Bahji paced nervously along the shore of the lake, her
arms crossed nervously around her midsection. Second
thoughts danced in her head. Was she being too forward?
Would he be shocked? Could she actually tell him what she?d
been thinking?
Was she a bad person for wanting what he offered?
She shook her head, taking deep breaths despite the nervous
tumbling of her stomach. Honestly, if she hadn?t been blind,
she probably would have been married by now anyway. So why
let her eyes stop her from what she should have already been
doing? She?d never let them stop her before. Her chin lifted
and she spun around to begin pacing back the other way.
It took him awhile to finish bathing, dry off, get dressed, and run
his acrid clothes by the laundry. It was going to be time for dinner
soon, but he had a certain little blind girl to rendezvous with before
that. And so he did. It wasn't hard to spot her so E'rae walked up
behind her in his sandals. "You rang?"
At the sound of his voice, Bahji spun around to face E'rae,
a flush high on her cheeks? One brow arched. "No. I don't
have a bell." She stopped and shifted on her feet before
trying to figure out how to let him know. She sucked in her
lower lip and took another step towards him, hand outstretched
in an effort to draw herself closer to him. "I wanted to talk
to you."
"Allright, talk." He took her hand and walked her around the edge of
the Bowl in case anyone was being nosy. Not that E'rae's business was
all that exciting usually.
Her voice was soft as she gripped his hand. "You said you could
teach me things." Her flush deepened as she struggled to find
the right words before she gave up on tact and just sputtered
them out. "I want to learn. Everything." She swallowed and stopped
walking, just gripping his hand as she bit her lower lip
and waited for his response.
Achieving his goal had probably felt just as good on a few other occasions
of his life. Right then he couldn't remember the rest of them. Squeezing her
hand once, he rubbed his face with his free hand. "And when would you like
to start?"
Her jaw dropped and she floundered for a moment, then spoke honestly.
"I don't know." She gripped his hand. "I don't know anything about this."
"Well...you know my schedule. I'm up early and I usually don't have freetime
until after dinner unless it's a restday." It was indeed true. He also knew
she would likely be sharing quarters with someone else as an unranked
resident of the Lower Caverns.
"I know." Bahji was obviously flustered as she tugged on her earlobe. Was
this the sort of thing one just scheduled? Frustration gnawed at her as she
took a deep breath. Everything else had just kind of happened spontaneously
so far. "I guess just when you have time." She finished lamely.
Grinning, E'rae considered that. She hadn't thought very far ahead then.
Innocents never did. It was better for him to get there first before someone
that wouldn't care. "I have time after dinner or we could wait for another
day."
Bahji couldn't help the slight stubborn pout that formed on her lips. She'd
just made the choice to learn and she didn't want to wait. "Then go
eat." She wasn't in the slightest bit hungry; her wild nerves were
making sure that food was the last thing on her mind.
"Since you don't know where my weyr is, where shall I pick you up then?"
And Faranth knew he couldn't have her wandering haphazardly around the
Weyr.
"Your weyr...." Bahji paled at the thought of being taken to an unfamiliar
place. She had to pause. "Only your dragon can get there, right?"
"That's right," he answered. E'rae was on the upper side of the face of the
cliff. It meant a beautiful view but he was so high that steps weren't
really preferred.
Good, there was no chance of her losing her way; she relaxed a little
and exhaled. Bahji gripped his hand and nodded. "Okay," her voice
dropped to a whisper. "But please don't take terribly long. " Her lips
lifted. "I don't want to think myself out of this."

He'd eaten a little bit more than usual at dinner both due to his exertions
earlier and the thought of his exertions to come. He was still wondering
just how this was going to work but others had figured it out so he was sure
it would. Getting her wasn't a problem and he waited until Leith had touched
down proper to move. "Let me unstrap you and I can carry you down. Wouldn't be
good to trip."
Her first dragon ride had thrilled Bahji. Just the feel of the wind, even
for just a short amount of time had her wanting to repeat the experience.
Her heart pounding, she waited until E'rae had unstrapped her and clutched at
him as she was brought down to the stone floor of his weyr. "That was wonderful!
Thank you, Leith. You're so lucky to be able to do that everyday, E'rae."
The dragon's noise could be heard as he waited for the rider to remove his
straps. E'rae didn't like the idea of leaving her there so close to the edge
of the ledge while he tended to his chore so the bluerider led her inside. "Okay,
we're on the ledge now.. going into the weyr. I'm a bluerider so it isn't much but River
Bluff has more amenities than some of the others. You're standing in the middle. All
the furniture is against the walls. My desk and chair to your left, a wardrobe, a foot
locker, a table and chairs, then the bed. There are a few cabinets and shelves on the wall
for storage." Bringing her to one of the chairs, he stopped. "The chair is here...I need
to tend to Leith if it's alright?"
She followed him, paying attention to what he was describing and etching
it in his mind. She let him lead her to his chair and sat carefully. "Go
ahead. Don't let me keep you from him." She was fidgety, growing a little
more nervous about what exactly would happen after he was done with
Leith. She took several deep breaths, trying to calm the fluttery feeling
in her chest.
He made the usual noises as he worked to get the straps off his blue, hang
them, and then give Leith a good rubbing where the straps had made his hide
a bit itchy. When he was finished, his boots echoed along the stone before
he sat and began to untie them. "So what exactly do you know about how this
works again?" It might be good to explain any mechanical questions first.
"Uh...." She heard the thump of his boots and flushed before taking another
deep breath. "Well...my mother explained exactly what happens." She
cleared her throat and tugged at her ears, fumbling as she
explained what exactly her mother had said, which was the very basic
physical interactions and what went where.
"Well that's a start. I think to begin, it would probably be good to let you
get used to the idea of touching me before I touch you. To let you see why a
man is different and how that translates into reality." He moved to sit down
on the floor at her feet. "It'll be easier down here." There was a rug covering
the stone, though it wasn't cold thanks to the Weyr's heating system.
