Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 10, day 3 of Turn 5
Notes: Part 2 of 2
Mentioned: K'mai.
Sabonus left the dinning cavern and tried to take a brisk walk around
the feeding pen to try to calm himself a bit before he met with her
again. In his mind he knew it wasn't her fault. And Faranth knew he
didn't blame her for any of it. And yet as much as his mind understood,
his heart still had trouble with the idea of passing her off into the
arms of another man, even for a Flight. How did all the others do it?
They made it look so easy.
He had kept a quick pace, so he had still made it back to her weyr just
moments before she turned down the stone corridor. "Feel better?"
"Better? No. Not hungry, yes," Uetia said with honesty.
"Well, that's something." This time he made himself reach out to her
and put his arms around her, pulling her closer into him. He knew her
well enough to know that this tension between them wasn't any easier on
her. "It hurts right now, but if this is the price I have to pay to be
with you, I can do it, Uetia. Don't you worry about that."
"I'm not awfully comfortable waking up next to a man I don't know,
myself. It makes me feel dirty," Uetia admitted, glad he was so tall she
could rest hear head against his shoulder.
"It ain't anybody's fault. Certainly not yours. You have to do what's
right by your lifemate." He rubbed her back, and said soothing words,
but he was trying to convince himself as much as her.
"So they all say. Easier said than done," she snorted.
"True." He pulled back slightly. "I think we better continue this
conversation inside." Sabonus didn't really want the whole Weyr witness
to their conversation.
Uetia nodded and pushed the door open. Sirjath wasn't alone in her
ledge. She was still curled up with her latest mate. The reminder made
her tense.
Sabonus didn't really even notice. He was much more concerned with the
human side of the story. "So... did you know him?" he asked as he
pulled her down to the sofa next to him, putting his arm along the back
behind her.
"No. He wasn't in my wing or in Torrent wing. I don't know many riders
outside those two wings," Uetia replied.
"Is it usually someone you don't know?" He wasn't sure if it would make
him feel better to know she was sleeping with several strangers or a
select few during the mating Flights.
Uetia shook her head. "Couple times Sirjath has picked out same blue in
a row," She said. Did he really wanted to hear it? Would it make him
jealous? Shell, she woud get jelous, if she heard that he was sleeping
with someone else.
"Do you... stay with their riders?" Perhaps it was a little masochistic
of him to ask. He didn't really want to hear about how much she enjoyed
waking up in the arms of another man, but once, just once, he wanted to
know it all. Knowing was better than just guessing.
"Not any longer," Uetia said, which of course implied that she had in
past.
He frowned slightly, wondering if something had happened to her. "Why
not?"
"Because of you." she touched his face gently. "I want to come back to
you as soon as I can." Her voice was soft and full of love.
He smiled slightly, leaning his forehead against hers. "And I'll always
be waiting for you." Sabonus would never have asked her to give up the
other men, but it warmed him to know that she did so willingly. "You
know, if I Impress, you're going to have to wait sometimes, too."
"Yes, I know. And have you ever given thought how survive the weyrling
ban without losing our minds?"
"It's going to be very hard keeping my hands off of you," he admitted as
his fingers began to wander.
"Yes, I can see that," she said playfully. She still have enough
dragonlust left in her blood to make her...eager.
"It almost makes me hope I don't Impress," he murmured, only half
jokingly, as he began inching her tunic higher.
