**Can you please ask Orlaith if her rider is free?** K'sedel asked of his
bronze, who dutifully relayed the message.
}:Mine is walking from the smiths:{ Rhosyn had gotten her agenothree tanks
filled up and the Weyrwoman was headed back through the tunnels to her
weyrledge to store her gear.
**Would you ask her if she would slip by my office, tell her I have some of
that iced juice I know she likes,** K'sedel asked of his bronze.
}:The Weyrleader offers juice:{ Orlaith sent on.
Rhosyn almost smiled at K'sedel's way of luring her. He did know her well
in some respects. She thought back to the night of the hatching and wondered if he had heard what had happened and what that was going to mean. Sighing, she stored her things then walked slowly to his office. When she reached the door, she just walked in. "Aye?" She searched his face, trying to test his reaction.
He gestured to a seat. "Can I pour you some of this?" A glass was in his
hand, a jug on the table.
She got comfortable and nodded, putting her hand out for a glass.
It was moments before a glass was filled and passed to her. "How was the
actual hatching?" he asked. He'd known pretty quickly that his granddaughter hadn't impressed. Part of him had wanted to go over there and comfort her, but she'd been so insistent that she only wanted her father and siblings there.
"That part was fine. They had plenty of healthy dragonets so it was a good
showing for the new pair. There were a few close calls and an accident, but
other than that, everyone came out okay." Rhosyn recalled the incident with
the young dragonet.
"Accident?"
"One of the greens kept looking for her rider and ended up hurting her in
the process before impressing. She wasn't hurt too bad though." Rhosyn had seen a lot worse.
"At least she found her rider, if they don't..." K'sedel let his voice trail off. It was a rare occurrence, and the duty of the Weyrleader, or the rider of the dragon that sired the clutch, to take any unmatched hatchlings on their first and last trip /between/.
"I know." Rhosyn didn't like to think about that and she really hated it
when it happened and usually blamed the searchriders for being idiots. "They needed a good hatching to solidify their flight so it worked out."
"I didn't know whether to be pleased or relieved that my granddaughter
didn't impress this time."
"It'll come when it's her time. Of course, it's in her blood so it'll likely happen someday." Rhosyn smiled, playing with her glass. "You'll always worry though, I guess. If she impresses a fighting dragon and has to go up there, it'll be hard. Still, if she did, there would be nothing to stop it." Her eyes met his as she thought about his family.
"Just like I worry about all the wings here, if she does impress though I
know her father will be watching out for her."
"That's right," the goldrider agreed as she poured more juice.
"And afterwards? Dolphin Cove puts on a good feast."
"Well, I'm sure you heard about the little...incident." She grabbed one of
his stylii and began to play with it. It didn't really bother her, though
she knew N'vanik was upset about it.
"I did hear there was a Holder who might have been a little under the
influence."
"Well, that's true. Honestly, I didn't care about myself but when I saw my
dress... The wretched idiot. Briata had worked herself almost to death and
I couldn't have that. There was also the matter of the Weyr's pride and
all." She smiled, thinking about the ridiculous situation in hindsight.
"Once N'vanik was swinging, though, I guess I was forgotten. All the Holders are probably calling me the Whorewoman when I'm sure Janani probably has a lot more fun than I do."
She shrugged, not giving a whit what the rest thought about her, though she
wondered if K'sedel would be upset with her. Old training kicked in and
Rhosyn considered her lack of manners during a formal occasion.
"I hope N'vanik wasn't too abrasive - he can be a little hot headed at
times."
"Lord Corowal stepped in, but it was interesting anyway. Things did settle
eventually." She had never met that man before, so it was a new experience.
"Have you met him?"
"N'vanik, or the Lord Holder?" asked K'sedel.
"The Lord Holder," she nodded. K'sedel had been to the other hatching at
Dolphin Cove so she knew he knew who N'vanik was.
"Only briefly," said K'sedel. "I have it on good authority though that he's
getting his hold into shape, or the shape he wants it to be in at least."
"I imagine so. He had the air of a capable man about him." She thought back
on her observation of him, then nodded. "Anyway, after all that mess, I
decided it was time to come home and Y'gel brought me back. I did learn something, though. My friend, R'enh from Vista Point, is N'vanik's new Wingsecond."
"That must have been a nice surprise for you then."
"Most definitely. I haven't seen him since I came here." Rhosyn put the
writing instrument down and drank some of the leftover juice. "He said he
likes Dolphin Cove."
"Probably the weather. If you discount the occasional hurricane, it's nice
there most of the turn."
"It's hotter there than here. I don't think I could take that." Rhosyn's
shake of the head and second gulp of juice attested to that.
"The humidity isn't so bad though. But it does take time," admitted K'sedel. "The one thing I miss from Dream's End though is a proper winter. I know Nikornath and I can go and find some snow if we want to, but I miss watching those first few flakes fall."
"Mmm...you could find it easy for certain. I don't know..I don't like being
so hot, but after so much of this I don't think I could handle the cold
anymore." She had dealt with it at Dragonsfall during her visits.
"Well the next hatching will likely be at Dragonsfall, and that one I do
hope to attend."
"Good deal. It's one of their juniors, isn't it?" She was trying to think in her head of which one. Rhosyn wanted to see Hygalia again, so she looked
forward to going to Dragonsfall.
"I believe so," K'sedel said. "I think I heard that she was caught by the
Weyrlingmaster's bronze, and that they hope for a good clutch."
"Sounds about right." She finished off her current cup and stretched her
legs.
}:I itch:{ came an unceremonious announcement.
**Shall I come to fix it immediately?**
}:Of course:{
Rhosyn smiled at her dragon's tone. "Unfortunately while I wish I could sit
here and bother you all day, I have to go tend to an itch. Someone is not
happy." She rolled her eyes, though her love for her queen was such that she did get up and ready herself to head straight there.
"You better go see to her then," K'sedel said with a smile.
