K'sedel

K'sedel

After R'enh had come to tell her the news, she decided to give N?vanik a day or so before going to Dolphin Cove to ask him how he felt about all of it. She thought she already knew however. Still, the entire mess weighed on her mind and she couldn't help but question everything she knew. At dinnertime, she was distracted and quiet, waiting to give K'sedel the news.

"Spill," the Weyrleader said. "Whatever it is, it can't be good to keep it all in."

"Janani is stepping down as Weyrwoman and leaving Dolphin Cove. She's going to another Weyr." The look of absolute confusion on Rhosyn's face was enough to explain her odd silence.

"Did she give a reason?"

"Nope. Just said some other Weyr needed help. Still, Jyramikah or someone
else could have gone-which is how those things are done." It was always a
junior weyrwoman who left. Weyrwomen weren't allowed to.

"There has to be more to it than that."

"That's all R'enh told me. And he's the Weyrleader's wingsecond so he'd
know. From what happened before, though....N'vanik's going to be angry. They have that new woman but..." Still very confused, Rhosyn looked at her Weyrleader to make sense of it.

"If she can't give them stability..." K'sedel thought back to what had
happened with Traelyn. "That's something they need over there."

"Well obviously. The only thing is....can a Senior Weyrwoman even do that? I didn't think you could just...leave...It's against everything." Duty was duty and rules were rules. She was sure that was one of them they had learning in weyrlinghood.

"Deep down, it's her choice."

"Well, all I'm going to say is a Weyrwoman who abandons her Weyr willingly... In my estimation, you're not fit to be a goldrider." She sighed and looked back at him. "I haven't said anything to N'vanik yet. He's probably very angry and I don't know what they're going to do. Probably not much we can do to help either."

"I doubt that he'd take anything we'd offer. He's a proud man."

"Mmmmm....." Sighing, she looked back down into her plate. "I don't know
anything about the new woman-I just met her briefly at the hatching. She's
their only hope though."

"She has a good reputation, or so K'deren says."

"Oh? And what else does K'deren say hm?" Something in his tone urged her on. **That could be very interesting.**

"He says she has a good head on her shoulders, and that her children are foster siblings to his."

"Oh children....that's nice." The goldrider knew about children and had been around K'sedel's, but she didn't have any of her own and was secretly pleased by this fact. Orlaith was enough to handle as it was, along with the Weyr. Not that she'd be expected to raise her own children but.... "Well I hope so. She'll need it."

"I'm sure she'll be fine."

Lapsing into their normal dinner routine, she was quiet as she ate. A full
stomach tended to relax her and it did now. "I suppose I'll go talk to him
in a few days. Give them time to figure some things out. You wanna go?"

"I'll leave it to you." Personally he thought another goldrider turning up
was not what N'vanik or Dolphin Cove would need, but if she really wanted to go....
