N'vanik

N'vanik

The world, and reality, was out there waiting for him. N'vanik wanted
to stay here, half-sprawled next to Rhosyn.

For her part, she knew she couldn't stay there long, especially since it
was midday. Someone was bound to come looking for her. Still, she could
say that was assisting N'vanik with some decisions perhaps. "What's she
like?" she said innocently, though it was obvious who she was referring to.

"You mean what _was_ she like." He rolled over as reality tried to
crash back into him.

"No. The other one. The new one." For all her confidence in public, Rhosyn
was a bit insecure in private at times.

"Janani?" He relaxed. "Nicer than your average goldrider, and independent.
She's got some fire to her, and I like that."

Rhosyn didn't know if she liked that. Two bulls tended to butt heads. "Nicer?
Oh, she has manners." That was a scathing remark, telling the world what
Rhosyn thought of manners.

"Not like that. Nice like a regular person, not nice like she's trying
to impress you."

**This doesn't sound good at all** Frowning, she rolled over to face away from
him, furiously plotting Janani's untimely death already in her head.

"Hey." He trailed his fingers along her arm. "You asked." Was she
jealous? The thought brought a smile to his face and he leaned close
to her ear. "She's nice, but whose bed am I in?"

"It's just...look, I've always been the screwup. I'm the one that talks too
loud and never does what the lady queenriders do." She huffed. "So no one ever
really came after me."

He felt guilty for it, but her words made him feel better about his
own insecurities. "Oh really? I seem to remember that _you_ were the
one that rejected _me_."

"Huh?" Her face was completely blank, which was almost comical as to the rarity
of when that happened.

"One of the Hatchings, back at Vista Point ..."

~*~flashback~*~

**That stupid cow** she thought inside her head as she walked to the
Dining Cavern where the feast would be held.
}: She only has two legs :{ came Orlaith's laconic voice.
**This is completely ridiculous. Just because I didn't want to wear
that stupid dress, I am not allowed to dance at the feast**
Rhosyn was fuming as she marched through the tunnels.
}:I am sorry. Your feet will feel better. And you can still eat:{

The junior weyrwoman had considered skipping the feast altogether, but
that would likely result in having to do extra hidework
for two months or more. **I have to smile pretty for all the Holders**
she thought sarcastically.
}: Be well mine. It will be okay, though I am sorry:{
Realizing she was upsetting her queen, Rhosyn tried to quell her
anger, but she entered the feast with a frown on her face.

It didn't take long for N'vanik to spot the pouty goldrider. She
seemed like a challenge, and he just couldn't pass it up. Smiling to
himself, he set down his drink and then headed over. "Hatching Feasts
are supposed to be happy, you know."

She looked up and noticed the knots and automatically wrote the
older rider off. **Probably just looking for a piece of ass**
"Of course they are," she replied, though her tone was quite cynical.

"Then why the frown?"

"Why do you care?" she asked, before reaching for an offered wineglass.
Taking it, she took a few drinks, then brought it down, wiping the red from
her chin that had escaped.

"Maybe I'd like to see you smile." He gave her a smile, trying to encourage her.

"And who are you?" She already knew what color he rode, but she didn't know
who *he* was. **I bet he thinks he's Faranth's gift to women too**

"N'vanik, rider of bronze Loseth. It's a shame we haven't been
introduced sooner." The truth was he'd been trying to acquaint himself
with the other goldriders, with dismal results. Rhosyn was the youngest,
and last on his list.

"Oh it is. Why?" She didn't think she needed to introduce herself since he
obviously already knew who she was. There was also the fact that the
Weyrwoman had been pushing her about her manners.

He leaned closer. "I hear rumors that you're a bit difficult. You
sound like someone I could get along with."

"Difficult...You think I'm difficult?" She stood up and finished off the wine,
leaving the empty glass on the table. "Well I'll show you difficult." She began
to head to the dance floor, despite the order she had received. **Who does
she think she is, queen of the world?**

N'vanik kept pace with her, his smile widening. "So there's truth to
the rumors." Maybe he should have gone after this one first.

And just as Rhosyn got there, she was spotted from the dais.
}:She says you aren't allowed:{
**Well tell her I think that's stupid**
}:She says you're to go to your weyr now:{ Orlaith's tone wasn't happy.

Knowing that as Senior Queen, the Weyrwoman could very well use her dragon
to make sure she was obeyed, Rhosyn stopped where she was. **Do I want to
put Orlaith in that position?** Frowning, she looked at N'vanik and back to the
dais. "Just so you know, I didn't want to sharding dance ANYWAY!" she shouted
to half the Weyr, leaving most of the Weyrfolk confused. She pushed N'vanik
out of her way before storming off to her weyr. **Let the stupid cow
explain that**

N'vanik stared after her for a minute, then turned to the crowd and
shrugged. "Women." He got a few chuckles from the men and rolled eyes
from the ladies.
~*~
"That was you?" She couldn't help it. Rhosyn put her head back and laughed.

N'vanik rolled his eyes. "I'm so flattered that you remember me."

"At the time, I had other matters to attend. Like the fact that the stupid
cow wouldn't let me dance." Rhosyn's smile turned to a frown as she thought
of many unpleasant memories back at Vista Point. "Never mind that, though.
We just got a late start." She giggled, falling back to the pillows.

"Maybe we should make up for lost time." He trailed his fingers down
her body. Being with Rhosyn felt _good_ and Faranth knew he needed
some distraction.

"You know, K'sedel won't wait that long. You've already been here for at
least a candlemark." She put a finger on his nose, tracing the lines. "Now,
if you wanted to come back after dark..."

He did a quick calculation. "That would be very late for me. I couldn't spend
the night, but ... we could spend a little time together." He'd had to deal with
the time difference before, when he and Trae ... he shut his mind against the
thought.

"Allright get going then. I have duties to get back to or they might just come
looking." To take the sting out of her quick goodbye, she gave him a kiss before
she went in search of her clothing. "And like I said, if you need anything from
me, just say so."

"Thanks." N'vanik sighed and rolled out of bed. "I guess I should go
talk to your Weyrleader."

"That'd be smart. He's as curious about this whole thing as I was." She jumped
into her shorts and left N'vanik to do what he needed to do.
