Description: D'lorn asks Briata to do a guest lecture.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 7, day 1 of Turn 6
Curious to have a chat with one of the Weyr's more interesting
residents, the greenrider situated himself into the path the weaver
was going to take. He knew she was going to take it because Villith
had told him. He had something to ask her, though he wondered what
she would say.
And indeed, the young woman turned a corner, coming into sight. Her
long hair had been braided then pulled up to make an ebony crown upon
her head. In her arms, she carried a basket, but it wasn't full of
laundry. Rather it contained various yardage of fabric in all sorts of
colors. She made her way through the hall, not in a hurry, but she
kept a steady pace.
D'lorn didn't step into her path. Rather, he fell into step with her.
"Hello there. You seem busy."
Briata came to a sudden stop, eyes lifting to meet the dragonrider's.
There was a pause, but after it came a polite nod. "I...suppose I
am." She was not familiar with the man, but had a feeling she most
likely knew his dragon.
"Could you use a bit of help with that load perhaps?" It wasn't hard to
tell she was pregnant by the look of her and anyway Villith had shared
that tidbit as well.
"I'm fine thank you." The young weaver responded politely. Her eyes
studied the dragonrider for a moment before she spoke again. "I don't
believe we have met."
"D'lorn, green Villith, the weyrlingmaster third as of a few months." He
would have put his hand out but hers were full so that didn't make
sense.
Ah, the name was familiar, but she had not officially met him.
"Briata, Senior apprentice weaver," she greeted amiably, giving her
title since he had given his. "Well met, Weyrlingmaster third."
"Ah so you're the one." He was quiet as if he had only just realized it.
"I hear that you help sometimes. When you can." D'lorn had an idea,
but he didn't want to just come out with it.
Briata cocked her head to the side. She's the one? She didn't need to
ask what he meant. "I do what I can. Threadfall especially." She
tried to help, keep the dragons calm, soothe them. She didn't know if
she was truly any help, but she hoped she was.
"I was wondering if you might be willing to introduce yourself to my
weyrlings. Some of them don't even know people with your abilities
exist and I think it would be good for the dragonets to realize that as
well." D'lorn thought it would be informative.
That made Briata pause. Introduce herself to the Weyrlings? Well, she
knew a few of them of course. Not all, but a few. "I...suppose if you
would like me to I can."
"I think it would be a good thing and might be easier doing it now.
Plus, it'll give them something to think about." D'lorn really did
think it would be a good idea, especially if she was going to continue
working with the dragonhealers.
"All right. If you wish it." Briata had to admit she felt awkward at
the idea, but if the man thought it might be worthwhile she didn't want
to deny him. "When?"
"Since you have craft duties, I can easily try and work around those.
If you want to let me know?" D'lorn didn't need to know right then, of
course. He was willing to defer scheduling.
"I can send you a message with my schedule," Briata agreed. Of course
she knew she would have to take Threadfall into account as well. "I
can get that to you by this evening."
"That would be lovely. I'll let you get back to your duties then. Looks
like your arms may get tired soon. We'll be in touch," D'lorn offered
as he went down his own tunnel to the right.
