
examination of a lifted wing. He saw only very healthy and well cared
for hide wherever he looked. He made quick work of running his hands
over muscles and didn't feel anything amiss. That is until he got near
the tail fork. "Uh... is he evacuating normally?"
"Yes. I mean, as far as I know."
"His tail feels a little firm, so I was just wondering. But over all
he looks very healthy." Y'gel was very pleased when he found nothing
to caution over and a dragon obviously healthy and under great care
from his rider. "Looks like you're doing everything right. Any
questions?
**Are you relieving yourself regularly?** D'ren asked his dragon.
}:Yes. I go when I need to. I will need to soon.:{
D'ren relaxed. "He says he'll need to, um, evacuate soon. So maybe
he's a little full." He patted the bronze's flank. "Had me worried
there for a second."
"I just take extra special care of a bronze who's just won a gold
flight," Y'gel winked at D'ren. Of course he'd checked by looking over
the bronze right after the flight. There could be injuries both
dragons ignored at the time but both Vilarth and Menarth seemed to
have been in almost perfect health. He'd have more contact with
Vilarth as her clutch developed.
Y'gel had high hopes for this clutch. The bronze was young and
vigorus, he couldn't help but wish for a gold egg on the sands.
Especially with his daughter Gelira Standing at the hatchings.
The young bronzerider smiled. "I can still hardly believe it. Menanth
will have hatchlings soon!"
"Indeed he will!" Y'gel was proud of the young bronzerider. If things
had gone differently in their training perhaps Aug would have been a
sire by now. "You should be very proud"
"I am. I'm glad I made the choice to move here." Things were looking
much brighter.
"We're glad too," replied the Weyrdragonhealer as he stepped away.
"Another health young bronze is a great addition to the Weyr." He
turned to wash his hands. "You're all set."
"Thank you, sir."
