Cyradis

Cyradis

Cyradis had spent the whole night tossing and turning and when she got
up the next morning she kissed the man in her bed, then mounted up and
set Panitath toward River Bluff. It wasn't long until they were in
contact with the watchrider and spiraling into the Weyr Bowl.

}:Wake up:{ came Orlaith's voice to intrude upon Rhosyn's sleepy
dreams. **Hmm?** she answered slowly, but fought against waking.
}:Panitath is here:{ the senior gold announced, putting weight behind
her statement. **What? Why?** If something had happened, she would
have thought she'd be seeing R'enh or N'vanik, but Cyradis...

Rolling over, she climbed out of bed. **Tell them they can land here,
but it'll be a few moments** Walking around to find a dress she could
slip over her head, she flipped a switch to turn the lights on.

Usually Rhosyn had warning before another goldrider arrived at her Weyr,
but it was no problem really since her headwoman could get things organized
without much notice. Putting her order into the kitchens, she wandered over to
her sitting area and waited while yawning.

They waited for a few to give the other Weyrwoman some time and
meanwhile Cyradis tried to think of a way to tell the River Bluff
Weyrwoman the news. But she finally gave the word and Panitath landed
near Orlaith. She slid off and bowed her head politely to the Weyr's
senior gold.

"Rhosyn," she called.

Orlaith's whirling eyes were blue as she watched Cyradis pass quietly. A small
welcome rumble emitted from her at the sight of Panitath, but the large gold was
sleepy so she didn't much more than that.

"Aye in here." She knew her weyr was laid out differently from
Cyradis' from past visits. It was larger, though the private bathing
chamber and Records Room were similar. Her small private council room
was something she enjoyed, though. "Welcome to River Bluff. To what do I
owe the pleasure?" Her long hair was free flowing for once and looked a bit
disheveled, but she didn't seem bothered by it.

"Rhosyn," she nodded to the younger woman. She momentarily envied the
electricity but then shook it off. Now wasn't the time to get
sidetracked. "I'm sorry to wake you but felt I needed to come
personally. First of all, he'll be fine. But I had to come and let you
know that N'vanik was injured in the Fall yesterday."

That was not what she had expected. Several things went through
Rhosyn's mind at that moment and most of them flashed across her face.
First was worry. **If he was really hurt, Loseth or Mnoranth would
have said something.** Then the anxiety switched to something more
resembling curiosity. Cyradis had come herself-here. From her talks
with others, she knew the woman didn't care for N'vanik
that way so she had come here for Rhosyn's sake. That said a lot.

Loosening her grip on the edge of the table, she gestured for Cyradis
to sit if she wanted. "What happened?"

She took a deep cleansing breath and let it out slowly as she took the
offered seat. "Well, it was the blooding and a weyrling got scored."
She shook her head. "Loseth was in position to catch and took it. But
the wind must have blown her a little wrong because the green hit
N'vanik."

"The green hit N'vanik and what.... Did Loseth fall?" Maybe that was
why he hadn't told her anything-the dragon was hurt. If he was hurt
and badly and Panitath rose.... Her thoughts immediately went into
overdrive, then she paused to let Cyradis finish her story.

"No," she rubbed her hands together at the though of what _could_ have
happened. "Loseth maintained control and got the pair to the ground
safely. We, Panitath and I, came right behind. The green and her rider
were out. Luckily though N'vanik has suffered an injury he should be
fine. His Wingsecond R'enh finished leading the wing for the rest of
the Fall."

"Hmm..." She had expected that. So it was a minor injury and he should be
fine. R'enh was all right and it seemed that the only real issue was with the
weyrling, which wasn't a concern of hers. "How is Sh'del taking it?" Now that
her friend was weyrlingmaster, she wondered.

"Sorry, I don't know. Everything is still sorting itself out." She
shrugged. "I felt it best to bring this to you personally. I know you
and N'vanik are close." It wasn't accusatory, just a statement of fact.

Just then the food arrived and Rhosyn was quiet as it was set out then
she thanked the drudge and waited until the woman exited. She grabbed
a few bits and chewed while she thought things over. "I appreciate it.
He's...We're very good friends. R'enh, N'vanik, Sh'del, and I are all
from the same place. It's hard sometimes with me being the only one
who isn't at Dolphin Cove, but I have my responsibilities here." She
offered Cyradis a plate. "How are you?"

"I'll be fine," she said taking the plate and some of the food. "It's
just the uncertainty. I hope once I'm confirmed things will smooth out
some."

"I had that too. Of course no one wanted Lenala to be Weyrwoman.." She
chuckled lightly. "I suspect it's the same with you. Jyramikah did it before.."
Not exactly the best situation at the time, it had been necessary. "Honestly,
it's just going to take time with him. Once he figures out you're staying, it'll
work itself out. I think it would have been okay if they had just left him, but
leaving the Weyr like they did and everyone with it, that made him angrier
than anything else. Course it made me angry too."

Cyradis smiled in response. She'd heard some unflattering things about
Lenala but the gold had risen recently so there would soon be eggs on
the sands. So she was doing her duty in that much at least. "Well I
hope he figures it out pretty soon," she said softly. "I'm sure it
made many people angry. But, I'm not leaving however long it takes him
to believe it."

"Good woman," she said before bringing her legs up under her and
sipping a bit of klah. "Kinda nice not to have to uncover glow baskets
when someone visits late. I'm pretty much into the law of least effort
at that point. That is one reason why I came to River Bluff." Indeed,
the creature comforts probably had her spoiled. "How are your children
finding things?"

"Yes," Cyradis laughed at the not so subtle dig. "Well I plan on
remedying that issue soon enough." She had been slowly moving her pet
project along and planned to use the time when Panitath was egg heavy
to put much of it into motion. "They seem to have settled in fairly
well," she smiled. "Of course it helps that we've formed a nice little
family group with K'deren and his kids." She was pretty certain Rhosyn
would know about that.

"You plan on remedying it how?" That got her curious and she set her
klah down after a long drink of the hot liquid. Her eyes followed
Cyradis, thinking. "K'deren.. I've met him a few times of course, but
I know his father and brothers a lot better. Glad you made a friend.
He has a daughter who's Standing. K'sedel introduced me to her.." She
tried to go through the connections in her brain as she reached for
one of the small pieces of bread to gnaw on.

"Well," she started, "We have plenty of power and could supplement
with another geothermal generator. There is no reason we couldn't have
electricity throughout Dolphin Cove." She reached for a very nice
looking redfruit.

"It's going to take a long time to build that sort of thing......and
we don't have the luxury of the Long Interval they had before." In
Rhosyn's mind, threadfall came first. "What does N'vanik say?"

"Yes it is," she smiled. "But we won't get anywhere unless we start.
Right?" She continued to smile. "N'vanik likes the plan actually." She
knew Rhosyn had some connection to N'vanik which was why she'd come
personally in the first place. Call it professional courtesy, from one
goldrider to another.

It wasn't her Weyr so she didn't bother sharing the rest of her opinion.
At least it seemed they might be working together on this one thing. "Well
whenever you get your technicians on board, they're more than welcome to
come here and make notes." She noted the bottle that had come with everything.
"Oh, this might interest you. Our vintners here are pressing a vintage for us."

"Oh?" She smiled. This was a subject she could warm up to. "What kind
of vintage?"

"Red for now and they've been doing some ale and quikal. Of course
none of it is aged just yet. Out of each pressing, we get so much in
tithe to use at hatchings and hand out to friends of the Weyr." She
turned the bottle over. It was much too early for her to be drinking
any wine so she stuck to her klah but she offered it to Cyradis if she
wanted.

"I wouldn't mind a taste," she smiled. "Though it's still a bit early."

Rhosyn grabbed a glass and poured some into it, then stoppered the
bottle again. She gave Cyradis the glass, waiting to see what she
thought. Either way, the Weyrwoman was happy to have such a resource,
though she knew it would take time for production to be what it could.

Cyradis lifted the glass to the light and swirled it. The color was
lovely so she lowered the glass for a sniff. "Hmm," she took a small
taste and sucked some air into her mouth as she swirled it around.

"What is that, blackberry and a hint of citron?" She took a full sip
and nodded. "Very nice."

"I'll be sure to tell Blayre you said that. He'll be pleased. You can take
the bottle if you want. A swap for the citron stuff you gave me." Her eyes
lit at mention of that. "Anyway, I'm sure you have work to be doing and I
will probably drop by once he's okay enough for visitors. As it is, though,
I probably need to get to bed. Can't sleep in since my Second has an egg
heavy dragon."

Cyradis nodded. She certainly understood that much. "I'm sure he'll
want to see you," she smiled and picked up the bottle. "Thanks." She
stood and turned to leave but then turned back. "I'm sorry the
circumstances and timing were off, but I enjoyed our visit."

Soon she was climbing back up on Panitath to return to Dolphin Cove.
