"So where do we go first?" G'wen blinked in the bright light and
looked at Meledei for direction. He would have offered to carry
her...if she hadn't been taller than him, that is.

"Why don't we just make our way out of the residence hallways and start
in the crafter rooms. Go through the inside, then head outside?"
Meledei swung alongside G'wen with an air of someone well practised
with those crutches. Unfortunately. "The best stuff is outside."

"Great, lead away." G'wen stepped back so he didn't impede with her
crutches.

"Just be careful not to get to close. You might actually get thwapped
with my crutches." Meledei was, at least, able to put some pressure on
her leg now. She still needed the crutches, but she was getting
stronger. "Come on." She headed out and made sure G'wen was staying
near her. "You should go down to the beach while you're here."

"No problem." He didn't fancy having one of those crutches land on
his foot, after all. "And the beach..hmm..yeah.." As much as he
wanted to sit and admire the ocean, the thought of all those mostly
naked women and the men with their swimming trunks clinging to them,
leaving nothing to the imagination...ugh, he'd rather sit that one
out, thank you very much! "So how did Elleth take your scoring? Was
she really upset?"

"Yes, she was, but she didn't panic, which I'm proud of. A lot of
dragons would have been all over the place, but she remained calm."
Meledei was actually pretty fast on the crutches now. that she could
keep a pretty good clip. "I just hope it doesn't happen again." But
she also knew that while she was less likely to get scored compared to
riders in the upper wings, it wasn't a guarantee that she wouldn't.

"It shouldn't." He had never heard of a gold rider getting such a bad
injury, let alone having one get injured twice. "Are you guys low on
wingriders or something?"

"No. A greenrider wasn't where she was supposed to be." Meledei
shrugged. She wished the woman had remained in formation, but it
hadn't happened that way.

"Well, that happens a lot. My da's weyrmate rides in the Weyrleader's
wing and that stuff happens all the time." He gave her a quizzical
look.

"Doesn't sound like your Weyrleader is doing his job then." That
didn't sound good at all. Of course injuries were going to happen but
'something like that' didn't happen all the time in _N'vanik's_ Wing.
"If she had been where she was supposed to have been, this wouldn't
have happen."

"There's nothing wrong with G'nir's performance." G'wen bristled a bit
at that, not liking any bad words being spoken about his Weyrleader.
They, after all, didn't have an injured gold rider in their Weyr.

"But you said stuff like this happens all the time." Meledei pointed
out with a shrug. "If it happens all the time, doesn't that mean
something's wrong?"

"No, it means that's how it is, fighting Thread." He gave her a 'look.'

"But stuff like that shouldn't happen _all_ the time." People got
hurt, Meledei knew that, but riders and dragons getting out of
formation shouldn't be a normal thing.

G'wen stopped and took a deep breath, as he just felt like he was
about to go off on his friend. And that's not what he had come here
for. Maybe it was the injury that was making her seem a bit
argumentative. He cocked his head at her. "Can we change the subject
and agree to disagree on how wings are run? I came here to cheer you
up not fall out as mates." He grinned and reached out to tap her on
the shoulder.

"Sure. I don't want to get in a fight." Meledei gave her friend a
grin. "Come on, let's pick up the pace and see if we can give you the
whole tour before you have to leave.

"Great!"
