Part of moving and starting over was making the effort to meet new
people. The easy choice was to start with his wingmates. So after
drills he picked a friendly looking greenrider and went to introduce
himself. "Hi, I'm D'ren, of bronze Menanth."

"Hi D'ren. I'm Uetia and my green's name is Sirjath," she replied with
a friendly smile and nod towards her dragon.

"Pleased to meet you. I just transferred from Dolphin Cove, and I
figured I should get to know my new wingmates."

"Welcome to River Bluff Weyr then," Uetia said. "It's always fun to meet new
people."

"Thank you." He'd made a good choice, picking her first. "So where are you
from?"

"Orginally, from Far Island. I was apprenticed to Dolphineer Hall and ended
up Impressing here," Uetia replied and made a sweeping motion with her hand
that included whole of River Bluff Weyr.

"Oh, an apprentice dolphineer? So you were Searched from the Hall?"

"Journeywoman," Uetia corrected with a flash of a grin. "And I was Searched
here, in River Bluff weyr. While I was visiting uncle U'das," she continued
explaining.

Searched on a visit, how interesting. "Ohhh. So was it hard to leave the
craft?"

"Yes, I miss it. Of course, most of the days I'm too busy to think about
it," Uetia replied.

D'ren chuckled. "That's true enough. I was an apprentice harper before I was
Searched, but I'd always wanted to be a rider. Crafting was my second
choice."

"Lucky for you to full fill your dream. I have dragonriders in my family, so
me Impressing was hardly a surprise," Uetia replied.

"I'm the first in my family. They were very surprised I Impressed, and a
bronze no less." D'ren remembered the looks on their faces at the Hatching
Feast.

"Well, somebody got to be first. They should be proud of you," Uetia said.

"Oh, they are, although they worry about me fighting Thread."

"Don't they always? I think it's part of the parent's job description,"
Uetia replied.

"Very true. I can hardly imagine what it's like for them. I worry enough
about my friends. " And he'd lost some, like poor little I'ster.

"Me too, and about my brother, even knowing he's the older and more
experienced rider," Uetia said.

"Does your brother live here, too?"

"No, he's in Far Island Weyr. Thank Faranth for that. We would be probably
be driving each other up the wall if we were in a same place too long,"
Uetia replied with a grin and laughter in her voice.

D'ren chuckled. "I know how that can be. Do you have any other family here,
besides your uncle?"

"Him and my cousin U'fouinn," Uetia replied.

"So what do you do for fun?"

"Swin, dive, play with the dolphins or hang out at the beach with
friends," Uetia replied.

"Sounds a lot like what I did at Dolphin Cove." Except for the diving.

"Not every one does the diving," Uetia answered shrugging. "And of
course we have the waterball team."

"Ah, waterball." D'ren smiled. "I can't say I'm particularly good at
it, but I've had a lot of practice, in case you're short a person
someday."

"Good to hear it. Rhosyn is the captain, so you talk to her about
joining," Uetia said with delighted grin. "With L'ris busy with
weyrling training, we could use more players."

"The Weyrwoman is the captain? How interesting. I met her already. She
seems nice." Again he wondered how much the rumors exaggerated. There
was always some amount of truth stretching and outright lies about
high ranking people, but often there was at least some real truth to
the stories being spread.

"Yes, she took over when she came here. The old captain wanted to
retire anyway," Uetia replied.

"Do you have regular games?" Although he felt self conscious about his
skill at the game, it would be a great way to meet people.

"As regular as group of dragonriders and weyrfolk can. We have
practises on restdays..unless it's Fall day," Uetia told him.

D'ren nodded. "I might give it a try."

"You're very welcome," Uetia said.
