K'sedel

K'sedel

Last time, she had labored while Rhosyn was asleep. This time, Orlaith woke
from a sound sleep, stretched, and then looked around her weyr. Crawling out from her couch, the huge, egg-heavy gold exited, ungainly as she was.
Looking around with bright eyes, she slowly made her way down from her ledge and through the Bowl, into the Grounds.

Rhosyn felt her decide as soon as she did. The goldrider got up from her
desk and walked down to the Grounds. "Go get the Weyrleader," she told
one of the brats that was loitering in the tunnels. She reached the Grounds
before Orlaith did. Walking to the entrance, she watched her usually beautiful queen bring her huge body into the cavern, ready to labor for her Weyr. Orlaith's eyes came up and saw her rider there and she looked around the Sands, contemplating how she would do this.

"Sir! Sir!" The brat was jumping up and down and waving as he tried to get
the attention of the Weyrleader who was talking to a group of wingriders.

"Bottom line is," K'sedel had just said before he heard the child calling.
"Yes?" he said a little sharply, turning to face the brat.

"Sir, the Weyrwoman asked me to get you," the child looked down and
scuffed a foot on the ground a little. "I think it's her dragon."

"I see," K'sedel gestured to the riders in dismissal. "Thank you for telling me."

}:My rider comes,:{ Nikornath told Orlaith.

She didn't wait. Instead, she dragged her heavy self through the sands.
This was going to take a long time. Resigned to her labors, she chose the
first spot and settled down, producing her first egg after some time.
Picking it up with her foreclaws, she surrounded it with the warm sands and
then moved slightly to deposit another one. Going about her business, she
crooned softly to welcome her babies.

**Well done, my love** she encouraged softly, watching her dragon for a
few moments before sitting in the Stands. Rhosyn knew it was going to take
some time, so she settled down to wait, watching for K'sedel.

}:I know how to do this well. So many times I have.:{ Orlaith snorted then
placed another one, arranging it so the shell was no longer tilted.

"Have I missed it?" K'sedel asked as he entered the caverns.

"The first one yes, but it's going to be awhile. You don't have to be here
for the whole thing, but I thought you should know at least." Rhosyn smiled
as she saw him come in. This was a special moment, for just them.

He returned the smile, "I don't think Nikornath would forgive me if I didn't stay long enough to tell him how many eggs there are, he always wants to know how many offspring he has managed to sire."

As the golden queen continued with her labors, Rhosyn thought about
motherhood, but quickly quashed the thought. She watched Orlaith handle
her eggs with the utmost care before depositing them onto the warm sands.
Grunting as she wandered around, arranging them in an interesting circle,
the dragon looked up to see her audience for a moment before going back
to what she was doing.

River Bluff's queen didn't expect praise for her clutch. She was doing her
duty, what she was born for. Orlaith was glad when she was finished though.
Crawling into the back of the Cavern, she curled up on the warm sand and
made herself comfortable, ready to rest with her children all around her.
}:I am done:{

"That's it." Standing up, the goldrider headed out and began to count.
Pleased when she was done, she looked back at the Weyrleader. "41 eggs,
K'sedel."

"She's done us and the Weyr proud."

Rhosyn climbed up there and stood beside him for a moment, looking at the
eggs. "She's ready to sleep, but we can go tell everyone."
