Y'gel

Y'gel

The greenrider sat in his new office, looking at the desk. This was an
interesting turn of events. His recent promotion was something he took
seriously. Now, he had to get on the ball and start getting things in place for the newest weyrling class. He wouldn't fail his superiors. No, these kids were going to be serious, battle-ready riders when he got through with them.

Y'gel had heard about the recent promotion and made it a practice to
reach out to people in new positions in the Weyr and assure them of
his goodwill and cooperation. Knocking on the door frame he walked
into the office.

"Congratulations D'lorn!"

Seeing who it was, he visibly relaxed. "Thanks Master. You...?" He gestured to the seat and a glass.

Y'gel rubbed his hands together. "Absolutely!" He grinned at the
younger man. "And well deserved I might add."

"Ah well, it's going to be interesting. I've got this new weyrling class to come now. By the way, who do you usually get to do the basic dragonhealing classes for them?" His head came up as he thought about that and put a full glass in front of the other man.

Y'gel lifted the glass and admired the color of the liquid it
contained. "I like to take the first class myself," he said. "Just a
basic overview of anatomy. Then I'll assign various Journeymen to
lecture on their areas of expertise as we move through their
training."

"Fair enough. Definitely important to do basic dragon first aid with
all of them." He remembered what he'd had to learn just in case.

"I'm sure it will be," he smiled. The weyrling staff had one of the
hardest jobs in the Weyr in his opinion. "Once you evaluate them, just
let me know what they need to learn and I'm sure we can set up some
extra classes."

"For sure. Get everyone caught up and on the same page." D'lorn took another drink, thinking it over.

"So do you have any good apprentices?" D'lorn knew how important it was to
have good dragonhealers in the Weyr.

Y'gel laughed. "I had one very promising one that you have stolen from me for a hatchling. Of course that was necessary for his advancement. I know I'll get him back eventually."

"Ah well, happens sometimes it does." He gave a crooked grin. "That fellow Angshel then. Tell me-there seems to be something about that one..." He let it drop, wondering if Y'gel knew something he didn't.

"I don't know much about the boy but he works hard and learns fast."
Y'gel sipped his drink thoughtfully. "There are just the ones that
come along now and then with that added something. You know what I
mean?"

"Mmm..." He looked down and saw that the skin was almost empty. Frowning
at that, he considered his options.

Y'gel followed the man's gaze. "We must fix that immediately. To the
dining hall!"
