What a Dump

Writers: Chelle, Len
Date Posted: 2nd February 2012

Characters: G'wen, Rhosyn
Description: Neath meets Orlaith, after coming to RBW as transport help after the Weyr's four hurricanes.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 6, day 3 of Turn 6

}:This place is a dump!:{ Neath broadcasted loudly, just before she
realized that the Weyr's huge queen was sitting close to where she was
to land. }:Oops:{

**Oops indeed! Be nice, they've just had four hurricanes in a row,
practically!** G'wen leaned over her shoulder to look the place over,
with a small gasp. So this is what a hurricane did. No wonder
Meledei didn't like them. He nudged her to land in her original spot
when she tried to swerve off.

}:But the queen is there! What if she heard me?:{

**Then this gives you a perfect chance to apologize to her. Now land
please, this strap is starting to cut the circulation off my thigh.**
They had been assigned transport duty by their Weyr, to help carry
supplies to River's Buff.

Fortunately for Neath, Orlaith had been busily watching the senior weyrlings
who were helping out with the cleanup efforts. They would graduate very soon,
her first hatchlings. Still, the watchdragon had alerted her to the
presence of the foreign green. }:You come to help?:{

}:I have indeed.:{ Neath landed gracefully next to Orlaith. Secretly
she liked her huge size but she tried not to look too impressed and
instead stretched a wing, letting the light shine through and
highlight her unusual golden yellow undertone.

}:There is much. Trash to be removed, wood to be brought in:{ Her eyes
whirled blue over her Weyr. They would right it again, she knew. Still, all
had gotten through safely and that was what mattered.

Neath snorted at that. She and her's weren't about to be used for
trash collection. G'wen slid off her shoulder and went looking for
someone to take the supplies they had delivered. }:Mine's been ill.
Is there someone around to help him?:{

}:The Headwoman's staff is all around the Bowl:{ Orlaith knew they
were all running around coordinating everything. }:They have the right
knots:{ She sent a picture of the proper shoulder knots to look for, which
was the easiest way for an outsider to identify them.

}:She says look for someone like this,:{ and Neath sent G'wen a mental
picture of the shoulder knots.

**Okay.** G'wen scampered off, searching as he went. Neath didn't
need to be left standing with a heavy load on her back in this heat,
after all.

}:Have you been here before then?:{ Orlaith asked the green, not having
anything else to occupy her at the moment.

}:Yes, once.:{ On a nicer day, Neath added to herself. When the
place didn't look so crap.

**Neath! Even if the queen can't hear you_I_can. Now behave!**

}:I was not always here. I was hatched at Vista Point. Mine doesn't like
the hot here but I do. It warms my hide and my eggs when I lay them.
You don't have hot where you were hatched:{ Orlaith had been to Dragonsfall
a few times though not since she had become senior queen.

Neath nodded at that. She would like the warmth too. }:I don't think
mine would mind the heat. He can't seem to get warm, ever since his
injury..he's always feeling cold.:{ She looked about for G'wen. In
her mind he was still weak and fragile from his long illness and she
didn't like him out of her sight for long.

}:Yours was hurt?:{ Many riders got hurt, the queen knew that. Still, she
did have a mothering instinct that reared its head from time to time.

}:He almost died. I kept him from going /between/.:{ Rather than
puff herself up like she would have a few months ago, the young green
looked about for him. Just the thought of what had nearly happened
put her into a fret.

}:Sometimes riders get hurt. It is our duty to take care of them. You did
well, Neath.:{ Orlaith brought her head down to have a better look at the
green. }:Threadfighting is serious business:{

}:I can't wait to go back in the skies.:{ She knew it was going to be
a long time before she and G'wen saw another 'Fall.

}:It is hard to know the enemy is there and you can't meet it:{ The queen
experienced that every time she had eggs. }:He will heal and then you
will fight again. You will sear the thread from the skies and fly with your
wing:{

}:I know.:{ It was still hard, waiting. Out of the corner of her
eye, she spied her tiny rider. }:Ah, here he comes, with help.:{

}:Clear skies as you work then. It is time for me to hunt:{ Unfurling her
great wings, Orlaith's head came up as her eyes scanned the herdbeast
pens at the far end of the Bowl. Pushing herself into the air in one movement,
she headed straight for a large bull at the end. Before he knew it, he was
beneath her as she began to eat.
