Briata

Briata

It irked her to no end that she had to do this again so soon. Still,
Rhosyn had made the appointment and she realized it was necessary.
Since all she had at the moment was the hatching dress she?d just worn
and the heavy one she wore to the one at Dragonsfall, she realized that
she needed something to wear to the gather. She refused to think about
the ruined dress.

Briata was nestled in a corner in one of the workrooms. Classes were
done and so she was working on her project. She'd made a good headway
on it, but still not as far as she wanted to get. She wasn't sure if
it would be good enough, but she hope it was. She was using a lot of
colours, but that wasn't the only appeal of it - it was the _way_ the
colours were used, how they complimented and contrasted, how they
worked together. If one didn't have a good sense of colour, then it
didn't matter how fine the details and good the workmanship was.

The Weyrwoman's entrance was not ignored nor did it go unnoticed. The
steps could be heard and Briata looked up as they sounded. She smiled
to the woman and put aside her work to stand and greet. "Good day to
you, Weyrwoman. Is everything all right?"

"Yes it's just that there's going to be a gather and it will be
infernally hot and the other dress was ruined. I'm afraid I don't have
anything to wear." She looked agitated. Rhosyn didn't like fashion, not
really. She'd much rather be worrying about something else.

"I can make you another if you like." Briata couldn't help but be
amused, though she did a grand job of not showing it. "Something like
last time? Or...perhaps something a bit more...modest, but still cool?"

She had felt bad about messing up N'vanik's hatching and had decided
to avoid a repeat. "Well this needs to be practical. Apparently there
are going to be boat races and fireworks and such. Maybe a daytime
outfit and something for evening wear?"

"That won't be a problem. Do you want the day time outfit to be a
little less embellished?" Briata would feel a lot better with making
clothes that didn't look like they could fall off or show something
inappropriate any minute. "Would you like them both to be dresses or
one to be a pants suit?"

"It's going to be hot, Briata, and there will be a lot of sun. So
something white or a light color for the daywear would be good. With
all the sand and water, I was actually thinking a skirt or shorts." Of
course the holders wouldn?t like the shorts, but she didn't care.

"Evening wear has to be a dress, but something I can dance in. I'll need
to keep cool but it won't have to be quite as light as the other." She
scratched the back of her neck as she thought of it. "Above all,
though, I want to be comfortable."

"Certainly. I can ask or see if I can find some written documentation
and see what the average weather is like for the area and design
something based on that." Briata didn't think one should wear something
if it was uncomfortable - though many women did. While she enjoyed
looking nice, she wasn't going to sacrifice much in the way of comfort
to achieve it.

"That would be good yes." Thinking about the possibilities, she decided
to leave it in Briata's hands for now.

"I can have a sketch of the two outfits to you by tomorrow if I find
documentation quickly enough." The young woman offered. Sketches were
easy and fast, especially if one had inspiration.

"You don't have to be hurry but as soon as we can would be good. They'll
have to be ready by the end of the month," she glanced back at the
younger woman to see her reaction to that.

"End of the month?" Of course, Briata had heard and knew of the gather
so really, that came as no surprise. "I'm sure I'll be able to have
something for you soon and get it ready by then." It would mean a lot
of long hours if it was particularly fancy, but she could do it.

"I'll leave you to it then." Rhosyn gave her a small smile. "I appreciate
it. You always do good work." Leaving the apprentice with her thoughts, the
goldrider headed off to complete the other tasks on her list.
