Description: The Weyrleader promotes one of the weyrlingstaff.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 2 of Turn 6
The greenrider made his way to the Weyrleader's office, wondering what had
happened. He hope it was something good, though he had been racking his
brain and couldn't figure out anything bad it could be. Still, he liked to
stay away from the Weyrleader's office most days. Bronzeriders had important things to do and all that!
So D'lorn stood up against the door and knocked before stepping back and
checking his knots. **Don't crack this up**
"Come in," called the Weyrleader. This, at least, was one of the more
pleasant duties that came with his rank, and he meant to make sure that it
was pleasant. A tray of refreshments lay on the desk, and the new knots he
hoped the man would accept were in his draws, ready to hand over.
Entering, D'lorn shut the door carefully behind him. With a small smile, he
walked inside and stopped in front of the big desk. "Good day, Weyrleader.
My duty to you."
"My duty to your green," K'sedel gestured to a seat. "Please, sit."
D'lorn took the seat and looked around for a moment before he focused again
on the man that commanded his attention.
"Juice?" offered K'sedel as he poured himself a glass.
"Ah yes, thank you sir." D'lorn handled the juice then settled back into the chair, sipping.
"You're probably wondering why I called you here today," began K'sedel.
"Of course," he agreed, allowing him to continue with curious eyes.
K'sedel reached into the desk drawer. This was one thing he did very much
like about his position. "I'd like to offer you these." New Weyrlingmaster's third knots were placed in front of the greenrider.
D'lorn looked down and for a moment couldn't believe what he was seeing.
When it clicked in his brain, he looked back up. "Ah...sir...well thank you. I'd be honored."
"I know our Weyrlingmaster recommended you, but I wanted to see if you
wanted the role first. There's a lot of responsibility with it."
He nodded once. "We've talked about it, but could you tell me again?"
"Those new weyrlings will be looking to you and your green to set them an
example, some of the holdbred that impress other colors will need to learn
that any color can lead, and lead well. Plus, not everyone has the patience
to teach them the skills they'll need to survive the Pass."
"Aye." He knew all that. He was wondering if there was extra hidework he
was supposed to do or something. "I am patient." He smiled, since that
seemed to be something the whole Weyr always knew. 'That D'lorn, he's
so patient with the younglings. Oh yes..' he'd heard them say.
"And there will be reports to complete, those weyrlings will need records to follow them into the wings, and exams setting."
"I'd imagine that." There, that was it. That wasn't too bad though and
surely there were scribes to hand that helped with that.
"In that case, there is only one thing left to say," K'sedel reached over
and offered his hand. "Congratulations, Weyrlingmaster 3rd."
D'lorn got up from the seat to accept the Weyrleader's hand. "Thank you
so much, sir. I promise I will do you proud."
"Do the Weyrlings proud, that's all anyone can ask."
