It hadn't been too long after the bronzerider had left her office that the
goldrider had found herself walking quickly to find K'sedel. She was still
fuming and she didn't care if she was half running through the tunnels
in her short shorts.
}:Nikornath, mine wants yours:{ The big gold was quite egg heavy and
she was sticking close to the Hatching grounds, the Feeding grounds,
and her weyr. It also meant that her mood was quite volatile and she was
feeling very protective over everything-including her rider.
}:He is in his office,:{ Nikornath told his mate. }:Would you like me to
tell him yours is coming?:{
}:It would be good to warn him I think:{ Orlaith answered, a wry tone
evident in her mental voice.
Changing directions, she made it in record time. Rhosyn's legs might be
short, but they could cover ground. Knowing he knew she was coming,
she exercised her right and entered without knocking, shutting the door
quickly behind her. "I cannot believe what I just experienced." She paced
the room, still thinking and reliving the conversation. "Thank Faranth he
didn't win the Flight. If it weren't for his dragon, I would strangle him."
"Strangle who?"
"M'galec," she answered simply then went around searching for something
to drink. "Comes to dispute my decision to let a girl Stand. I listen to him and his reasons, then I politely tell him that I will continue to let her stand. He can't accept that. Then he flat out told me I had no right to tell him anything, that he knows more than I do about candidates and weyrlings and riders and thread and everything else." She turned to K'sedel, her eyes wild. "He's going to tell R'syl and you about my incompetence. I told him he was dismissed when I really just wanted to say get the shells out of my office. I've been fighting thread the same time he has. Shells, he hasn't even been doing that has he? Has he even been in a fighting wing?"
"If he believes it's okay to disrespect someone above him that way, I don't
think he needs to be around the children. What kind of example is that?" She got quiet then, thinking. For her, that was dangerous.
"Slow down and sit down!" She looked as though if she'd had a flamethrower
M'galec would be toast. "Tell me again slowly so I can get it straight in my head."
She did take her seat then, bringing the drink with her. Taking a gulp, she
wiped her mouth and went through it again in her head. "He came in, saying
that he disagreed with my decision to allow a candidate to stand. He claimed she was reckless and didn't respect authority as she ought to. I've spoken to her myself as well as with the Headwoman and R'syl and I told her she could."
"I listened to his concerns and then told him politely that while I
understand them, that I was going to allow her to Stand. However, if something changed, then she could lose the privilege. Well, he didn't like that. He proceeded to tell me that I didn't have his turns of experience training people to be dragonriders and didn't know my duties. I explained to him that my duty was to ensure that my queen had the best candidates for her eggs. Well, when he figured out I wasn't going to let him have his way, he began to tell me that I was only here for Orlaith to lay eggs and that I was incompetent. He'd be reporting me."
"In short, he committed insubordination." She watched K'sedel carefully.
This would be the first test between them. **Would he believe her or would
he stand by a rider he'd known for turns? Would he deal properly with such
behavior or would M'galec get a pass?**
"I see. M'galec is rather set in his ways I'm afraid. But he usually knows
where the line is." K'sedel was beginning to be aware that he would soon
have two very firey personalities to deal with. "This girl, she's been
passed as physically and mentally fit by the healers?"
"She has," Rhosyn said simply.
"And the Headwoman has spoken to her about her attitude?"
"The reports I received stated that it was merely teenage rebellion, that
she'd settle down. I've spoken with the candidate myself and that seems to
be the case." Sitting back, Rhosyn wondered just what K'sedel was going to
do.
"Then if she's acceptable to both you and Solieira, she's acceptable to me
as a candidate," K'sedel told her.
"Which brings us back to the original problem," she replied, drinking a
little more to calm her nerves. Actually the goldrider was exerting serious
self control compared to what she wanted to do.
"Let me speak to R'syl. M'galec is his 'second. I'll make it clear that
when it comes to candidates the final say comes from you and Sol, not
M'galec. We can't afford a hatchling to be forever lost /between/ because a
silly decision stopped their rider being where they could be found."
"Aye, the only other thing I ask is that it be made clear to him that if he
can't speak to me without an amount of respect, then he won't speak to me at all." Rhosyn thought she deserved at least that much.
"I'm sure he'll understand that once R'syl has spoken to him, and if that
doesn't work, then I'll be having a little chat with him," K'sedel told her. Whatever M'galec's personal opinions may be, they didn't need to be shared with the whole Weyr, it was potentially disruptive.
"Allright then." She finished her drink, then looked at the empty glass.
"Now I have to make sure Orlaith gets fed since I don't think she's fast enough to be catching any herdbeasts at this point." The idea of butchering up one of the animals was beginning to appeal to her. **Good way to get out my anger**
She stood up and put K'sedel's skin back in its place. "Everything else is
going well, right?"
"Everything is going well, and will only get better once those eggs are on
the sands."
"Well you know where I am if you need anything," she said easily as she left his office. "I won't bother you anymore. See you at evening meal."
