Characters: Im're, J'nne
Description: Im're meets Jayonne over lunch
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 11, day 3 of Turn 5

Rope drills were fun but tiring, Im're thought when the day's practices were over. Gormth returned to his ledge to rest while Im're headed to get a bite to eat. They had a weyr now, their very own. No more weyrling
barracks. The weyr was small and had no private bath, but the view was
nice and most important, it was theirs.

Im're took his place in the food line and realized he should taken bath
first. He stank, of firestone and sweat. Well, most weyr people were
used to it. Besides, he was growing lad and so hungry he could eat a
dragon.

**There's a pretty blue** Jayonne thought, watching Gormth
flying up to the weyr. He glanced over to watch the copper haired boy
watching the same blue. Shifting his fiddle case from one hand to the
other, he walked over to the boy, smiling. It was always pleasant
meeting new people.

"Hi there," Im're greeted, noticing him.

"He's a lovely fellow," the tall lad said, nodding to Gormth. "So were you one of the Candidates constripted into Standing?" he teased, his hazel eyes dancing.

"Yes, he is. And I'm one of the candidates previous Weyrwoman
begged and borrowed from other Weyrs," Im're replied. He eyed the other
one. Tall, dark, not bad looking. "You're a harper?" Im're guessed,
looking the worn fiddle case.

Jayonne followed the weyrling's eyes. "Yeah, I fiddle a bit. Nothing too
extraordinary, mind you. But where are my manner's? I'm Jayonne." He
held out his hand in friendship.

"I'm Im're. I about go to eat, want to join me?" Im're shook the hand and
asked almost shyly. There was still a raw spot in his heart where
Maret's been.

"Why not?" Draonriders always had interresting stories to tell. He indicated with a nod of his head for Im're to lead the way."

"Are you Standing? " Im're asked when they walked towards the dining cavern.

"Me? No, not anytime soon. Mind you, I've Stood in the past. But this
girl keeps getting in my way." he grinned, holding up his fiddle case.
"She's a jealous type." Sitting down and putting his light meal in front of him he added, "I'm close to becoming a Journeyman now."

Im're's plate was heaped full of food. He was growing boy and
drills made him hungry. He compared his plate to his own and
wondered if he should be eating less. "How can instrument be jealous?" Im're had never understood why some people thought inanimate objects like people.

"Oh, in many ways," Jayonne answered, grinning. He leaned close to the
younger lad. "She even sleeps with me at nights." He gave his case an
affectionate pat. "She was my mum's, and her da before her's. And
shards knows who's before that."

"It's a piece of wood and strings," Im're said. He was starting to doubt his company's mental health.

"And what are we but flesh and bones?" He took a bite of his food and shook a stray curl off his forehead.

"I'm but a simple woodcrafter, don't give me a headache," Im're said, his tone joking.

Jayonne laughed before asking, "so tell me a bit about yourself. Like how did you come to have that blue beauty?"

Im're gave him short summary of his life: "Grew up woodcraft Hall,
got searched, Stood in Dragonsfall, fell in love, broke his heart,
transferred here and Impressed Gormth. That's pretty much my life in a
nut shell."

"So who was this 'fell in love, broke his heart'?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.

"A fellow candidate and woodcrafter in Dragonsfall," Im're said and drew circles in his plate with a piece of tuber.

Jayonne watched him for a moment before turning back to his lunch. He seemed to have touched on a nerve, so it was better to let it lay. To change the subject, he asked, "so what's it like being a Weyrling? You looking forward to fighting Thread?"

"It's kind of fun and hard work at the same time. Interesting. No, I don't
really look forward Thread. It's scary," Im're replied and admitted.

"How soon until your first flight in Threadfall?" he asked, smiling.

"Not sure exactly, but not long. Month or so left," Im're replied.

Jayonne whistled and shook his head. "Good luck with that one, mate."
Glancing outside and seeing his violin master looking about, no doubt
for him, he added, "I need to go, but it was a pleasure meeting you,
Im're. Are you around tonight? I'm going to be playing some new tunes
we just got in from the Harper Hall, with my teacher."

"I will be now," Im're promised. He seemed like an interesting fellow and he really didn't have too may friends in this Weyr.
