Description: Uetia and Sabonus say goodbye for a period of time.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 19 of Turn 6
Saying goodbye was always so hard. Even if it was just for temporarily.
She inspected the ship docked to River Bluff's small port. That ship
would take Sabonus away from her. She wondered how her mother had dealt
with it, or how her brother-in-laws did it.
"You come back to, did you hear, seilor-boy. You come back or I send a
flaming dragons after you!" she finally turned to look at him. She tried
to keep her tone light, joking, but underneath there was fierceness.
"Ah, now Uetia, there's nothing to worry about," he said, wrapping his
hands around her waist to pull her close. "We'll be hugging the coast
all the way to Sun Stone. All you have to worry about is all the pretty
girls there to meet us on the docks."
"Don't remind me of that!" Uetia lifted her eyebrow.
"Oh, like you have anything to worry about," Sabonus chuckled, rather
liking the idea that Uetia was feeling a little territorial. "You know
you could parade all those Holder girls naked in front of me and I
wouldn't pick a single one over you. Especially knowing that there the
threat of a flaming dragon over my head."
"Yes, I know that," she replied and found herself smoothing down his
tunic.
Like it need fixing!
"Come on now," he said soothingly, trying to comfort her. "A few
sevendays, that's all, and then I'll be right back. That's not so hard,
is it?" After all, some sailors were away from their family nearly a
turn at a time.
"I don't know yet," Uetia admitted. "Agh, I'm just like the women in my
hold, weeping after their men and you're not even left yet."
"Well, I rather like that you're going to miss me. And you know I'm
going to be missing you, too. I'll be thinking of you every day." As
much as he loved the sea, it also left plenty of time for one's own
thoughts, and was pretty sure she'd be taking up the bulk of his.
"Me too. Right now, I wish I had a flit. Sirjath's dear but she's not
able to land on a ship or take a letter."
"Maybe that's something we can think about." It wouldn't be hard to
safe up for one. "I can leave a letter with a runner first port I get
to." They still were the main source of letter and information services
for the common folk, after all.
"Yeah, and if the winds are in favour, you'll be back before the
letter," Uetia snorted. That could sometimes happen.
"Is that so bad?" He wasn't opposed to the idea of getting home to her
a little faster.
"No, not at all," she said.
"So you and I miss each other for a few sevendays, and then I'll be back
and it gives us an excuse to make up for lost time." They did say
absence made the heart grow fonder. "It won't be so bad. You'll see.
You'll be busy with your friends, and I'll be busy at sea, and it will
go faster than we can imagine."
"I hope you're right," Uetia said. She made a forced attempt to cheer
up.
He leaned in to give her a soft kiss before wrapping her up in his arms.
"Everything will be all right. You'll see."
She just murmured agreement and leaned against him.
Sabonus frowned as he saw one another one of the crew members shoulder
his bag and make his way up the gang plank. They would be shoving off
soon. Time was growing short. "I'll find some way to get a message to
you when we get into port." There was always someone with a flit around
the docks willing to send messages for a few coins.
"I'll be waiting for you," Uetia said.
"You better be," he said with a mock growl before leaning in to give her
soft kiss. This was a new experience for him. Sabonus had watched many
a sailor goodbye his love on the docks while all he had felt was the
excitement to get underway. Now the boot was on the other foot. He
never had imagined it would be this hard. "I love you, Uetia."
"I love you too," she replied and meant it.
