G'nir

G'nir

They had finished the meeting about the drills and Rhosyn found herself
watching G'nir. He was interesting,
but she wasn't sure about him. He wasn't like N'vanik. She sat there
quietly, then got up to leave. The goldrider
wondered if he was hungry. **You should play hostess** Sighing, she
approached him. "Are you leaving now or
would you like some lunch?"

"If you invite me to lunch, I won't say no," G'nir replied with his
charmer's smile. He was quite curious about
River Bluff's new Weyrwoman and was happy to grab an opportunity to know her
personally. All he got was other
people's opinions.

"All right, this way to the Dining Cavern." She led him through the tunnels.
Rhosyn wasn't the greatest at small talk,
but she recognized the silence as awkward. "Congratulations, by the way."

"Thank you. Congratulations to you too on a fine flight," G'nir replied.

"Aye now it's just a waiting game until we have new dragonets, which are
always fun." They were awkward little
creatures but then they became so beautiful and strong. When they reached
the Dining Cavern, she led him to her
table, sitting. When the drudge arrived, she put in her order and then
allowed him to ask for what he wanted.

G'nir gave the drudge his order and continued his conversation: "Hygalia is
pretty much tied to the Hatching Sands now that Genith has clutched too."

"Orlaith is a bit more flexible about that. I'm only there at night when I
sleep. Otherwise, I am still doing all of my
duties. She doesn't like to be bothered unless she has to be." Smiling as
she thought of her queen, she put some jam
on her biscuit, taking a bite out of it.

"Different Queens, different personalities," G'nir remarked.

"Indeed. They're all very different. So how do you like being Weyrleader?"
It wasn't a job for every man, certainly. Genith's
success spoke well of him, but it wasn't a guarantee.

"I like it. I feel like I was born to do it," G'nir's eyes shone with the
ambition.

"Well good on you then. And your Wingleaders are okay with your changes?"
She didn't know how candid he was going to be,
but she felt like she could at least ask the questions.

"If they aren't they are keeping it to themselves," G'nir said.

"Ah and what do you think of your Weyrwoman?" She always wondered what
K'sedel's answer to that same question would be
so she couldn't help herself from asking.

"She's a fine, capable, well-bred woman," G'nir said, using almost the same
tone he would have used for a runnerbeast.

Inside, Rhosyn was trying not to laugh. **Poor Hygalia** She might have to
tell her about that. "And what have you heard of me?"
Her tone was deceptively calm, though there was a note of amusement.

G'nir raked his brains to find a diplomatic way to express it. "That you're
very direct spoken," he said finally.

"Aye that I'll admit to. I don't like to waste time." Rhosyn always had
something to do.

"Very efficient," G'nir nodded, although personally he'd rather waste more
time and be more diplomatic. Of course, there were
also situations where being direct was the best approach.

"Well, we're glad to have you at River Bluff and we all hope the drills go
smoothly." Rhosyn popped a bit of tuber into her mouth.

"I hope so too. A drill between two Weyrs needs a lot of organizing," G'nir
said.

"Certainly. It's enough just to get one Weyr on the same hide." Rhosyn
thought he was a man of few words.
Maybe he was all action. **That could be good**

"It will be quite a spectacle, something worth seeing," G'nir was obviously
very excited about the idea.

"Indeed. I don't think I've ever seen that many dragons in one place before
so I wonder what it will be like myself."
She finished off her porridge and offered him a pastry.

"Come and see," G'nir suggested and accepted the pastry with a courteous
nod.

"Aye, I'm going. I'll be getting a ride, of course, but I wouldn't miss it
for the world." There would be a watchdragon
on duty and if Orlaith needed anything, she could get one of the older
dragons to take her back.

"I'll be waiting to meet you there then," G'nir said.

"Well I'm sure you want to get back to your Weyr, G'nir. Thank you for
sharing the meal with me, though." Rhosyn
allowed him to go, if he wished.

"It was a pleasure, Weyrwoman Rhosyn," G'nir replied, putting out all of his
charm with those few words.
