Claiming the Weyr

Description: Gold Angdelouth rises to mate, confirming both Weyrwoman and Weyrleader.

Date: month 13, day 22 of Turn 5

N'vanik

Janani was just finishing up her morning bath when she felt Angdelouth
rise. She'd been watching the queen for days now as the color of her
hide had started to gleam a bright golden hue. It was nearly time, and
Janani knew it. It was just a matter of waiting it out and seeing if
any of the other queens would rise first.

Suddenly, she felt the ravenous hunger and whirling thoughts of her
dragon. Jumping up from the bath, she grabbed for the towel and
quickly wrapped it around her still wet body.

**Angdelouth! Do _NOT_ eat the herdbeasts!** Janani broadcast as she
ran, grabbing her bathrobe and exchanging it for the towel. Angdelouth
growled her discontent back as Janani felt her dive for the first of
the beasts, trying to eat every last drop, but Janani's will was
stronger and she held back the golden queen as she darted into the
Flight room.

}:I fly high today!:{ Angdelouth broadcast to the Weyr. }:Who will
chase me this day?:{ She taunted the males as she finished off her
third beast and jumped high into the sky, ready to begin the ritual
mating flight of a golden queen.

Beneath the surge of his dragon's emotions, N'vanik at first felt
relief. Out of the queenriders they had left, Janani was the most
capable and most willing. She'd done well in her short time as acting
Weyrwoman, rising to the challenges of settling a distressed Weyr and
reassuring Holders.

Loseth bugled his intent loud and clear. }:She is mine!:{ He was one
of the first to launch after the golden Queen, following just behind
the overeager young bronzes.

N'vanik took his place in the circle as doubt tried to take hold of
him again. After what had happened, did he deserve to be Weyrleader?
Should he have taken Loseth away?

}:Come and get me, my bronze beaus:{ Angdelouth taunted. }:None of you
are fast enough to catch me!:{ She zipped and twirled through the air,
spreading her wings wide as she savored the feel of the air flowing
over her.

Janani felt each muscle move as she became one with Angdelouth. She
could feel the air cascading, the beating of her dragon's heart as she
led the chase, taunting and teasing her pursuers, whom she knew would
never match her beauty or her strength. The Flight was exhilarating
for both as they darted up, higher and higher, wanting to soar to the
tops of the skies itself.

She glanced over her shoulder and could see the bronze hides giving
chase. It only thrilled her more, pushing her to fly farther and
longer than ever. As she turned once, she was nearly caught by an over
eager young one, but Angdelouth quickly dipped low and avoided his
grasp with a chortled laugh.

She knew they would tire soon and she would have to choose one, but
not quite yet. This was her shining moment and she wanted them to
fight for her.

N'vanik felt himself slip away, merge with Loseth in the sky. His
doubts started to fade as the bronze's determination flowed through
him. Loseth knew this Weyr belonged to him, and the teasing gold ahead
was his as well. He would claim her and show her what a strong mate he
was. He had no thought of his previous mate while he was caught up in
the thrill of the chase. There was only Angdelouth.

Yes, this Queen would be theirs, Loseth/N'vanik agreed. This Weyr
would still belong to them. They were strong, and they would lead, and
no one was going to take that away from them.

Angdelouth/Janani watched as some of the weaker fliers fell further
and further behind. She bugled her final challenge to those who still
chased her, urging them to fight their hardest. Angdelouth/Janani knew
they were the new Weyrwoman of Dolphin Cove and the joined pair wanted
to savor this amazing flight that confirmed their new position without
a doubt in the world.

}:Who will claim this glorious prize?:{ She taunted the bronzes, even
as she dipped further back to allow them closer. They would tire long
before she did, but even still, she could feel the strain begin to
grow in her own wing muscles. It was nearly time to choose.

Loseth kept pace with the golden beauty. Younger, weaker males fell
out of the chase and only the strongest were left. He had never shared
his rider's doubts, he knew he was the best and he would prove yet
again to this Weyr, _his_ Weyr that he and his rider were the only
ones fit to lead. }:You will be mine!:{ Soon, Angdelouth would make
her choice and he moved closer in anticipation. On the ground, N'vanik
reached out and tried to pull Janani to him.

Not yet though! Angdelouth/Janani zipped around and headed directly
for the bronzes. }:Catch me if you can!:{ She bugled as her wings
almost grazed across the backs of the bronzes. One of the young ones
titled and actually touched her wing. Angdelouth/Janani roared her
anger as she spiraled down into a nosedive. In her fury, she was
heading straight for the water below and only pulled up at the very
last second. She heard the sound of one of the chasers splashing down
into the water and her anger was replaced with satisfaction.

}:You do not deserve me! None of you!:{ She chortled as she dipped her
wingtip into the water before opening to her full wing span and
pumping herself back high into the sky. Higher and Higher. Faster and
further, none could compare. None could challenge her.
Angdelouth/Janani was the greatest of all dragons in that moment and
she trumpeted her jubilation.

Finally however, she knew that her pursuers would not be able to keep
pace with her long. The time had come. Tucking her wings in, she
glided gracefully back into the waiting wings of none other than
Loseth.

Loseth bugled and twined his neck and tail around his new mate.
}:Mine!:{ Possessive satisfaction filled him as he claimed Angdelouth.

Her wings wrapped with his as they tumbled together through the skies.
Her body entwined with his as they fell onto the waiting bed.
Angdelouth/Janani was Weyrwoman of Dolphin Cove and she had chosen her
Weyrleader!
