N'vanik

N'vanik

When Vilarth had made it clear she was ready to mate, Rhosyn had
grabbed the few things she could and gotten quickly out of the Weyr.
On the one hand, she was glad the Weyr would have eggs again soon.
She was also glad it wasn't going to be her that was grounded this
time. Hopefully the flight would go well. Pushing her queen /between/
before the gold could get any ideas about staying around and starting
a fight, it was no surprise where they came out at. Unfortunately, where
her Weyr had been in the day, this Weyr was at night.

She was also probably going to be waking someone up no matter which
ledge she landed on. Thinking of R'enh, Sh'del, and N'vanik she was a bit
indecisive as her queen circled above Dolphin Cove, letting the watchdragon
know quietly why they had come. R'enh would probably be alone, as would
Sh'del. N'vanik she didn't know for certain about, though. Remembering that
other awkward moment before with Talryne, she had no wish to repeat it.

So for the moment she just landed in the Bowl, wide awake while everyone
else was sleeping. It was sort of nice. Sitting atop Orlaith's tall
neck, she looked
up at the sky. The moons and the stars were scattered and she tried to begin
naming each one-something she had done when they were using them to learn
how to /between/. Everything was quiet, though she knew from experience the
Lower Caverns was wide awake since this was when they did their cooking-when
it was cool.

Loseth mentally nudged his rider awake. }:Orlaith and hers are here. They're
waiting in the Bowl.:{

N'vanik blinked into the darkness and tried to shake off sleep. **Why?** he
asked, a little worried. It was the middle of the night, so he
wondered if something
was wrong.

}:Vilarth is rising so they had to leave.:{

That woke him up more. Rhosyn could've gone anywhere, but she chose to
come here. He turned to check on Talryne, who was sound asleep. They
were in her weyr tonight. **Invite them up. I'll be there in a minute.**

}:Loseth says his is awake:{ Orlaith told her rider as she listened to Rhosyn
recite the star names. It soothed the queen, making her forget that Vilarth
was claiming her males at home. **Well let's go over there then**

With her rider strapped in atop her back, Orlaith did something that queens were
not often seen to do. Instead of flying over to the Weyrleader's ledge, the gold
walked there on all fours. As large as she was, it didn't take long,
but it looked a
bit funny. After climbing the stone, she settled as Rhosyn worked to
get her straps
off.

Loseth softly crooned to Orlaith, his eyes whirling gently. After a
few minutes N'vanik appeared and leaned in the archway, looking out at
the ledge. "Nice of you to drop by," he teased. He stifled a yawn and
cursed the time difference again.

"You can go back to sleep if you need to. I just need somewhere to sit
for awhile.."
These things happened and were part of being a goldrider. Finishing
her task, she
released her queen to go bother Loseth while she headed further
inside. "I wonder
who it'll be-we did have that new transfer-one of yours. He's young
but his dragon
seemed to be well equipped."

"How about that handsome Weyrdragonhealer of yours? What's his name
... Y'gel?" He sat on the couch and motioned for her to join him.

"His dragon was injured a long time ago. He can win greenflights easily
but goldflights-it's mainly just trying anyway." Not that she didn't think
Augashyth deserved it, it was just one of those things. Walking over, she
flopped onto the couch and curled up against him. **Might be good to take
a nap while I can**

N'vanik put an arm around her. "That's too bad." After a pause, he
said, "Has she gotten any better? Lenala?" The way Rhosyn described
her reminded him of Traelyn, the way she'd withdrawn from all but the
most basic of duties.

"I don't know if you'd call it better. If I tell her to do something,
she does it,
but she still isn't a self starter. At least I don't have to worry
about her flights
going wrong like they did under Tsaera." She sighed, looking up for a
few moments.
"When I'm grounded and she's in charge, though, I still have to look over her
shoulder sometimes."

"Sharding annoying." He knew that if he couldn't lead drills or Fall
for some reason, R'enh would take over with no problem. "Could you
replace her? I suppose you've been trying."

"I've been quietly looking and making inquiries but at the present time there
doesn't seem to be any women who are looking to leave home. Apparently you
took the last one." She gave him a cross look for a moment, but then mellowed
again. "I guess...maybe after this clutch since I have everything else in order
and can focus more-I might try to fix her if I can. I know her initial
training wasn't
that great since the Ole Spiderclaw was focused solely on making my
life a sharding
pit instead of pushing her. And Tsaera started but then she had to step down. Of
course Zharesti wasn't even here that long."

"Fix her," he repeated, chuckling. "She's not a broken wheel. But good
luck. You deserve someone competent, someone that can keep up with
you."

**Don't think anyone could ever really do that** "We'll see how it goes. It's
worth a shot anyway. If she benefits, then I suppose it's worth it."
Besides, that was part of her job as Weyrwoman-to train and manage the
Weyr's other goldriders
in her wing. "I love my job," she said sweetly.

"You love being in charge." He trailed a finger down her cheek.

"Don't you?" she quipped easily before closing her eyes. "You know, if
you're tired,
you can sleep. Can't be having you walk around half dead tomorrow.
Then stories come
about that I showed up in the middle of the night..." A grin started
on her face.

He pulled her into his lap. "I kinda like those rumors."

"Ah well no sense in them being rumors then..." Turning around, she
began to kiss
him, forgetting what was happening dragonlengths away and focusing only on what
she wanted in front of her.
