Y'gel

Y'gel

The hatching was over, she was flying again, and all was right with her world.
Rhosyn found herself sitting in the Records Room updating the hatching records
so she had everything straight before she forgot. Of course since it
was connected
to her weyr, it meant she was doing it in her sleeping gown.

Y'gel wanted to go over some of his examination results on the newly
hatched dragonets with the Weyrwoman and he intended to get an early
start. His regular appointment wasn't for another half a candlemark.
He really didn't think much of it and walked toward her office from
the ledge. "Rhosyn? I know I'm a little early....." His voice trailed
off as he registered what he was seeing and what he'd done. "Oh pardon
me Weyrwoman!" His face flamed and he spun on his heel to go back to
the ledge and Aughashyth.

}:Why does your rider leave?:{ Orlaith asked with a sense of mental humor.
The gold was resting on her ledge before they had wing practice later.

Rhosyn turned when she heard his voice and then a look of confusion came
over her face when she heard him leave. She usually walked around the Weyr
less clad than this with the heat so it didn't register what the problem was.
"What?"

}:He is uncomfortable and embarrassed. He sees too much of yours.:{

Y'gel kept his head averted when she followed him. His own brief
intimate experience with the Weyrwoman when she'd been proddy was
enough to cause him a rather visible reaction to her state of undress.
"Maybe a robe Rhosyn," his strangled voice came back. The gown she
wore was close to transparent.

She looked down at herself and then back at him and she realized what he
was upset over. Muttering something about prudish Weyrfolk, she disappeared.

}:He's already seen her without any covering so what difference does that
make?:{ Orlaith was seriously confused along with her rider. The gold once
again decided humans were silly creatures.

Returning with a dress slipped over her head, she frowned at him. "Happy?"

His embarrassment had had more to do with his own reaction than
anything else but he wasn't quite ready to turn around with the
evidence still so plain. "I'm sorry Rhosyn. It was just the surprise."
He took a deep breath and holding the reports strategically in front
of him moved toward her desk to sit, albeit a bit uncomfortably before
setting a foot on his knee and handing her the report. "Here is my
report."

Coming forward, she took her own seat again and got comfortable
with the records spread out everywhere. "Dragons going back but not
many coming in. Good." She read over the names quietly, her eyes scanning
the hide.

"Yes," he said adjusting his position slightly as his body returned to
normal. "And I have a great report on the new dragonets. You have a
nice healthy group of weyrlings." He pushed that report forward too.

Taking that one, she took longer to read. "I'm rather proud of that good
looking bronze for sure." Happy with what she was reading, Rhosyn
finished and set them aside. Now that she was flying again, she wasn't
assisting Y'gel as much. "So how many journeymen do you have on board
now?"

"In all five. But I have one Senior Apprentice who is close and
another couple I have my eye on. They're coming along nicely." He
shook his head. "I had been hoping Alomen would Impress this time
around. That is about the only thing holding him back at this point."

"Hm well perhaps his dragon will be there next time." She thought again
about Gelira, but didn't voice the thought.

"Yes," he answered while his mind tangled with the next thing he had to say.
He took a deep breath and decided to just jump in. "Ok, there is one
other thing you might want to know. I'd appreciate if you keep it
under your hat for now though."

"I made some poor decisions. That is it was my fault that she..."
Faranth! Why hadn't he thought out what he was going to say before he
even came here. Of course maybe the three shots of whiskey he'd had
weren't exactly helping his concentration.

"Alright um... the thing is." He stopped and leaned forward with his
elbows on his knees to help organize his thoughts a little. "Shardit!"
He sat back up straight again. "Briata's pregnant." He rubbed his
forehead before spitting out the rest. "It's mine."

Well that was a surprise. Rhosyn was very quiet for a bit as she processed
this information. "And she's keeping it." The girl was holderbred and Rhosyn
would expect that from her. "And she couldn't stand for the next hatching
even if she wanted to."

The Weyrwoman was quite disappointed by that. In the same breath, though,
she was gaining a possible future candidate with good blood. "So what's going
to be done? What do you think about it?"

He nodded at her first statements looking at his hands. "Frankly I'm
not sure," he said. He didn't feel it was necessary to tell the
Weyrwoman that he'd offered to weyrmate and she'd turned him down.
That much at least was private.

"We're really nothing more than friends. What happened was an
accident. Her flit rose and..." He didn't really want to go into all
that. Things happened in a Weyr and that much at least was understood.
"I'll be there for whatever she needs."

Sighing, she knew there was nothing she could do about this. Things happened.
While it annoyed her to have to give Briata up for a hatching, or perhaps more
she was glad that it meant a baby and a possible future candidate for the Weyr.
"When the time comes if she decides to foster, I can speak with her. For now, I
know she has enough training to know what to do about a baby."

"Yes, I'm sure she does." He put his hands on his knees preparing to
rise. "And now Rhosyn, I believe I'm going to go find a drink."

"It's not that bad you know. At least you like kids." She crinkled up her face.
"And if you're already drinking, that's not a very good start." He didn't even
have to have the kid. It would come out of her.

"I _do_ like kids," he said. That really wasn't the reason he wanted
to drink. "I know she'll do just fine." He smiled and rose. "Maybe I
should go find Gelira."
