Jaylene

Im're must have passed out, since he had no recollection how they had
ended up to the ground.

He was still hanging to Gormth's neck ridge, since the straps had been
partially eaten away by Thread. Gormth was trashing around in panic.
Some one was trying to reach Im're to get him off the blue's back.
"Jaylene?" Im're asked groggily and at the same time tried to send
soothing thoughts to Gormth. But his own mind was clouded by pain and
blood loss.

The greenrider heard her name and snapped out of her depression at
seeing Jayonne's young friend so badly injured. She jumped up on the
blue's shoulder, being careful not to get near his injury, to try and
help the healer reach Im're.

}:Gormth! Listen to me, they're trying to help you but you need to
listen to us and calm down:{ Reanth said to the blue, as she tried to
link her neck around his to get him to stop.

:}Gormth!:} Commanded Aughashyth }:healers cannot help until you are
calm.:{ Y'gel yelled to the younger assistants who were trying to get
near the thrashing blue to stay back. **Call Orlaith, we need gold to
calm him down enough to treat him.** It was impossible for the healers
to get near the injured dragon without being injured themselves.

}:Orlaith! Gormth is panicked and we need you.:{ Aughashyth called to
the queen.

Im're lost his hold and started to slip down. Jaylene managed to
catch him and pointed to one of the lads by the dragon to reach up and
unbuckle the straps so they could at least get the boy off his injured
dragon. She closed her mind to what could possibly be happening to
the panicked blue. This was just too much like the events that led to
her brother J'lan's death two turns ago.

"Jaylene," bellowed Y'gel, "Get away from there until Orlaith arrives!"
The blue wouldn't hurt his own rider but that didn't extend to others
around him and a panicked dragon thrashed unexpectedly. Just like
_that_ the blue moved knocking the boy away from where he'd tried to
climb at the other rider's request.

Y'gel rushed in against his better judgement and used a large knife to
slash the straps then engulfed both Jaylene and Im're in a vice like
grip and pulled them clear. **Call M'galec** "Foolish woman, you
could have gotten that child killed." He growled angrily in her ear.
"Now let the healers do their jobs. You do yours." He banished her
from his thoughts and ran back one more time to help the boy get
clear.

A healer heard the urgent summons and came at a run. "What do we have
here?" he asked as he tried to take in the situation.

"Injured pair. The blue is out of control and we're trying to keep him
calm. Just pulled the rider off. He's right there," said Y'gel
pointing to where Jaylene was with Im're. "Sorry, don't know his
condition." He desperately hoped the queen would arrive soon.

}:I come:{ she answered the bronze. Once the rain came down, all the wings
started to make their way back to the Weyr, with the sweepriders sent out to
look for errant burrows. The big Queen came out above the Star Stones and
landed with a huge thump, sending sand up as she folded her wings. A small
dot, Rhosyn came down carrying her agenothree tank, curious as to what was
going on. She was covered in black with clear space when she took her goggles
off.

}::Gormth, stop now!{ came Orlaith's clear voice into his head. }:We will help
you and yours:{ She lumbered over so her whirling yellow eyes were above him
and her unmistakable bulk could be seen by the blue.

"Do you need help?" The Weyrwoman could scrub up if need be. She was already
handing off her gear to one of the surrounding candidates as fast as she could.

"I haven't been able to get close yet, but probably yes." he said as
he got closer to the calming blue. "Thank you for coming so quickly."
Gormth whimpered and obeyed the queen. He was in pain and just wanted
the pain to go away.

**We'll be all right, we'll be all right,** Im're finally got thought
to his lifemate. He cling to that thought like it was a lifeline.
**We'll be all right. Just let them take care of you.**

Gormth turned his head to look his rider and hissed when the
movement sent another wave of pain from his injured shoulder.

** Stay still! ** Im're managed to command him. Gormth's pain was
mingled with his own and he had to struggle to stay conscious. Who knew
what Gormth would do if he passed out again?

"Hey kiddo," Jaylene said, smoothing his hair back from his face.
"Hey, focus on me. Remember that time we all had that pint in the
dinning Hall and you thought my brothers and I were going to steal
yours? Remember that?" She had shifted up to his head as she talked
so the healer could work on his hip and thigh.

"I remember," Im're replied with voice groggy with pain.

"Okay then." Good, he was focusing on her and not on what was
happening to him and his blue. "Remember how you got J'zen all
embarrassed? Hang in there and maybe we can get you on a date with
him, eh?" She smiled down on him and held his good hand whilst still
stroking his hair with her other hand.

Im're tried to laugh but it hurt too much. "Ouch, don't make me
laugh," he asked.

The blue was calming under the queen's control and
Y'gel was able to see the extent of the scoring. on his shoulder. He
approached Im're and squatted down next to the pair. "Is there any
injury other than his shoulder?" he asked first followed by, "I'll
need your permission to approach as soon as I can to get the ichoring
under control."

"I don't know, his wing did take some battering from the wind. Go
ahead," Im're replied. It was hard to concentrate through the pain.

Meanwhile, Rhosyn had scrubbed herself up. She spared M'galec
a wary glance, then walked towards Gormth to have a look. Unlike
any other, she had no fear. He wouldn't dare harm her, Orlaith wouldn't
allow it. "The ichor first, Y'gel-quickly! And he'll need sutures and
cleaning...." Her eyes roamed, glad that /between/ had frozen the
thread.

She motioned for an apprentice to come forward with what they needed.
It would take the two of them.

Y'gel plunged his hands into the cleaning solution to scrub them
quickly. Sleeveless during a Threadfall he didn't have to worry about
his shirt being stained when he followed with the redwort. With
practiced movements his assistants fell into place holding the things
they'd need. Dipping a pad into redwort he cleaned the wound and
examined it relying on Orlaith to keep the blue calm and quiet. He
stood a little to one side to keep his bulk out of the Weyrwoman's way
so she could see.

He slathered numbweed over the wound. "Not to the bone," he said then
"Forceps. We'll have to pick this thread out of here. We have to get
it all." A boy ducked closer with a bucket of water to receive the
dead fragments.

Jaylene watched what they were doing for a moment before asking Im're,
"How are you doing? That numbweed working yet?"

"Starting to," Im're murmured.

Roldar had been tending to some of the other injured. As soon as he'd
made sure that his latest patient was secure, he moved over to where the
crowd had gathered. His eyes scanned the group and rested Jaylene and
the healer.
"Do you need any assistance?" He asked, leaving the question open to
anyone to answer.

Rhosyn held a bottle, flushing the wound as Y'gel picked out the dead
matter. The goldrider kept in touch with Orlaith, who was constantly
speaking to Gormth. When that was done, she held up a suture for him,
preparing to hold the tissue together so he could sew it up.

Y'gel plucked the needle and suture out of her fingers with an
efficient "Thank you." Working quickly he got the wound closed without
the slightest pucker. Another cleaning of the wound and then more
numbweed followed that. After what Im're had told him he then began a
thorough inspection. "Do you want to check this whole side? I'll take
the other just to make sure we get the minor stuff as well. "

"Okay Im're, the worst is over, for Gormth," Jaylene told the prone
boy. With a jerk of her head, she motioned for Roldar to come forward
to help. Im're could use all the help that was on hand.

Im're nodded. With Gormth calming down, he became more aware of his
own injury.

Y'gel looked over to where the other healers were attending to the
rider. Gormth seemed to be more settled and calm. He came
around and bowed to the queen. "Thank you Orlaith," he said and then
ducked under the his wing headed for Rhosyn. "Thank you very much for
coming so quickly."

She brought herself up from where she was crouching. "It's my duty."
With the high of threadfall and the trauma tapering to an end, Rhosyn
began to feel her exhaustion. She needed a bath and a rest before dinner.
Then, the Weyrleaders would get Y'gel's report. She wiped her face, sparing
another look at Gormth. "I don't think he'll need help moving, but if he does.."

"Thank you Weyrwoman. Boys bring a barrel of water and keep the trough
filled." He motioned them forward. "He must not become dehydrated. He
lost some ichor there."

Jaylene looked down at Im're. "You're going to be alright, lovely.
Gormth is okay,
you boys are going to get through this." Thank the shell for that.
She sighed and kissed his forehead.
