N'vanik

"Hey Tavia. How's she doing?" N'vanik looked down at the woman on the cot.

She looked up at him with eyes concerned. "Better, but she isn't out of the
woods yet."

"What are her chances?"

She didn't quite know how to tell the Weyrleader that it depended
entirely on the woman's will. She'd seen worse cases pull through and
less severe ones give up. "It's still to early to tell. Do you know
her well?"

"Not well. But she's my responsibility." He kept looking at the
Threadscored greenrider, resting in a fellis induced sleep.

"Does she have a werymate?" Tavia didn't know the woman that well.
"Sometimes familiar voices talking to them can help them want to come
back." she hadn't had time to check on the womans lifemate yet though
she'd heard the green wasn't quite as badly hit as her rider.

"I don't know." Guilt colored his voice. "I don't think so." He'd have
to check with someone.

She reached out and touched his arm "Hey, it's alright." she shook her
head with sad eyes. "This isn't your fault, Thread did this to her not
you. I'm sure she'll be grateful you came to check on her."

"I can't keep everyone from getting hurt, but I can check on them when
they do." Even if he didn't know if the person had a weyrmate or not.

"Yes, I know you do and so do they. Your riders know you care what
happens to them." she looked back down at the woman, she was lucky
that the score was down her back. She would take some time to recover
but she would be able to fly again if she pulled out of this. "We'll
find out if she had a weyrmate or friends to come visit."

"Yeah." He looked down at the injured rider for another moment. "Let
me know if anything changes."

"Of course" she said "I'll get hold of you right away. Just then the
woman stirred and began mumbling. "Thats a good sign," she said
quickly before bending over the bed.

N'vanik had been ready to move on to the next patient, but now he
didn't want to leave. "Is she gonna wake up?"

"She may." she said looking up at the Weyrleader. "Marellic can you
hear me?" She heard sort of a grumbling groan and then a very vivid
curse. "Hmmm" she said "I do believe she's awake."

**How is her dragon?** N'vanik asked his bronze.

After a pause, Loseth said. }:The healers have numbed her pain. She
will recover. She's very worried about her rider.:{

Tavia still bent over the injured rider actually got some coherent
whispers. "Talk to Bereth dear, you need to reassure her that we're
taking care of you. Once you've done that we'll give you some more
fellis so you can sleep." she turned to the Weyrleader. "She's coming
out of the shock.I think she's taken a turn for the better." she
smiled a sad sort of smile. These cases were hard on the riders and
healers both.

"Well shells, that's good news," he said quietly. To Marellic, he
asked, "Is there anyone you want to see? A Weyrmate? Family?"

The woman muttered something, but he couldn't make it out.

"Kellin or Kemin or something like that, I don't recognize the name."
she said a little puzzled as she looked up. "She's still a little
shocky but she's coming out of it."

It would be easier if they could get the information from her green,
but Bereth was too upset to help them find the person her rider was
asking for. "We'll find them," N'vanik told Marellic. He looked up at
Tavia. "I'll go track him -- or her -- down."

"Thank you!" she said with a little surprise and a lot of
appreciation. Her respect for the Weyrleader just took a big step up.
"I know she'll appreciate it.
