Description: R'sedel finds a new spark of life
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 9, day 2 of Turn 3
R'sedel sauntered out of his father's office and wandered down the hall in the general direction of his half-brother, K'reyel's, weyr. He had promised his father he would stop by and visit, meet Mai, his new Weyrmate. It had surprised him as much that his half-brother had settled with one woman as it did that they were actually trying to _reproduce_! **Now that will be a sight to see... K'reyel a father...**
It had been good to see his father. They really didn't see enough of each other. Though he had not been one of the offspring of K'sedel's weyrmate, he had never felt out of place or unloved with his rather large family. His mother never had any other children, nor had his foster mother, and so they were his only brothers and sisters. His father had taken an active interest in his life as much as he could, and R'sedel had never felt in the least slighted in not having been raised his K'sedel's weyr. In fact, it had almost felt liberating in a way. He could have his family when he wished, and his independence as well.
The independence was not just the freedom to do as he wished, but also an independence of life-style and emotional attachments. R'sedel had been different from his siblings - he laughed more, he lounged more, and his own humble opinion, enjoyed life more. He was more like his mother, personality wise at least, than his father. Perhaps that was also why he felt free to live wherever he pleased. While most of his brothers and sisters stayed close to home, or even followed his father from Weyr to Weyr, R'sedel had felt free to wander. He had moved around a bit, finally settling in Rising Moon with his special bluerider friend, S'hal. Things had soured with S'hal, but he had felt at home there. But lately, R'sedel felt his wunderlust stirring again. Perhaps that had been why he had agreed to help River Bluff find candidates. It was something _new_. Only part of the reason had been to help out his father. Mostly it was the chance to get out of Rising Moon.
That realization brought a slight frown to the greenrider's face as he continued down the corridor. He paused at the foot of a flight of stairs leading up to what he assumed was where the rider on Watch Duty sat. R'sedel was at a moment of decision. He could continue on and get his meeting with K'reyel over with, which was appealing since for some reason he had never been able to see eye to eye with his half-brother, or he could avoid it a bit and do a little exploring. His natural curiosity and desire to avoid uncomfortable situations won out in the end and he slowly climbed the stairs.
He breathed in the warm fresh sea air as he stepped out into the late afternoon sunlight. **It's warm here, even in winter. Isn't _that_ a welcome change!**
}:Yes, I can sit in the sun and be so warm! And there are so many handsome bronzes to lay next to, :{ Eniidith crooned happily. There was nothing his little green loved better than to be surrounded by handsome men. Like dragon, like rider.
Speaking of handsome men... "Hello, there. I take it you're on Watch Duty today?" R'sedel took a few lazy steps towards the rider leaning against his brown in the warm sunlight. Brown... too bad.
"Yes, I am. Can I help you?" the rider asked he sat up to inspect the newcomer.
**Such nice muscles... Shards, why is he a brown.** "Oh, I was just exploring a bit. I brought in a couple candidates for your upcoming Hatching and I thought I would see what there is to see up here."
"Well, come take a look for yourself. This is probably the prettiest view in the Weyr," the brownrider smiled as he absently scratched his lifemates neck.
R'sedel walked over and took in the view. "Shards..." he breathed. He was accustomed to seeing beautiful sights from high above. It was something he had taken for granted, really. But there was something to be said for having both feet planted firmly on the ground and taking in a scene like that. A great river sparkled a gleamed, practically dancing down the valley below on its way to join with the great sea beyond, where dragons and people frolicked in the waves. And there were so many people crossing the bridges between the Weyr and the roofs of the crafthuts beyond. They looked so small from this height, but they were all going somewhere and doing something.
"There's so much _life_ down there..." The greenrider whispered. His voice was filled with awe.
"That there is," the brownrider agreed. "We live well here in River Bluff. Warm sands, warm people, all the craft stalls we could ever need... I came from a colder Weyr myself, originally. But I came here one day as a messenger and... Well, I couldn't leave."
So many people from so many walks of life - crafters, dragonriders, weyrfolk, seafolk, traders, all blending together like ingedients in a fine stew, adding their own unique flavor and texture to the mix. It was exciting, exhilerating! Where did they all come from? And where were they all going? Rising Moon was filled with people too, but their faces and their lives were all blended together in a bland mass. His life at Rising Moon had grown predictable, stagnant. Suddenly R'sedel felt interested and curious. These people were new, different, _alive_.
He wanted to meet them. He wanted to get to know them. He wanted to be a part of them. A slight smile spread across his face as the spark of idea began to grow in intensity in his mind. "So, do you think River Bluff could use another Searchrider?"
The brownrider smiled knowingly. "I don't know. You'd have to ask the Weyrleader."
"Yes," R'sedel nodded as his eyes turned back to the scene below. "Yes, I think I shall."
