Briata

Briata

It hadn't taken very long for Briata to get the sketches drawn out once
she'd put together a few ideas in her head. She'd had them ready by the
time she went to bed the night prior, so the next day she went ahead and
made her way back to the Weyrwoman's office. This time, she was not empty
handed, the parchment in her hands posting the drawings. There was also
some blank parchment and some charcoal in case the Weyrwoman wanted to
discuss about putting different aspects of the designs together into
something different. One never knew.

The door came into view and Briata drew near. She reached up with one hand
and knocked lightly upon it, then entered once she was given leave to do so.
"Weyrwoman," she greeted along with a nod. "I have those sketches."

"Oh good!" She pulled her chair up to her desk, and gestured for Briata to
sit and lay them out so she could look. Rhosyn wasn't very feminine in some
respects, but every now and again, she liked to get a nice dress.

Briata shifted the parchment and lay out each one on the desk. There were
three dresses. One was sleeveless, the collar clasping around the neck,
then coming down over the breasts and then tucked under in a high waistline. The
skirt was long and flowing, the back low, but not so low that it was
immodest. There were little designs upon it, embroidery, perhaps, that she would add
to embellish, but it was discreet, just enough to tease the eye.

The second was a cap-sleeved garment with a rounded neckline that sported a
bit of cleavage. A tight corset like bodice would add shaping and sweet
lines. The waist came down in a point and from there the skirt flared out. There
was a bit of embroidery on this as well, but it was reserved for the torso.

The last was completely sleeveless, the low neckline tantalizing, but still
not immodest. It came around, tightening about the torso with gathers that
cascaded over the curves. The skirt continued with a waterfall, multiple layers
colored in grey, black, and white to indicate different shades. "I didn't add any
colors. I thought you could choose them once you saw a style you liked."

"I like the third one." Normally, she didn't dress that feminine. This time,
though, for that very reason, Rhosyn wanted to show off the female part of herself.
She wanted everyone to know she had walked into the Weyr.

Briata pulled the other two off the desk and set them upon her lap. "This
one." She nodded, taking out a bit of charcoal so she could write some
notes. "Do you know what colors you wish it to be? It can be a single
color or multiple colors if you prefer."

"Well, the Weyr's colors would be obvious. However, if we were talking
about what would compliment me, I'd say something in the red family."
Briata knew more about clothes than she did.

Briata looked up and leaned back. Her eyes settled upon the Weyrwoman,
studying, examining. "To be honest, I would suggest shades of blue or
green. Speckled with some silver embroidery." She motioned to the
parchment. I can have it concentrate on the bodice, or on the skirt, or
have it all over. It would be a dazzling effect, I'm sure. But with your
coloring, I would lean toward blue or green."

"Allright then...how about the green?" She watched Briata, trying to picture
it in her head. "But wouldn't green go better with gold embroidery?" She had
seen blue with silver, but always green and gold.

"Green can go with either...but I think the silver embroidery would enhance
your coloring better." The gold would go as well, but it would blend in
more, she thought. "I think it would help you to stand out a little more."

"Could we do a small mock up, sort of? To hold up and look at?" She had
never done anything like this before.

"Certainly. I can draw out the dress in the two color combinations and
allow you to see what it looks like," Briata replied amiably. It was always best
to give the customer as much information as possible so they were happy with
the end result - she knew that much!

"Good.." She was out of her depth, but she had to admit, it was sort of a
little fun.

"I'll probably have those done by the day after tomorrow." If not by
tomorrow. It wouldn't take Briata long, but it depended on how long her other
responsibilities took. "I can send you a message to meet again and let you look."

"That'll be fine." Tomorrow was going to be a big work day. She had plans
to speak with some of the crafters about things the Weyr needed done. Annual
maintenance was better than waiting for everything to fall apart, in her
eyes.
