Description: R'enh runs into Meledei when delivering some reports to the records room.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 18 of Turn 6
R'enh finished up the last of his reports on the wing's performance
and had reviewed them with N'vanik. Now they just needed to be filed.
So he trudged to the archive with an arm load.
Opening the door he called out. "Escuse me, Anyone here?"
Meledei looked up, the only one in the room at the moment. One ink
stained hand slipped up to press a strand of hair behind her ear, that
strand an escapee from the tail she had pulled the rest of her tresses
into. Her smile was quick to come and she nodded to the man. "Well
hello again."
R'enh's face split into a grin. "Hello yourself! Where do you want
these?" It was his first time to the archive and he knew better than
just set them anywhere. Archivists tended to get a bit testy with
bronzeriders who just dropped records without asking.
"You can just give them to me." Meledei extended her hand to accept his
burden. "I'll make sure they're filed properly."
He reached out carefully watching around the sides as he deposited
them into her waiting arms. "How do you like it here in the bowels of
the Weyr?"
"I like it outside much better to be honest." Meledei offered a
small, resigned smile. "But hey, it could be worse. I could have to
constantly clean out the privies and the like." She set aside the
stack of parchment to be placed into the proper section once she took
care of some other files that she had been working on first.
"Not as a gold rider," he smiled and leaned against the door. "So is
that why you like the midnight swims?"
"Oh. Well, no, not really. I just like to swim." Meledei ducked her
head and fished through the records. "And...I was just...well,
pouting I guess."
He laughed. "Yeah that I can believe."
That didn't make Meledei laugh - quite the opposite. Her lips furled
downward in a frown. "What do you mean by that?"
His hand both went in the air. "Hey, I didn't say you were pouting. I
just agreed with you." He backed away a step with a twinkle and a
grin.
Meledei rolled her eyes and shook her head. "You're awful." She
muttered but there was no real heat to her words. "So are you still
going out late or have you managed to reconcile the time difference
now?"
He moved closer again when it became apparent she wasn't going to
attack. "Yes, I've been told that before... Many times." He thought he
would but was still having a bit of a struggle so he shook his head.
"Getting there but still a little rough."
"You seem to be settling in okay in other ways." Meledei a gesture
that pointed out the knots he wore - bronzerider, and wingsecond.
"That was a fast promotion."
He just shook his head, "It's all about being in the right place at
the right time. I applied for the position when I got here. N'vanik
decided in my favor. Now all I need to do is prove him right."
"Why do I have a feeling that you will prove yourself." Meledei gave
him a half grin. "You seem the sort to make sure that you do so."
He smiled back at her. "Because I will? I always give my best effort
at whatever I set out to do, so does Mnoranth."
"Well then I wish you the best, Bronzerider." Meledei's words were
formal, but her tone was quite sincere. "We certainly can use all the
good bronzeriders we can get." At one time the Weyr was extremely
low, but now the number had, with clutches and transfers, increased.
It was definitely better than it had been.
"I'm sure I'll be back again soon, if only to stay in your good graces
lovely Goldrider." His manner said he was quite happy to be one of
_her_ bronzeriders.
"I don't think it's _my_ good graces you need to worry about."
Meledei pointed out with a soft laugh. "I think you might want to
think about the good graces of the Weyrwoman, though I won't complain
if you want to stay in mine too!"
He smiled "Any bronzerider worth his salt would wish to be in your good graces."
