G'nir

G'nir

"Weyrwoman Rhosyn. What a lovely hatching. Congratulations!" G'nir greeted and bowed to River Bluff's Weyrwoman.

Rhosyn's eyes caught G'nir and she smiled invitingly. "Thank you, Weyrleader. Tell me, is your Weyrwoman here?" She had been looking forward to seeing the other goldrider.

"We came together," G'nir replied.

"Lovely, I'll try to find her. For now, are you up for a dance?" She didn't remember if G'nir was a dancer or not. Some weren't and that was fine, but it was something Rhosyn loved.

"Of course, I was just about to ask you," G'nir replied. Bowing, he held out his hand for her. Born as a Lord Holder's son, dancing was second nature to him. He had started practicing it as a child.

Eager to see how this one did, she took his hand and followed him to the floor. Rhosyn saw the crowd part to let them take their place. The song wasn't fast nor slow, but it was a sort of two step.

G'nir let his body fall into the rhythm with the music. "So, how come that dragonhealer apprentice who Impressed, wasn't wearing the white robe and standing with the rest of the candidates?" he asked curiously.

"He had a few issues in his past we wanted to make sure were all right before he went out there." Rhosyn thought again of A'shel and smiled. "It seems his dragonet didn't want to wait though."

"Well, the dragon chooses, isn't that what they keep pounding into our heads since the first day as candidate," G'nir said with a nostalgic smile. He was certainly happy that Nirreth had chosen him.

"For certain. At least we're aware of the issue so the weyrlingstaff can help the lad through it if need be. I'm happy for him though." The Weyrwoman followed his turn. "So how are things at Dragonsfall?"

"Slowing down for the winter. Of course, we have some senior weyrlings to graduate," G'nir replied and swirled her around.

"Aye our first group is there too." The two of them had flown around the same time, she remembered. "Dolphin Cove will have eggs soon."

"Yes, that's always a nice occasion," G'nir replied.

"I Impressed there, but I moved to the North when the Weyrs there were reopened," G'nir replied.

"Why did you do that?" she asked curiously. Rhosyn had been north a few times, but had never had any real desire to stay there.

"Because it was a great opportunity for an ambitious bronzerider," G'nir said. He had never even tried to hide his goal and now he had gained it. He was Weyrleader, and planned to stay in that position for a long time. Although, in the end it was the Gold's choice.

She let it drop. It was his life. He was different from K'sedel and N'vanik. K'sedel was secure whether or not he had his position. N'vanik had never wanted to be Weyrleader in the first place. G'nir was naked ambition. Rhosyn could appreciate that in a man to a point. Hygalia wasn't like that, though, and it made her wonder how that worked. "You seem to know what you want."

"Why wouldn't I?" G'nir said with a rhetoric shrug.

"What's next for Dragonsfall then besides the hatching coming?" He was a pretty good dancer, she'd give him that.

"Nothing out of the ordinary. The next Flight some time later. We're lucky to have two regularly Rising queens."

"Dolphin Cove as well," Rhosyn remarked, thinking about that. She had been hoping for a gold egg this clutch, but it hadn't happened. K'sedel was right, though. It would come when it was needed.

"Yours does Rise pretty often, to compensate for the younger queens?" G'nir noted. He had heard that the two younger queens in River Bluff were more irregular in their mating cycle.

"Aye it seems that way so far though according to the Records that's pretty common in a Pass. We'll see how long it is until the next time." Of course she was proud of her queen. They would see River Bluff through.

"Yes, that remains to be seen. According to records, Dragonsfall had a whole turn without any queens rising!" G'nir replied. The music came to an end. "Shall we continue with another dance?" he asked. She was a pleasure to dance with.

She looked to see if there was anyone waiting on her. "Aye I'll go another round." **A whole turn with none? What had been wrong there?** "Do you remember when that was?" she asked curiously.

"No, it was while I was in the North. Just a sum of coincidences...Onnyth being too young and so forth," G'nir replied. The new tune was more livelier, so he had to concentrate on the dance instead of talk.

Accepting that, the Weyrwoman concentrated on the steps as well, becoming more quiet as she partnered G'nir.
