N'vanik

N'vanik

N'vanik knocked on the door, remembering all the other times he
knocked on this same door. Strange to know that it belonged to someone
else now.

Janani rose and walked across the room. Pulling open the door, she
greeted her visitor, "Hello..." she started, then seeing it was
N'vanik, she smiled. "N'vanik. Come in." She stepped back and allowed
him to enter.

"I brought wine. Thought we could make an evening of it." He stepped
into the weyr and looked around. All the decorations, even the
furniture, was different.

"Well, in that case, welcome." She closed the door and took the bottle
of wine, carrying it over to the small circular table she'd had
brought in. She'd added a special display case for some of her
favorite pieces, mostly metal work or woodwork that some of her former
friends and lovers had had made for her. Hanging on the walls were
some tapestries that she adored. One showed a golden queen flying high
through the skies. She had been honored when her own parents had had
that piece commissioned for her after she'd Impressed and made it
through her weyrling training.

"I haven't seen much of you since Angdelouth's Flight. I was beginning
to think you'd forgotten about me," she winked at him as she moved
over to a small bureau where she had a plate of cookies waiting.
Holding them up, she said, "I could call down for something else if
you'd like. I had these brought up a few candlemarks ago."

"No, I had dinner." He waved the cookies off. "I didn't forget about
you. I thought about coming by but ... it feels weird coming to this
weyr." He shrugged.

She smiled a bit sadly at his words, knowing he was still struggling
with the loss. She set the cookies down and picked up two glasses. "Do
you want to open the wine for us?" She asked as she placed the glasses
on the table. "Maybe it will make being _here_, in this place a bit
easier for you." She was curious about how close he and Traelyn had
been, but she hadn't yet felt it was her place to ask.

He took the bottle and opened it. "She's like a shadow that hangs over
everything. I don't mean to keep bringing her up, I just can't help
it."

"Tell me about her." Janani said taking the bottle from him and
pouring it into their glasses. "I feel like I hardly knew her. We
talked just briefly about duties while I was here, but she was never
very open or talkative to me. Help me understand what you are going
through, N'vanik. What was she like to you?"

He took a glass and sat down. "Sometimes I thought I loved her, but
now I think I loved the idea of what we could have had. When I won her
Flight, I thought things would be so different. For a little while it
was." Then came the Hatching Feast, where he found out just how
unimportant he was.

She frowned slightly. "I'm sorry things didn't turn out the way you
had expected between you." She sipped her wine and reached a hand to
touch his arm. "I'm not making any promises between us N'vanik. I need
you to know I'm not expecting anything, between us, I mean. We've both
had many Turns under our belts with history that cannot be easily
forgotten." She paused, sitting the cup down on the small table beside
her. "I would like us to be friends though," then she smiled, "friends
with certain perks of course," she winked at him and then leaned back
and retrieved her glass.

That sounded alright. "I want to get to know you, Janani. I mean, we
are stuck with each other after all." He smiled. "And I want this
shadow out of my life."

"I'm not sure about how to vanquish a shadow, but the other part,
getting to know each other, I think we can handle that. Would you
prefer we get to know each other better in words first and or actions
first?" She asked the last with a hint of a raised brow and a smile.
Honestly, he was downright attractive and she surely wouldn't deny him
her bed anytime he wanted to share it. "Whichever you choose first,
the other can come after, if you'd like," she added with a real smile
playing on her lips.

N'vanik downed half his wine in one long swallow. "Actions speak
louder than words." He set his glass on the table and got to his feet.

She didn't need to hear that twice. Rising herself, she moved to his
side and pulled his arm towards her bed. "The show me," she whispered,
reaching up to untie the laces that held her gown together.

He moved her hands away and untied her gown until her shoulders lay
bare. Then he brushed her hair aside and pressed his lips to her skin.
Their first time had been in the rush of the Flight, and afterward the
dragonlust had still been burning in them. Now he wanted to take his
time, to make every movement deliberate, to learn her body inch by
inch.

She tilted her head to the side, giving him better access as she
murmured her delight at the feel of his lips pressing on her skin. Her
hands reached under his tunic and played across his abdomen. She could
feel his muscles almost tremble under her fingertips.

N'vanik pulled off his tunic and let it drop to the floor. He went
back to kissing her, his lips teasing along the spot where her neck
met her shoulder. "This is my favorite way to get to know someone."

Her hands took full pleasure in his naked chest as they roamed and
traced the lines of his body. She could feel the scars that were a
part of nearly all dragonriders. They only made her desire to know
more about where each one came from. N'vanik was still a mystery to
her, as she knew she was to him. "Yes," she murmured, her own lips
eagerly toying with his earlobe.

It was a pleasant sensation, almost ticklish. He gave her a playful
nip and started to remove the rest of her clothing. Everywhere his
hands went, his lips soon followed.

Her body reacted to his touch almost instantly as she let forth moans
of pleasure. Her hands worked the clasp on his trousers even as he
made her almost forget everything but the feel of his lips leaving a
trail wherever they went. "Oh, N'vanik," she breathed, her body a
canvas for his lips to paint with their touch that seemed to make her
see bursts of colors behind her eyes.

He moved to help her, taking off his trousers and boots. He met her
eyes for a moment and a little smile crossed his face before he led
her to the bed. N'vanik was going to make sure she remembered this.

Her body was already tuned in anticipation. Her hands doing some
exploration of her own whenever she could. Her own lips curled into a
smile of desire and want. "Come to me, my Weyrleader," she murmured as
she sank down onto the bed.

Sweat cooled along his skin as he lay in the Weyrwoman's bed -- a bed
he had been denied for months. He watched Janani's face, a little
smile playing at his lips.

She smiled, a slow, satisfied smile. Her heart was still racing as she
turned her head towards N'vanik. "Actions _do_ speak louder than
words, I feel like we've gotten to know each other quite a bit better
in the last few moments."

He chuckled. "Yeah." There was a smug satisfaction in being in this
bed again with a woman who appreciated his skill.

"So," She breathed as she shifted on her side to gaze at him with a
smile of satisfaction on her face. "You said you wanted to know me
better. Was that enough or did you have something else in mind?" She
lifted her eyebrow questioningly as she trailed her fingers along his
chest.

He did want to know her better. He wanted to make sure she was
different. "Where are you from? It says in your records, but that's
not the same as hearing it from you."

Propping her head onto her hand, she watched him. "Well, I guess you
could say I'm from here and there. I've moved around quite a bit since
I Impressed, from Dragonsfall, to River Bluff, and now to here. So
I've had a taste of just about everywhere." She paused and lowered her
head back down to the pillows, tucking her arms in front of her, "but
as for where I came from before then. I was born in a smaller hold,
near Opal Cove." She reached her hand out to his arm. "Tell me about
you. Fair's fair, we need to learn about each other don't we?"

Old habits tried to rise up in him -- to hide, to give out as little
information as possible -- but he pushed it back. "I was born at Jade
Harbour Hold, then I was holdless for a while before I was Searched. I
Impressed at Vista point and moved around before ending up here."

Her fingers gently moved along him as her eyes met his. "How did you
end up holdless? Did you choose it or was it forced upon you?" Janani
had never _not_ had a place to call home, even if some of those homes
had been less appealing than others.

"My choice. I couldn't stand living at home anymore." Would his father
still call him worthless now?

"I can understand that," she murmured, gazing at him from the pillow
where she lay. "There have been times I wished I could have been
somewhere else, especially some of the Turns I spent under certain
Weyrwoman." She shuddered a bit at the thought. Some of them were just
downright brutal. "I guess I won't have to worry about that anymore,"
she added with a small smile.

"No." He ran a hand through her hair. "You're in charge now. Do you
like being in charge? Does it scare you?"

She closed her eyes and murmured a sigh of contentment. She loved the
feel of his hands in her hair. "I think, so far I like it. It's more
than I imagined, even though I'd worked just shy of being in charge
for so long." She paused as she thought about his second question. "I
don't know if I'm scared or not. I'm not easily intimidated, but there
_is_ alot to consider when you're not just thinking about yourself."
She shifted so she could capture his lips with a kiss, pressing her
body closer to his. "Does it scare you?" She asked rather
breathlessly.

He slipped a hand down to caress her hip. "It terrified me when I
first became Weyrleader." He smiled a little. "Be glad you didn't have
to deal with that. I'd never held rank, and there I was in charge of a
whole Weyr. One I wasn't even living at." The shadow moved over him
again, memories of Traelyn.

She gave him a half-grin, "Now _that_ would have been interesting for
sure, considering that this is my first time actually _leading_. It's
surprising how little some Weyrwomen allow the other goldriders to
do," she shook her head slightly. "From what I can tell," she
whispered softly as she touched his cheek at the look that crossed his
face, "you've become an excellent leader."

The praise embarrassed him. He wasn't sure he deserved it. "I try to
do my best."

"Hmmm, I like your best," she murmured, reaching her hand down to
tease him with her touch. "Perhaps you'd like to show me again, just
so I don't forget?" She gave him a sultry smile. They could talk more
after, right now she found she still wanted to enjoy him right where
she had him. "We have all night to talk, that is, if you want to
stay?"

He smiled. "How can I say no when you're being so ... encouraging." He
leaned into her touch.

"I have that way about me," she murmured huskily as she grinned at
him. It didn't take her long to encourage him even further, which made
her feel even more powerful. This time she forced him to sit through
her ministrations as she took control of the moment.
