Description: The Weyrwoman tells the Weyr about the eggs.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 5 of Turn 6
At the evening meal, Rhosyn stood up before the dais and made sure that
everyone saw it. When it was quiet, she looked out into the crowd. "People
of River Bluff-as you know a month and more, Nikornath flew my gold once
again. Well now we have the fruits of that labor. Orlaith has clutched 41
eggs in the Cavern."
She smiled when there were cheers, stomping, and exclamations of 'long live
the queen'. Rhosyn let them celebrate before she signaled for quiet again.
"As you know, this is going to mean our Searchriders will have to scan the
territories for enough candidates to present to the eggs. Any Weyr children
who wish to claim their right to Stand should see me as soon as possible."
"It won't be too much longer and we will have more weyrlings again. Our
Headwoman will be preparing for the hatching to come and she will need help. We will be busy but we will have more dragons and more riders. Your queen will do her duty and watch her eggs, but we need you to do yours. Help us find good candidates. Help us get ready. Let us all welcome the new blood into the Weyr." She turned to K'sedel, waiting to see if there was anything he wanted to say.
The Weyrleader got to his feet. "My thanks to our Weyrwoman for those
wonderful words. I can only echo that sentiment. I am sure that our
searchriders will bring us the best of candidates from our territories, but
I trust that will not detract anyone from flying fall. Remember that new
dragons and riders will ease that burden."
She moved to stand with K'sedel, their shoulders touching. "We're committed
to keeping this Weyr strong. We will do our duty. River Bluff riders will
fly when thread is in the sky. Now, though, is the time to celebrate." She smiled as some of the Weyr's harpers struck up a tune and part of the floor was cleared. "Don't be late for drills tomorrow, though." Smiling, she leaned against K'sedel for a moment before heading back to her seat.
K'sedel smiled, before leaning forward and raising a wine glass. "To River
Bluff, may the next hatching bring us only joy!"
Many of the weyr residents raised their own glasses, echoing the words.
Sounds of joy rang out around the dining caverns that night.
