A New Acquaintance

Writers: Heather, Paula
Date Posted: 7th October 2011

Characters: Uetia, S'yei
Description: Uetia meets the new guy- S'yei- and they learn a little about each other while their dragons feed.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 3, day 7 of Turn 6

"So, you're the new bloke, S'yei, right?" Uetia approached her new
wingmate with openly curious expression.

S'yei looked down at the woman that approached. Yalith was currently
feeding and S'yei had taken the moment to find a nice perch to stand
on so that he could watch his blue. Stepping down, S'yei gave a
friendly smile when he noted the knots on Uetia's shoulder, "That
would be me. I take it we're in the same wing?"

"Yes, we are. I'm Uetia, green Sirjath's rider," Uetia replied and
stuck out her hand for a shake in her usual brusque manner.

"Nice to meet you." S'yei said as he took the woman's hand and gave it
a firm shake, "How long have you been at River Bluff?" He asked
conversationally.

"Since I Impressed, which was around turn, turn and a half ago," she
replied with a friendly grin.

"Ah, so you're still a young one then." Immediately S'yei's hands flew
up, "No offense meant of course." He knew that some people, women
especially, grew touchy about their age, even if they weren't being
called 'old.'

"Yes, I'm young," Uetia wasn't a least bit offended. She had her feet
firmly planted to the ground and she didn't imagine being something
else than she was.

S'yei shoved his hands in his pockets. The bluerider was quickly
running out of things to say as conversation had never been his strong
point, "So you like it here?"

"Sure do, why wouldn't I?" Uetia replied. "I mean, we have ocean,
plenty of sun and warmth."

"That we do." S'yei commented as he squinted an eye upward at the sun
that was beating down overhead. The bluerider kicked at a stray pebble
at his feet as he tried to think of something else to say to Uetia. He
wasn't totally sure why she had approached since it appeared that she
didn't have much to say, "You have a craft?"

"Sure do, I'm a dolphineer. How about you, have you a craft besides
being dragonrider? Where did you come from, and most importantly, why
did you come here?" Uetia was slowly getting speed.

S'yei chuckled at the slew of questions, "A dolphineer? I don't think
I've ever met a dolphin before, you'll have to introduce me to your
partner someday." The bluerider glanced casually out at Yalith who was
still feeding, "And I do have a craft, I'm a vintner. As for where I
came from, it was Dragonsfall. I came to River Bluff for a change of
scenery."

"I don't have dolphin partner, I don't think I would have Impressed if
I had. But I can introduce you to local pod if you want to. They are
always eager to meet new people," Uetia replied. "A vintner? Well, you
should feel quite at home here. We do know who to throw a party in
this weyr."

The bluerider tapped his forehead lightly, "Of course you wouldn't
have a partner, what was I thinking?" S'yei shook his head, a glass of
wine was in order he quickly decided. "Ah, I would love the chance to
taste some of the Weyr's own vintages." Not to mention a party would
allow him the chance to meet more people.

"That's easily arranged," Uetia replied with a grin.

S'yei grinned at that, he supposed it would. Maybe he would head down
that direction when he had some free time and meet the Weyr's
vintnercrafters. S'yei enjoyed meeting people who were also passionate
about wine- and not just for consumption purposes, "Well, Uetia, it
was nice meeting you. I'd better be on my way, it seems that Yalith
has finished his meal."

"Sirjath's only just begun," Uetia said with long suffering sigh.
Sometimes her green just did things so _slowly_!
"We'll see in drills, no doubt," Uetia replied.

Smile still in place, S'yei touched his index finger to his temple in
a little salute to Uetia, "I'll see you in drills then." With that the
bluerider departed, heading towards the Dining Cavern while Yalith
retreated to his ledge.
