Description: Uetia and Sabonus talk after Hatching.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 4 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Jayonne
Uetia finished her dance with Jayonne. Dancing with the harper was fun
and their playful banter sometimes bordered on flirting.
Out of breath, she went have some drink, keeping an eye open for
Sabonus. She hadn't been able to see him after the Hatching.
The ship carpenter had been busy after the Hatching. He had gone back
to the barracks with the intention of just changing out of his Candidate
whites, but it just seemed a waste to stow everything back under his
allocated cot. As a journeyman he had been afforded a great deal of
freedom, and had rarely spent time there. He felt no emotional
attachment to the place, nor did he feel any bitter disappointment about
not Impressing like some of his compatriots in the room obviously felt.
Sabonus had given it a try, as was his duty, but deep down he had always
known he belonged on the sea. The time was not a waste, as it had
brought him together with Uetia and had lead him to meet a lot of great
people. But the moment was gone, and it was time to move on.
Pulling out his duffle bag, he repacked everything carefully. He then
pulled the sheets off his cot and neatly folded them at the end, piling
his pillow on top of that. Slinging his bag back over his shoulder, he
made his way to find Uetia at last.
"There you are," Uetia spotted him and made to his side. "Still no
dragon for you," she said with symphatic voice and kissed him.
"It is as it was always meant to be," he said with a shrug, one hand
resting lightly on her hip while the other stabilized the strap on his
shoulder. "So do you think you could take in a homeless man for a night
or two?"
"Oh, I think I can find some empty spot in my weyr for you. Like in my
bed," Uetia replied.
"Well, that's specific," Sabonus grinned, leaning in close once more.
"I think that's worth not Impressing for."
"Unexpected benefit," Uetia grinned. If he had Impressed, it had meant
for three month's forced separation.
He pressed his lips to hers for another kiss before reaching down for
her hand. "Do you think I could stow my gear in your weyr for now?"
The duffle would get in the way on the dance floor, after all.
"Sure," she replied.
He steered her back towards her weyr, his fingers still laced with hers.
"I'm thinking of asking the Harbor Master if there's a cot or a bunk
available down there. At least until I can find a boat posting."
"Boat posting?" she was startled by that. Yes, they had talked about
such possibility, but somehow she had come to think it would never happen.
"Well, yes," he said, taken aback a bit by her apparent surprise. "We
_did_ talk about that, didn't we?"
"Well, yes, but that was long while ago and I though..." she shrugged.
"I told you, nothing permanent. I month or two with a ship that needs a
carpenter and then I'd be back." That was what they had discussed
previously.
"I would miss you terribly," she wrapped her hands around him, like she
could keep him near her that way.
"Well, I'm not going to like being far away from you, either. But I
really can't just sit around the Weyr, can I?" And really the only
thing that was holding him now was her. If he hadn't found Uetia, there
would be no question that he would be taking back off to sea on a permanent
assignment.
"Probably not," Uetia murmured. They were both people who liked to do
things, feel useful.
Sabonus was a little unnerved by her reaction to all this. Why did she
seem so surprised about all this? "We talked about this before, right?
You sounded all right with it then..." Even supportive.
That had been before their love vacation to hot springs. Now, she just
didn't want to him to go. "I'm not preventing you," she said instead.
"I know you're not." Not with words. "It will only be temporary, I
promise. I don't want to be away from you for long."
"Oh good, 'cause I'll miss you terribly and I don't want to loose you,"
she kissed him with passion to show how much she would miss him.
When their lips parted they were both a little breathless. Grinning, he
wrapped his arms around her, keeping her close. "Well, if kisses like
that are what I can expect to come home to, you can be sure I can't stay
away long."
"That's the big plan," Uetia murmured.
"I love the way you think." It was going to be fun coming home to her,
Sabonus was sure. "I won't be heaving off for a while. Maybe in the
mean time you can make sure I don't forget your cunning ways?"
"Sound's good to me," she sounded breathless.
He grinned. It was going to be a wonderful few days, he could tell.
"Good. Then show me where I can stow my gear, and then let's get
naked."
"Let's go, sailor-boy," Uetia took his hand and pulled him along.
