D'arvn

D'arvn whistled as he walked across the Weyrbowl toward the weavers'
room. He had some new cloth he'd picked up at the recent gather and
planned to craft it into a new gather tunic. He had a good idea
already of what he wanted to do with it but wanted some more eyes and
opinions. Besides that, he needed the big table to lay it out along
with the pattern templates for cutting before he could begin to
embellish the pieces.

He greeted several people with his usual sunny smile when he walked
in. But then his eye caught something on the other side of the room.
He walked over to where the dark head was bent over her work. "What
have you got there Briata?"

"An outfit for the Weyrwoman." Briata finished a stitch and then
looked up to give the bluerider a smile. She couldn't help but notice
the fabric, and rather fine fabric at that. Since her hands were a bit
full, Briata inclined her head toward it. "It looks like you are about
to start on something."

He waggled his eyebrows at her. "A new gather tunic for U'fouinn. I'm
trying to make it a surprise. But you know how that goes." He knew he
was terrible at keeping secrets.

He tilted his head this way and that. "Pretty. You do nice work
Briata. Good eye."

"Thank you." Briata often liked what she did. Sometimes she didn't
like specific things within a piece that she did, or felt that she
could have executed something better, but most of the time, she at the
very least enjoyed working on it. "He'll like that tunic I'm sure.
You're going to the Gather at Sunstone?"

"Yes. He's been working so hard on his weaving." D'arvn's head came
up and he looked around the room quickly. "Has he been here today?"

"I haven't seen him, though that doesn't mean he wasn't here." Briata
shook her head her dark tresses playing about her shoulder and
disturbing the little gold whose tail was wrapped around her neck and
snoozing. Jewel chirruped in annoyance, then settled back down to
snooze further. "Our schedules don't always overlap."

"Yes, I have the same problem." With his odd schedule there were times
when he got home that U'fouinn was already asleep. "Anything
interesting going on with you?"

Briata didn't really want to bring up the topic of her pregnancy so she
said simply, "Not really. I'm just continuing with my classes and
helping in the dragon infirmary during Threadfall." It had gotten
easier, though it was still by no means _easy_. "And you?"

"Well, I was surprised when we were flying sweeps and Falzeth decided
to land and check out a possible candidate." He grinned at the young
woman. "Turns out he seems to have a flair for Search. Not that we
want to do that full time."

"Oh but searchriders are always needed." Briata pointed out. "That's
a nice talent to have. Is that the first time he has exhibited that
ability?"

"To that degree, yes." D'arvn thought back over other times Falzeth
had shown interest. It had never pulled them down out of the sky like
that before. "We're mostly messengers."

"Then perhaps it's a chance to do something different?" Briata arched
an eyebrow, her head tilting the side. "It could prove to be
interesting."

"I suppose," he sat down next to her and fingered the work of his
fabric. "Don't you think U'fouinn will look well in this? He's so
beautiful." D'arvn knew he was a cad at times but he really did love
his weyrmate.

"I think he will." Briata agreed with a nod, watching him fawn over
the tunic. It always pleased her to see someone take pleasure in a
well made item, even if it wasn't something she had made. "I'm sure
he'll enjoy it."

He held it up again and turned his head back and forth. "I think it
will need a nice trim around the neck, sleeves, and hem. Maybe
something to match his eyes."

"That could be easily done. It wouldn't take long and isn't hard at
all." Not that Briata would be the one to do it - it was, after all,
D'arvn's project. "But sometimes if you add something that matches
one's eyes, it can actually down play it. I might suggest something
that makes them stand out."

"Oh, good thought. You have such a great eye Briata." D'arvn smiled
winningly. "Well, I'd best get cutting this." He went to the big
cutting table and began his measurements.
