Description: The three of them sit down to discuss the upcoming exodus.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 20 of Turn 6
The Headwoman was scratching her head. Soon, she would have some of her
space
back and she was grateful for it. However, she needed a list of who and what
and
when so that she could arrange transport with the Weyrleader. So they
were all on
the same page, she decided to get them all together. So Qorri headed
to N'vanik's
office since it was bigger.
Maemira, having been summoned to the meeting, made her way towards the
Weyrleader's office as well. As she rounded the corner, she spied the
Weyr Headwoman. "Qorri, how are you today?"
"Well enough, thank you. And yourself?" She had dealings with the other
woman,
but she wouldn't say she knew her well. As it was, she wondered if Maemira
would
be going now or staying with the others behind.
"All is well," Maemira replied, "the big move is fast approaching. I
assume that is
the nature of our meeting?"
N'vanik came down the hall. "Hello ladies." He had a few hides tucked
under his arm.
"Indeed. We need to know how much assistance you expect us to provide and
when
so the Weyrleader and I can start to figure out schedules and the
like." She didn't want
to disrupt her normal tasks that had to be done.
N'vanik opened his office door and stepped aside. "Ladies first."
Qorri headed in and took her usual seat, adjusting her hides and the like to
take notes.
Maemira followed suit, taking a seat. "Weyrleader," she acknowledged
with a smile. "First, we'd all like to thank you for your hospitality.
Even though much of the Hall is looking forward to the move, we'll
never forget what Dolphin Cove has done for the Harper Hall."
"And we'll miss you. The entertainment is going to suffer once you're
gone." N'vanik wouldn't have minded if the Harper Hall stayed
permanently.
"A few of them will stay so we won't be totally bereft of harpers." Qorri
looked down at her notes to mark some of the questions she had.
"I know I, for one, have enjoyed mine time here at the Weyr. It will
be an adjustment to go back to Hold-life once again." Maemira
remarked. "Okay, now down to business. What do we need to address
first?"
"As I see it, the most important will be how many people are going and
how many are staying so I know who I still need to provide quarters for.
And that will tell us how many will need transport." Qorri checked that
off her list.
"Well, I know that I'll be going as they will need _much_ help to get
the kitchens and the Hall up and running before _everyone_ arrives.
Which of course means that those who are staying behind will need a
bit more tending to by you and your staff," Maemira replied. She began
counting in her head those whom she knew were going and those whom she
knew would be staying or coming later.
"Do you have an assistant that might be counted upon?" Qorri knew she
usually had one girl that could handle the problems if she was sick or
unable
to get out of bed.
"Yes, Balala will be able to assist and fill in as needed. She's
fairly new to running things, but I've been working with her for the
past months to train her to my satisfaction. I'll send her to see you
first thing in the morning so you can speak with her. She will still
need guidance, but she can handle things as long as she doesn't have
to make major decisions on her own." Maemira paused. "I believe about
a quarter of the hall will be making the move initially with the rest
to follow as soon as the other wings are opened. I will, of course,
come back here as needed but I fear the new hall will demand most of
my attention."
"So, Weyrleader, are you going to do this in waves then?" Qorri didn't
know just how he planned to work it out, but that was his business.
"I'll give you about a wing's worth of riders, and they'll need to
make a few trips back and forth to get everyone and their things over
to the new Hall," N'vanik said. "And I'll give you two or three riders
for transport and messenger duty after the move since I figure
there'll be a lot of communication between here and there."
"Eventually, they can use the permanent watchrider right?" Qorri knew
there was always one assigned to Emerald Falls Hold.
"Thank you Weyrleader," Maemira replied. "That is very generous and it
will be very helpful until we can get everyone settled in the new
Hall."
"I want to help as much as I can, even if I'm sad to see you go," he said.
"So Maemira, if you want to put your people into groups, we can assign
each rider to them, making things go a bit faster, I think." She knew it
would
be easy with the families.
Maemira nodded towards Qorri. "I will have the lists prepared for you
first thing in the morning. I thank you both for all your help as we
make this transition. I know, I, for one, will miss being here. So
close to the water, and the generous hospitality that you have offered
to all of us during our time here."
"Feel free to visit any time you like," N'vanik said. "You're always
welcome at Dolphin Cove."
