It had been a long flight, tougher this time for many reasons than the last
one. Rhosyn had been dealing with proddiness and rapid mood swings for
some time before it and the goldrider was glad they were over. Still and
all, when she woke up from her pleasure-induced stupor, she found her body
hurt which was also normal.
Moaning once, she figured out she had legs over hers. "If you don't move
soon, I'm going to pee this bed."
"Normally the only girl that does that on me is my daughter," K'sedel
commented as he moved himself.
Hearing his voice surprised her for a moment, but then she resigned herself. **Nikornath is it.. Well well well.** Her duty husband had kept himself in his office for another term after all. It put her at ease to deal with a known quantity.
"I can only hold it for so long. I'm not a herdbeast," she grunted before
climbing out and seeking the lavatory. Reaching her goal, she finished and washed her face before crawling back into the bed. "Did you think it would go this way again?" she asked him curiously as she got herself comfortable.
"I hoped so," he said, sitting up to talk. "Nikornath was so confident."
"Maybe we'll have even more eggs this time now that she's settled. I'd
like that. The weyrlings are doing well and now we'll have more." Orlaith's
frequent rising was good for the Weyr and it made Rhosyn secretly happy.
"I'd like to see that." The Weyrleader smiled at the thought. "Maybe there
could even be a gold."
Of course Orlaith had lain gold eggs in the past and Rhosyn would be happier than a wherry on a dead herdbeast if she did this time, but it was one of those things that just happened when they did. "That would be nice. Only three queens in the wing.. four would be better and five would be wonderful."
"We'll see in a month or so when she clutches, but if you want another
goldrider for your wing we can ask for someone willing to transfer in, if
that would help you."
"It really would. Honestly I hate to say it but Lenala is about good for
crackdust and Ariau is too young yet." She frowned, thinking about it. "Still, though, I would like to hatch one of my own here."
"We'll put the word out," he assured her. K'sedel got out of bed and pulled
his undershorts on. "Want a drink? They usually put a skin of wine and some
glasses in these flight rooms every morning."
"Yes please." Her soreness had made itself known so she was determined to
avoid moving again for a little bit.
He located the wine and poured her a glass and passed it over to her, before getting himself a drink. "We should make a toast," he suggested. "To a good flight, and a successful clutch."
She took it and raised the glass. "Here here!" Taking a good drink of her
wine, she subsided back into the bed. "You look quite serious toasting in
your shorts." Caught in that nice aftermath of the flight, she giggled,
spilling a bit of her wine in the bedfurs. "Ack sorry, I didn't pee, but I did wet."
"I think we can let the laundry take care of that," K'sedel said with a
laugh. "I'm sure they've seen far worse."
"Probably, though they may think you rode me so hard I ended up bloody."
Oh she was in fine fettle. Of course it helped that a satisfied Orlaith was
curled on her ledge with a bronze tail around hers, feeling so well she
wouldn't move for a long while. Drinking the rest of the wine down, she
looked around the room. "Did you say there was food?" She could trust
K'sedel. There would be food. There had to be because she was starving
after all that exertion.
"Some pastries," he said opening a food chest. "Rolls, cold meats, and some
cheese."
"Ahh good.." She sat up and watched him, wondering if there were plates or
if it was a free-for-all. She had already made a mess in the bedfurs anyway.
He lifted out the food, and took out a plate, passing it to his Weyrwoman.
"Enjoy the quiet now, before it all starts again."
"Aye I know. Now, we wait. Still, I sort of like the waiting. At least now
there's not the fear of ending up with a bad Weyrleader until the next
time." She took the food and began eating slowly. "I get to have another hatching too. I love those."
"I think we all do, and maybe this time my granddaughter will impress,
making it a family occasion as well."
"That would be nice. I really wish Briata would Stand, but I gave up on
pushing. Y'gel's daughter looks good. The other boy...he's not ready yet." She didn't know if he would work through his issues by the time the eggs were ready. "He would be good, though, I think. We need all the dragonhealers we can get."
K'sedel nodded. "And riders too."
"Aye. Your Wingthird's brother refuses to Stand as well, despite being a
likely candidate." She remembered that conversation now, thinking to
herself.
"I could have a word if you think that would help?"
"It might, though you'll have to approach it differently. No duty and all
that since apparently the boy wants to be a harper, not a rider." She
finished the food and laid back, sipping the wine.
"Take the time," he said putting his own plate down. "They'll be after us
soon enough."
"Yeah, I'm going to get a bath first before dealing with anyone I think."
Finishing with the wine, she kept her languid pose, considering her options
but not committing to actual movement yet.
"Enjoy," he said. "I think I'll head back to my weyr and bathe, and spend
some time with my daughter."
"Aye aye, Weyrleader." She mock saluted in her nude state then began to
put the wine away before searching for clothes to get to her weyr.
